Re: Online D&D Gaming

You can always run your own server. Create a shortcut such as this, replacing parts in brackets with appropriate info (making sure to have no brackets in the actual shortcut):

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;"> C:\Program Files\OpenRPG\start_server.py -n [server name] -l [password] -p </pre><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Alkazhar would be easiest for server name, to keep consistency, though such is not necessary.

This will allow you to simply run this shortcut and launch a configured server automatically. You will need to open port 6774 in your firewall, if you have one, before anyone will be able to connect to the server.

I'll be there

Edit: I'll want some of those arrows. Maybe a potion and a bow. I don't understand some of it. What is meant by items found of good quality?. Do we get the bag or is it just to hold pieces?.

Unfortunately I don't have a server or access to one this week so I will have to piggy back off of another and post the location information.

"The of good quality" statement refers to Thom being able to purchase from the party any weapons or equipment they might find for face value. As in if you kill three orcs and keep their short swords you can receive "fair value" for them if they are not rusted or of poor quality. Thom will act as a pawn shop to sell the items to others.

Great side adventure Last night.
It was quick and to the point.
The small group of 4 were able to locate Gruff, the half-orc barbarian as well as defeat a small tribe of 5 goblins.
I will post more information about Gruff and his knowledge of the minotaur lair. I will also get the experience posted for the battle (probably not more than a couple hundred exp).
Did anyone save the game log?

Cyclop July 22nd, 2004 02:27 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

EXP has been calculated and awarded as follows:
La'Nial, Wulf & Rasorow = 275 exp each
Draknor = 303 exp

Total Party EXP
Draknor = 303
Khahadin Nineteeth = 0
Lae'nial = 275
Manny Ashall = 550
Sulimo Mandrallorn = 550
Wulf Shieldbearer = 825
Rasorow = 275

I will postpone tomorrow's session due to items I need to finish at home. I think it may be best to keep it to a once a week session, since it has been very hard for me to create a second day each week. So far Tuesday's may be best but I can let the group decide.
Also any volunteers for DM'ing after this Mintoaur Lair? We can swap after each major adventure. Food for thought.

LOL Randallw, it would be a little longer for me and all my stuff is frist ed rules...

If there is a need sometime I can fillin a session or two with some interesting dungeon crawls (After all it is DUNGEONS and Dragons :-) but prefer to play and would not run a campaign.

Hmmm <Rasorow looks up from from chopping wood>

Grull is a pleasant enough Half-Orc I guess. Darn good in the wild, he blended right in with the trees.

He has been trying to clear out the Orcs and other filth from the pass but is badly out numbered. He's not afraid of the minotaur either.. Dont know what that says about either his ability or his foolishness.

He's willing to help us against the Minotaur, he tried to take the Minotaur himself once but got caught by the guards and barely got away... Dont remember what else he might of said. Been awhile.

Well, I gotta get this wood cut or we wont have a fire to cook dinner over tonight.

I came across this site today. Had found it previously but had to search again so I could bookmark it.

http://www.svgames.com

You can download old edition books for a few dollars each. The Rules are old but more importantly lots of background info and ideas. You could download some of the books for nothing though at the Wizards site.

Edit: just checked ebay. until a few days ago I had never been there (except maybe once for a few minutes a few years ago). I am surprised a search of "D&D 3.5" only had 2 pages. You say you picked up Unearthed Arcana. I know it has optional rules. I am interested in the rules for sanity.

There are sites where you can download the new books for a few dollars each as well. The quality of the scans from some of these sites tends to be very poor... too bad they never show you a screenshot. :-\

Rasorow, would you like me to play your character as an NPC if we have at least 4 players? If so, keep in mind that I tend to play NPC's aggressively in combat situations.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Greetings fellow adventurers,

I will be in the OpenRPG / Alkazhar server with a SEIV D&D room open tomorrow evening (9pm EST) Password: ace.

I purchased a few more 3.5 books Last week (Fiend Folio, Unearthed Arcana and Warriors handbook) at Ebay, all new for under $20 each. If anyone wants the vendor info let me know. But after the minotaur lair adventure if you are having fun and want to continue I would suggest an investment in at least the Player's Handbook (3.0 or 3.5).

All is going better as I have just a caugh from my flu Last week. The better news is my daughter got sick and is almost over it as well so this week should be "sick free" (cross fingers).

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's quest and I hope to keep chatter to a minimum and combat/ encounters at a peak. See you there!

Hey Wulf, I really like the sanity rules in the Unearthed Arcana. I must have overlooked them after all these years. Being a huge HP Lovecraft-Cuthulu fan I may be adding this stat to our adventure tomorrow, especially since I already placed some sanity check points along the way http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I don't need to check my sanity I already know I'm insane. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif (Though my mother prefers "He's just eccentric"), rather I think it would make games more realistic (This in a fantasy game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif ). Sure fear or terror can cover horror, but I saw "The Relic" the other day and theres that other movie with the passenger liner attacked by the deep sea monster. It seems to me facing those things will seriously test your sanity
"Dude, thats seriously freaked out right there"
or as they say in "Advertising men"
"This movie will f*** you up for life"

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I can't remember Cthulhu much but I saw an account recently saying every time you face a horror you make a sanity check, fail that and its off to the asylum and bye bye character. The same account had someone wanting to attack Cthulhu. It was pointed out that it was Cthulhu, he doesn't even have a hit point score. I havn't read much of the books. I believe I tried once and found it boring, but I love the catchphrases such as "That which man was not meant to know".

Cyclop August 3rd, 2004 04:27 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

The rules in the Unearthed Arcana can be quickly summarized as:
Sanity points = Wisdom x 5
Sanity checks are made using percentile against Sanity Score. If you roll below your sanity you could even lose a couple points automatically, or if you miss, a large amount of points could be deducted (1d4, 1d6, etc). Insanity can occur if a large amounts of sanity checks fail over a short span of time (1-2 hours of game time).

In this current adventure, I can guess that some may lose a few points of sanity and a couple could get into the double digits in loss. Keep in mind that the scenes have to be gruesome, unusual, evil, and "mystical" for any of the characters to hit their sanity level. I.E. an elf who hates orcs may not think a beheaded orc is gruesome. However a fallen comrade who gets his limbs ripped off by an ogre could be another story ...

What this could do is help the over all campaign as your sanity can go up as you gain levels and during tranqual times. And it can go down depending upon the adventure routes the group takes.

I tend to like horror and gruesome details so we can give it a try and see what the group feels. Insanity doesn't mean a character is unfunctional, they just may have some "quirks" with demons spawning henchman out of crypts, etc.
