Maybe I should edit my statement to say real stellar manip--stuff messing with stars. I know I've seen BHs created and destroyed on day 30, when the manip ship had only started 1-2 sectors away. It was a regular star destroyer, not a black hole creator (Those have to be placed over the sun, right ?). I sent some ships after it (speed 9, 4 sectors away), so they would have got it if it is on day 30. Don't know the speed of the star destroyer though. It was a battleship and Preacher had the technology to build those at speed 11. Most of the ships that got away from warppoint had speed 10 (Dreads).

The mystery is how it's calculated. I don't think anyone's come up with a convincing formula (or if they have, I haven't seen it posted here).
