Well, all, I'm off to a monastery in the middle of the Egyptian desert (no kidding), hence incommunicado. Hope Ironhawk can sort out my turns okay. It's perfectly okay with me if he or someone decides to AI me, or wants to just take over my game completely, seeing as how I'll be gone for a while. In any case, if I stale out I expect to be dead by the time I get back (literally, since I'm running a lowish-dominion pretender on a crowded map, a mistake I will not make again).

Heh. The parameters of this game strictly prevent me from taking control of this nation. I have passed on Tom's info to KissBlade who has agreed to play the turns.

Well, they should still spread Dominion (at least they are supposed to). Granted, it isn't *much*, but still.

I don't believe they have that effect when VP victory is turned off.

Re: The Winnowing (Noob Game) - open

Think they do - at least, even with VPs turned off, right clicking a temple reports some dominion being spread from the VPs.

Hi, I attempted to connect to the server but my network connection is completely screwed up. I would've reported this earlier but I literally got home just about 20 minutes ago. Sorry, I tried everything to figure out how to connect but I think it's my service.

Re: The Winnowing (Noob Game) - open

If you can connect here...shouldn't you be able to connect to the sever?

I would double check the IP and Port settings, unless you have messed around with your router/security settings. If you have check to see if the port 2002 is blocked, or if windows is locking out dominions from network traffic

Waiting on the big guys. Unfortunatley if the turn isn't posted soon, I won't be able to log on until tomorrow. I am going to a LAN today, and won't be back till late tonight. I won't re-setup my computer till tomorrow morning at the earliest. With the Superbowl, and the UFC fights, I am going to have a full sunday.

BTW If anyone is a fan of any combat sports, the best fight probably in UFC history is on tonight. Chuck vs Randy III. Chuck is going to murder randy, but thats beside the point, it should be a goodie.

Darn. I was hoping we'd get more than 2 turns in this weekend. But with the replacement for Jotu not being able to connect, it's going to be the full 24 hrs for each turn. Or so it seems.

3 minute and counting...

False cheat messages can occur

Alchemy could cause the cheater messageto be sent, at least a few patches back. Blood sacrifice could also cause false alarms. Cheating isn't exactly easy, either, so I doubt either of them actually did anything.

I don't know much more about the matter, but you can ask about it in the general forum. If you do, someone will without doubt mention the Norfleet incident, in which a well-known member of the community was proven to cheat. After that incident, I doubt anyone wanting to stay on these forums would risk being caught cheating. Losing this community is much worse than losing a game or two.

Shmonk February 4th, 2006 04:20 PM

Re: False cheat messages can occur

To clarify, everyone is using v2.16, correct?

archaeolept February 4th, 2006 04:35 PM

Re: False cheat messages can occur

to reiterate: blood sacrifice and alchemy can both cause false positive cheat messages. Random events also perhaps... basically, the cheat messages are usually wrong...

if people are really concerned, have some neutral third party w/ the master password check over the two nations in question for anything untoward.

nihilistic February 4th, 2006 05:50 PM

Re: False cheat messages can occur

I just logged in to play my turn. I have the following message:

An unexpected event has occured in Ulipha. The tax collection went unexpectedly well. This resulted in an extra 100 gold to your treasury.

Last turn I also alchemized some fire gems to gold. I am using the Conceptual Balance mod v5.2 and run Dominions v2.16 (on a Linux machine).

I don't know if it has anything to do with the cheating notice, but I am locally playing a single player game with the same pretender.

I have absolutely no reason to cheat. This is my first MP Dominions game ever and I just started to know all you guys. Why would I cheat and risk be banned from future games and this forum which I, clearly to everyone, am spending so much time lately on?

Edit: It goes without saying that I fully agree with someone auditing files, turns, etc.

shovah February 4th, 2006 06:17 PM

i think its the fact that more than 1 cheat message at the same time made everyone suspicious

castigated February 4th, 2006 06:29 PM

i am fully confident that neither of them cheated. nihilistic did alchemy, and i sent pangea gold. that coudl just be a coincidence, but i severely doubt it. just ignore the message.

Hey, does Jotun still need a replacement? I just figured out how to log on. Well actually Boron did. He staled one turn but the rest is probably salvageable.

Shmonk February 4th, 2006 08:09 PM

jotu replacement

I would think that you're still the replacement for Jotunheim, if you have the password still you should play his turn. Just so that he only has 1 stale (the last turn). And it should be salvagable once you play the next turn or two until he comes back.

Shmonk February 5th, 2006 10:04 PM

Re: jotu replacement

When I checked this morning, Vanheim was going to stale when this new turn hosted (at least when I checked and there was 5 minutes left, it showed Vanheim did not submit a turn). So I'm thinking you staled, but you got new provinces?? That's weird.

Or, you downloaded the last turn, played it, but didn't upload it before the new turn hosted, and that's why it said the .2h file was too old.

this game is kind of buggy.

anyway I want to remind all the freakin neighbors (mictlan, jotunhiem, ulm, and ermor) that wars between nations are very risky this early off, and my 1 province lead is not that significant, at this point in the game.

also, beware battles under my candle.

(basically I am feeling crouded)

in other words....GET HIM!!!

arg, another 2 cheat messages. is this gonna happen every time someone uses alchemy?

Shmonk February 6th, 2006 01:43 AM

Re: jotu replacement

In regards to "bugginess", I'm seeing something I've never had happen before in my previous SP or MP games. I'm recruiting units for a turn (say 6 units), with 3 or 4 resources left over unused. On the next turn, only 4 show up, and the other 2 are still in the queue. This has been happening the last few turns, where I KNOW I'm not recruting more units than I have resources for the turn, but for some reason 1 or 2 are not being recruited.

Is this a bug? Or maybe explainable in some way, even though I've not seen it before.
