Heres what I mean by bad timming. Lets say I come home from school at 2:00 on monday. I take my turn(and asumming I was the last) the game hosts. I check before I go to bed at lets say 10:00, if the game has hosted again, I take my turn, if not I check again tomorrow. But on tuesdays I get home at 2:50. So it has already been 24 hours.

Well it turns out I have been turned to AI. So I guess I am already the first to lose in my 2nd/3rd mp game.

Golly gee. I guess there just wasn't any way for you to ... spend 5 minutes doing the next turn right after you took your turn and it hosted? It's not like the early game requires any huge amount of time or work.

Then you would have had 48 hours to spare before you needed to get the next turn in, and the game would've hosted as soon as all the others did their turns, instead of everyone having to wait for you yet again.

Even if you caused it to host at 2, you say you checked at 10. Any reason you couldn't, didn't, take your turn then?

And incidentally, if you took your turn at 2 and the game hosts - why check again at 10 to see if it's hosted. It ain't gonna host until after you do your next turn and upload it, or until you staled again.

Okay, I made a fool of myself there, that was badly phrased and it was an example, not what I actuly did, because that would have been retarted. All I know is that several times, I got my turn in close, or missed it. In the first couple turns

I had thought we were on 48, only too be told we are were on 24, and only now to be told we were on 48.

Cainhill, besides missing 6 turns, I do not see what I did no enflame you so much. I think, as a new player, in my first, along with the fareun game, there would be some considiration. Instead all I get is you being sarcastic, and being kicked out of the game with out being given a chance to reform.

Cainhill, you have made this game, my first IP game, a very unenjoyable expeirience for me.

Cainhill, I hope, that when you play with future beginners, you are more considerite of them.

Cainhill, I hope that from this game, you learn, as I have and will.

Ah, the : "* 25 Hour QH : Will be slowed down to 49 hour or some such as the game progresses and people want it." in the original post led you to believe it was 48 hour hosting. I see. And of course, it displaying "24 hours until next hosting" each time you were the last person to do your turn would also have made it seem like it was a 48 hour game.

All the posts, including your own, from about the 7th of June saying "24 hour", ditto.

Most significantly, you were given chances to reform. On the 13th, I posted about you being the only person the game was waiting on, and you staled. On the 14th, same thing. On the 15th, you said "Oops, I didn't know the game was on 24 hour hosting." On the 18th you staled again, and I believe you staled between the 15th and 18th at least once.

So on the 19th I posted that I was asking Ironhawk to set you to AI because of repeated, ongoing, post-discussion staling. You then posted that you didn't appreciate it, but never did you say "damn, sorry, I'll do better in the future". Instead you posted excuses, and examples that I demonstrated to be invalid.

Now, it's a shame you found the game, or rather the experience, unenjoyable. It's also a shame that you kept ignoring your obligation to the other players. And it'll be a shame if you don't learn from this experience, and start accepting that it's largely your own responsibility that you got booted, just as you'd be booted if you got into a game of Risk or Monopoly and wanted to wander away and not take your turns promptly, thus holding the game up for the other players.

RibbonBlue June 20th, 2005 08:50 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

So I staled the:
13th
14th
15th
and some time "between 15 and the 18th", which I am pretty sure I did not stale, and I Know at least once of those times I made it in 49mintues before hosting, so it may have looked like I staled.

I thought you said you booted me for missing 6 turns, which now look like 3 or 4.

Also, I accepted that you where booting me, though I did say I was upset, as I am sure most new players would be. The reason I posted why I missed the turns, was not as an excuse, but because Pasha Asked:

Why do you keep missing turns, Ribbonblue? If we actually switch to 48h quickhost, would you be able to take your turns?

I agree with you Cainhill, it would be a shame if I did not learn from this expeireince. Which I have.

Cainhill, not every one understands this game, and the workings of it as well as you do, especialy new players. Not every one is as smart as you. You treated me in these posts in such a demeaning way, I cried twice, each time I read what you have written. You have a mean and sarcastic edge to your writting, or maybe its just me

All I know is that reading your posts hurt me, that may or may not have been your objective, but it did, and someday, I hope you remedy this or learn to treat people with more consideration.

No, your staling was posted about on those dates - you had already staled in the first three turns, and I tend to post about staling on occasions when I had been connected and observing who, if anyone, staled.

Between this twisting of the facts and the bit about crying twice, I'm getting the impression of a precocious child who has had too much success emotionally manipulating her parents and other adults. Don't worry - you've no doubt got a legion of sympathetic folks now who have been reminded that I'm a monster.

If I'm mistaken, my apologies for having been so callous as to communicate with you as though you were a mature human being, capable of being responsible for their words and actions.

And that, folks, is the last I have to say in response. I do believe there is an ignore functionality on these forums; I'll look to use it, and hope that those others who find me too cold and sarcastic will use it as well.

When is it intended to turn the game back to 24h? Or are we going to be sticking with 48h from now on? Seems to me the turns aren't very burdensome yet, and I start losing enthusiasm when its a couple days between turns...

I believe/hope it will change back today or tomorrow. It was only asked to be 48h for a week. And that was 6/19. So hopefully tomorrow it will go back to 24h.

Heh! No doubt - I'll tell you, I was nervous / excited waiting to see the turn's results. I thought I would win, which meant the utter annihilation of your one army, but.... I revised the orders about 10 times, and am glad I did - every little spell contributed to the victory at the capitol. (The meteor falling from the sky to cut off your retreat I had every confidence in.)

It'll teach you to casually invade the peaceloving (but berserk) Jotuns. We coulda been friends!!!

And of course, if I hadn't had success, it was essentially game over for Jotunheim. Instead now Abysia's future is in doubt - that was quite the expensive invasion for you, and you're doomed! Doomed! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

New turn.

AND... out of nowhere I get attacked by Catquiet! Here I am, my little Machaka army is strolling along through the countryside, checking out the sights and smells, and out of nowhere this vampire http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif (dressed as a queen, which I don't think she is, though she may think so) attacks. And eats all my people! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

[Injured scout gets off note to his God before succumbing to the pain... "Avoid the south, it sucks to get eaten!"]

Machaka is currently in a period of mourning (the mighty prophet, who was striving to reach the coveted Hall of Fame), fell during the malicious and unprovoked attack.

Well, I hope the border has been established. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Yes, the Cult of the Vampire Queen persists, old, moldy, and passe as it is. At least she makes sense for only a few themes under the mods we're using, although Carrion Woods is unfortunately one of them... where are those wooden stakes when you need them?

Not that I can claim any special originality in pretender design - although I didn't bother to make another choice after this became a modded game - I just nerfed my GK design a bit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Shmonk June 26th, 2005 12:50 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

I guess from a newbie perspective, I read alot on these forums that the majority of the pretender designs were VQ or GK (at least before the Zen mods). And I guess since reading that, I never tried to use them. I figure if that's the "typical" pretender design, I wanted to try and learn on the "not so typical" pretender design, everything other than those 2. Of course, with not much luck yet.

Catquiet June 26th, 2005 01:40 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

The VQ isn't a very good pretender with or without the Zen mods. Illwinter raised the point cost and lowered the dominion on the VQ. However, I am trying something new (for me) with Pangaea and I needed a nasty SC to keep me alive while I test it out.

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

So - everyone okay with going back to 24 hour for the next 5 - 15 turns or so? If no one objects, I'll ask Ironhawk to set us back, until such point turns start requiring too heavy an investment of time for people.

Well - now that I've been inside your dominion, I suspect you've seen why I avoid the phoenix for a pretender myself. While going against independents it seems grand, but it just isn't robust enough when you start going against another player. Not enough health & not enough slots means it dies incredibly quick if you don't spend 3-5 turns doing self-buffs, and even if you do, it still dies quickly.

And I do thank you for the nice castle and laboratory. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think in the previous battle he killed enough of your units, I think all fiends and some others too. And if he had at least one eye in this battle I think it was possible to kill all your woodsmen with fire. But something went really wrong this time because devils were meant to attack your Pretender (attack large monsters) and imps decided to attack him when they were supposed to hold woodsmen. Anyway the war is not over yet.

Cainehill June 29th, 2005 10:41 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Don't feel bad - the fiends were set to target flying critters, and went after your foot soldiers. Actually I was somewhat impressed with your phoenix's aim, considering it had no eyes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

How's this : we've got 46 hours until the next turn now - I won't upload my turn until late Sunday night (near or post-midnight Portland time), which will give until late Tuesday night for everyone to get their turns in.

That work for everyone?

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Trap? Did I miss a trap? Darn!

Speaking of random events... okay, we weren't. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif But in another game I'm in I got a random event at my capital that I've never seen. I love finding these little "gems" in Dom2. Of course, I'm also upset. It seems a group of local heroes decided to "fight for the people" or some such nonsense and attacked my province. While they can't breach the walls, they are still causing me to deal with them. And they're decently equipped with magic items too, so I can't wait to beat them. Though one's a flyer (decently equipped SC it seems), one's a mage, and the other 2 are trolls or something. Definitely a nuisance I didn't want, but very cool to encounter stuff like this.

Dimaz July 7th, 2005 06:00 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

I knew that was a trap. But I decided to try. So now I surrender to the mighty Jotuns. On the other hand, now I can rest on weekends without thinking about Internet access and such things. Meet you all in September I hope http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Schmonk: be careful in "dealing" with those rampaging heroes, since they are none other than Bogus the Troll and company. They are powerful, and well-armed, with at least one unique artifact - a ring called Precious http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Shmonk July 7th, 2005 10:27 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Wow, after seeing them in 1 game, in the exact next turn I see them in another game - silly me saw an indy province with only 4 units and a Dark Knight. And I thought to myself "a Dark Knight, never seen one", and thought that looked like an easy province for Call of Winds. Big oops.

Yea, I was looking at the items, and saw the Precious ring. Hmmm... I hope my attack works, now I'm wishing I threw a few more troops at it (but I'm at work and have to wait now and hope).

Looking for a sub. Manuk, maybe, since you were out already??

There was a death in the family (my grandmother died), and I will be out of town for a week. While in this game I'm backed into a corner by Man, I've got some fight left (and it's a big corner, I think). If somebody is willing to take over, that would be great, and would give Man a challenge at least. Otherwise, it will be set to AI later this evening.
