Re: Online D&D Gaming
You can always run your own server. Create a shortcut such as this, replacing parts in brackets with appropriate info (making sure to have no brackets in the actual shortcut):
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;"> C:\Program Files\OpenRPG\start_server.py -n [server name] -l [password] -p </pre><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Alkazhar would be easiest for server name, to keep consistency, though such is not necessary. This will allow you to simply run this shortcut and launch a configured server automatically. You will need to open port 6774 in your firewall, if you have one, before anyone will be able to connect to the server. [ July 20, 2004, 04:11: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I'll be there
Edit: I'll want some of those arrows. Maybe a potion and a bow. I don't understand some of it. What is meant by items found of good quality?. Do we get the bag or is it just to hold pieces?. [ July 20, 2004, 10:41: Message edited by: Randallw ] |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Well Draknor was able to finish the map translations in between drinking binges. You can see the latest document here: Minotaur Lair Description

Re: Online D&D Gaming
oh right, I see now. I didn't make the connection that he would buy from us instead of the other way around.

Didnt realize I didnt specificly state:
I'll be there - Arent we up to 4 there and 2 missing now? Rasorow |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Unfortunately I don't have a server or access to one this week so I will have to piggy back off of another and post the location information.
"The of good quality" statement refers to Thom being able to purchase from the party any weapons or equipment they might find for face value. As in if you kill three orcs and keep their short swords you can receive "fair value" for them if they are not rusted or of poor quality. Thom will act as a pawn shop to sell the items to others. |

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Great side adventure Last night.
It was quick and to the point. The small group of 4 were able to locate Gruff, the half-orc barbarian as well as defeat a small tribe of 5 goblins. I will post more information about Gruff and his knowledge of the minotaur lair. I will also get the experience posted for the battle (probably not more than a couple hundred exp). Did anyone save the game log? |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
EXP has been calculated and awarded as follows:
La'Nial, Wulf & Rasorow = 275 exp each Draknor = 303 exp Total Party EXP Draknor = 303 Khahadin Nineteeth = 0 Lae'nial = 275 Manny Ashall = 550 Sulimo Mandrallorn = 550 Wulf Shieldbearer = 825 Rasorow = 275 I will postpone tomorrow's session due to items I need to finish at home. I think it may be best to keep it to a once a week session, since it has been very hard for me to create a second day each week. So far Tuesday's may be best but I can let the group decide. Also any volunteers for DM'ing after this Mintoaur Lair? We can swap after each major adventure. Food for thought. [ July 22, 2004, 01:28: Message edited by: Cyclop ] |

Once a week is fine with me
Rasorow |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
That's good, cause I tottally forgot because my allergy's are bothering me a lot and my nose is running like a faucet and I took two prescription meds and I'm really tired like I got hit in the head.

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Next session set for Wednesday the 28th?
Let me know if you can make it. |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Probably. There clearing up.
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I'm usually free but understand that others may be busy, so I can accept once a week. I was planning on eventually announcing that I wanted to DM. I'm still getting familiar with the new rules though, and dusting off all my old maps and stuff from college.

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Wednesday is fine with me,
LOL Randallw, it would be a little longer for me and all my stuff is frist ed rules... If there is a need sometime I can fillin a session or two with some interesting dungeon crawls (After all it is DUNGEONS and Dragons :-) but prefer to play and would not run a campaign. Rasorow (It truly would not take much to convert my dungeons to 3rd or 3.5ed rules) |

wednesdays are good for me.

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Excellent, it looks like we will have at least 5 people for Wednesday. The usual 9pm EST start time. Maybe someone can post the information they obtained from Grull (half orc barbarian) so the other members can see.

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Hmmm <Rasorow looks up from from chopping wood>
Grull is a pleasant enough Half-Orc I guess. Darn good in the wild, he blended right in with the trees. He has been trying to clear out the Orcs and other filth from the pass but is badly out numbered. He's not afraid of the minotaur either.. Dont know what that says about either his ability or his foolishness. He's willing to help us against the Minotaur, he tried to take the Minotaur himself once but got caught by the guards and barely got away... Dont remember what else he might of said. Been awhile. Well, I gotta get this wood cut or we wont have a fire to cook dinner over tonight. Rasorow |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Er, can I join? If so, what are the details?(Method of communication, D&D Version, house rules, ect.)
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Check out the SE4 D&D Players web site. We already have a rather large party. We are using 3.0/3.5 (mostly 3.0, but a few players only have 3.5 books).
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Sorry I didn't show. I totally forgot. I'm really kinda fuzzy here with these prescription allergy meds, so I'm not that coherent.
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Remember everyone that our game is tonight, in about 14 hours from this post.

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Hey guys I spent the whole day in bed trying to get better from a cold/flu I just got. I was hoping to getting better by this evening but I actually feel worse and very tired.
Sorry to postpone and let everyone down but I don't think I can stay up late tonight. Can we try for tomorrow? |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
do we have a choice? you are the DM after all... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Hope you're feeling better soon. |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Just wondering if we are on for tonight....
Rasorow |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I spent the entire day in bed, feeling weak from the flu. I doubt I will have the energy to stay up past 10pm, especially since I need my Nyquil to sleep.
Lets set a firm date on Tuesday for the next meet. Fyron will you be available with your server to host the session? Many appologies, I don't get sick much but when I do it hits me hard. |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I will be available on Tuesday.
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I think I will.
*Chuga, Chuga, Choo Choo* |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I'm generally always available. Today I actually slept in and was 1/2 an hour late. Kind of a relief to find I didn't miss anything.
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Tuesday is good.
Anytime other then the weekend and Monday night is good. IC: "Where's that dwarf? He talked to Grull and can better tell you what he said." OC Translation: "Did I miss anything important with what he said?" Rasorow |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I came across this site today. Had found it previously but had to search again so I could bookmark it.
http://www.svgames.com You can download old edition books for a few dollars each. The Rules are old but more importantly lots of background info and ideas. You could download some of the books for nothing though at the Wizards site. Edit: just checked ebay. until a few days ago I had never been there (except maybe once for a few minutes a few years ago). I am surprised a search of "D&D 3.5" only had 2 pages. You say you picked up Unearthed Arcana. I know it has optional rules. I am interested in the rules for sanity. [ August 02, 2004, 13:34: Message edited by: Randallw ] |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
I will search the book when I get home for the Sanity Rules and scan the page for you to read. Are you going to apply those rules to your character or just check your own "sanity" to see if your "sane"?
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
There are sites where you can download the new books for a few dollars each as well. The quality of the scans from some of these sites tends to be very poor... too bad they never show you a screenshot. :-\

Re: Online D&D Gaming
I cannot make Tuesday as my Internet is down and repair truck wont roll until Wednesday.... Sorry. Currently Posting from work....

Re: Online D&D Gaming
Rasorow, would you like me to play your character as an NPC if we have at least 4 players? If so, keep in mind that I tend to play NPC's aggressively in combat situations.
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Greetings fellow adventurers,
I will be in the OpenRPG / Alkazhar server with a SEIV D&D room open tomorrow evening (9pm EST) Password: ace. I purchased a few more 3.5 books Last week (Fiend Folio, Unearthed Arcana and Warriors handbook) at Ebay, all new for under $20 each. If anyone wants the vendor info let me know. But after the minotaur lair adventure if you are having fun and want to continue I would suggest an investment in at least the Player's Handbook (3.0 or 3.5). All is going better as I have just a caugh from my flu Last week. The better news is my daughter got sick and is almost over it as well so this week should be "sick free" (cross fingers). I'm looking forward to tomorrow's quest and I hope to keep chatter to a minimum and combat/ encounters at a peak. See you there! |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Hey Wulf, I really like the sanity rules in the Unearthed Arcana. I must have overlooked them after all these years. Being a huge HP Lovecraft-Cuthulu fan I may be adding this stat to our adventure tomorrow, especially since I already placed some sanity check points along the way http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Online D&D Gaming
One of the things I've been wondering about with call of cthu-cthu-cthublah is, what if your character was completely insane, but functional?
|
Re: Online D&D Gaming

Re: Online D&D Gaming
The rules in the Unearthed Arcana can be quickly summarized as:
Sanity points = Wisdom x 5 Sanity checks are made using percentile against Sanity Score. If you roll below your sanity you could even lose a couple points automatically, or if you miss, a large amount of points could be deducted (1d4, 1d6, etc). Insanity can occur if a large amounts of sanity checks fail over a short span of time (1-2 hours of game time). In this current adventure, I can guess that some may lose a few points of sanity and a couple could get into the double digits in loss. Keep in mind that the scenes have to be gruesome, unusual, evil, and "mystical" for any of the characters to hit their sanity level. I.E. an elf who hates orcs may not think a beheaded orc is gruesome. However a fallen comrade who gets his limbs ripped off by an ogre could be another story ... What this could do is help the over all campaign as your sanity can go up as you gain levels and during tranqual times. And it can go down depending upon the adventure routes the group takes. I tend to like horror and gruesome details so we can give it a try and see what the group feels. Insanity doesn't mean a character is unfunctional, they just may have some "quirks" with demons spawning henchman out of crypts, etc. |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Not that I dont trust you but I havnt established Rasorow enough to turn him over.
Lets just say that he heard of a sacred grove nearby and felt a calling.... Since he will be adding a cleric level probably next level it would be appropriate... |
Re: Online D&D Gaming
Why are we suddenly dealing with sanity??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
