Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
I will add just a few more. I am probably in the running for points leader...
the empty colonizer (hey, who hasn't) the introduction to the Allegiance Subverter. "Hey, he took my ship!!!!" In my first or second game, I didn't really know what psychic racial traits could do. the engineless ship the wrong colonizer type sent the overproduction causing ship abandonment the Resource Converter planet left on "repeat orders" to convert organics to minerals causing a huge drain on organics. Did not determine cause until I had overcompensated by building mucho farms. the mothballed fleet using a spaceyard ship. mothballed the spaceyard ship too. Unable to mothball without sending another spaceyard ship over there. Didn't make it there before the fleet got waxxed by a single ship. the building of a research computer complex on an intelligence planet. the wild goose chase by attacking the first ship in the enemy fleet. he ran with that ship and took my chasing fleet with it while the rest of his fleet raped and plundered. the emergency supply pod on a ship with no supply storage. the engine retrofit at a spaceyard with no resupply depot = no supplies. As the Chinese say..."Supplies!" (get it?) the unguarded warp opener (which took forever to build) getting waxxed by an incoming enemy fleet after opening its first warp point. oh, the memories... Slick. |

Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
tbontob consoles a sobbing Slick.
"I have done those too!" he says. "All of them?" askes Slick. "Well no, not all of them." Slick breaks out in a fresh outbreak of sobbing. "But give me time. Give me time!" exclaims tbontob. =============================================== Slick I admire your openness and your ability to remember your mistakes. About half of the ones you listed, I haven't made...yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif If you had asked me to remember the mistakes I did make, I wouldn't have been able to remember half of the ones you listed. |
Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
...I am NOT going to admit to how many of THOSE I've done...
But you did miss my favorite memory... the old stealth armor added to the satellite stack trick. What? Some newbies don't know this one? 1)Take an aggressive AI. (In my case the Rage) 2)Defend the system WP with satellites. 3)research armor and get new stealth armor. 4)decide to add stealth armor to the satellites for the bonus 5)watch in HORROR as 50+ ship Rage fleet sails into system through now cloaked Satellite stack Lost my second best system in that game! |
Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
Hey, I am secure enough to be able to laugh at myself when I do something dumb.
You want to really hear a dumb one? Minelayer orders: (ship was initially carrying mines) Load mines at planet X Launch mines at warp Y repeat Many turns later, I realized that planet X was not the planet making mines. Top that one, bozos. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Slick. [ April 25, 2003, 02:17: Message edited by: Slick ] |
Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
...Well there was the time I created those Psychic Pirates for P&N Mod. The idea was to add Alliegance Subverters to the Pirate arsenal...
Good idea but wrong Mod, Alliegence Subverters are NOT allowed to Pirates - I should have read the Pirate handbook I guess... |
Re: Worst "oops" moments in PBW?
How about sending a fleet to wipe out a system and having a star destroyer going in and destroying the star just as your fleet arrives? BOOM *Cheers* *report comes in* *stunned silence* *sob*
Note: Fleet of 200 baseships. Though that wasn't PBW... [ April 25, 2003, 03:12: Message edited by: Cyrien ] |

Back to shipyard, dump mines cause planet could not carry them all, retro to NEW BETTER design and start again, only to have fleet come through unprotected wp and glass the freshly retro'ed mine layer. |
