It has, indeed, begun a steam eruption. My local TV channel website has a video posted that I can't view at work, but HERE is a link to it. Kinda makes me glad to be back in California where earthquakes are our biggest threat.

Gandalph, it must be a big newsday, because I didn't see any reference to Mt. St. Helens on the front page of that website. I'm looking at Atrocities' link. I hate listening to talk radio at work, and then not being able to watch the news when I get home. That's what happened on 9-11. I hate to wait until that evening before I actually saw the devestation. Hopefully for you guys who live in the area, it won't be a big eruption. I don't think anything can match what happened in 1980, but then again, lightning has actually been known to strike the same place twice. So God speed and good luck.

I'm not too worried about Mt St. Helens, I for one, welcome our Giant Insect Overlords ...

It's coming right for us ...

Since so many people here seem to be constantly Online, you can watch for signs of eruption yourself at the government supplied webcam:

Whenever I look at that webcam page it just shows a dark purple screen that looks like a TV screen full of static. I just realized - DUH - that it's probably because I've always been going to that page at night. Maybe I should try during the day when there's actually some light... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I'm getting the same picture, but that's because there's a 3 hour time difference between Florida and Oregon. That means I still got to wait another hour or two before it gets light enough for me to see anything on the screen. Hope there's something to see.

Well, I've been checking since I came back from lunch. There's definitely something going on. But is the Big One coming anytime soon? From my understanding, this could take awhile.

Yeah, and that smoke is thinning out compared to what it was an hour ago.

Indeed I checked 30 minutes ago and the smoke was almost gone. BUT I also looked 2 minutes ago, and it's back again. (even more I guess)

Looks like there probably isn't going to be an eruption. The geologists have reduced the alert level now...
