Yes, let's resurect the great "Soda vs Pop vs Cola" debate.

I, living in Ohio call it pop as well. I have friends from various parts of the country who call it one or the other. After much research I have placed the dividing line, running roughly in a north-south direction, somewhere slightly west of Indianapolis Indiana.

Anybody care to chime in so we can narrow it down more specifically.

Actually, the 'dividing line' is a north-south more than an east-west line. The Great Lakes area has a distinct culture/language identity. So, people in Chicago would also call it 'pop' and people in Iowa would too. (Chicago seems to be the 'capital' of the Great Lakes culture, btw.) But people in Southern Illinois and Missouri would tend to say 'soda'. The line does move north somewhat as it goes west so you might get the impression that it 'ends' west of Indiana. There is a similar difference over things like 'grocery bag' vs. 'grocery sack' and 'foil' vs. 'silver paper' (yeah, weird one, huh?) and several other regionalisms. Anyway, the Great Lakes/Midwest cultural region is roughly the northern tier of states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, the western end of Pennsylvania, and the northern half of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Roughly the northern 'half' that is. It's not like you can cross a marked border anywhere. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif But people from northern Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois can tell the difference with people from the southern half of these states. I think people from Southern Ohio have a noticable "Southern accent" myself.

donno, but that advertising campaign sure ruined that 'right now' song for me. cant hear it on the classic rock station without instantly picturing the pepsi commercials once the first bar is played.

THAT was good marketing, regardless of what you think about the product. another good ad line was the Be All You Can Be, and I have to say that I am truely upset by this "Army of One" nonesense.

Pop is something Richie Cunningham offers Arthur Fonzarelli at Arnold's.

Much has changed since then, you guys may want to stop slicking your hair with Grease.

What happens when that army of one guy retires? Do we not have an army then?

I dont think you do (divide, that is). you will find them both in the same place. for example, anywhere where there is PIB there is usually the Dr. San Diego has no PIB but certain fast food places in the Bay Area do.. San Antonio yes, North Austin no, South Austin yes. its sort of like a safeway (or insert your local grocery store here) brand.

Pop is what you do to the top of a soda bottle so you can drink it.

Army of one... You know what that means, They are just going to have one dude with a nuke strapped into his radio, air drop him behind enemy lines, and when he radios for help, BOOM!

One army of 5000 gone at one man's stupidity.

If the army wanted a new slogan, they should go to war movies and epic films like Patton, Gladiator, Star Trek II, Pirates of Silicon Valley, and such.

What we need here in america is a good, fun, head bashing. We got some enemies left over that the cold war didn't kill. Let's get one of them.

Hey, there's nothing like a war effort to revive a sluggish economy. That and it would give the TV networks something to talk about besides Jenna Bush. (Jeez, leave the girl alone! What college kid doesn't take a drink before reaching twenty-one? Granted, most don't try to order a margarita using a fake ID with the Secret Service just a few feet away....)

I want to know what happened to Jolt! Twice the sugar and four times the caffeine as Mountain Dew, or something ungodly like that. Man, it makes my heart race just thinking about it....

Ponder this: Scientists already knew that matter is 98% empty space. After they figured out the structure of protons, they determined the remaining 2% is mostly made up of... well, nothing. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor?
