I may have not tried many but in my opinion it is one of the best maps available now. I usually add some minor balance fixes and starting locations. All this will be listed when I post the ".map" file here.

289 provinces for 12 people is probably too sparse.

As much as I would love an open map for my nation, I feel like almost 25 per player is too much. Unfortunately I can't suggest any other map options save maybe orania.

I think we'll just wait for 3 more people and that's it. Hopefully it won't be too long.
The problem is that I don't want to play without predefined starts because it is always unbalanced and too random and I don't know any other map as well as Alexander to make starting locs balanced. That's why I tend to choose this map
