Ygorl: Is it possible to delay next hosting for 12 hours? I have some orders that I haven't been able to send because the server has been down and I won't be able to try sending them again until tomorrow.

Ygorl August 18th, 2006 11:38 AM

Re: RAND2

No problem. The next hosting will be Saturday, at 10 AM EDT, then we'll return to our regular Tuesday-Friday schedule. And, the server is back up. Sorry to those it's inconvenienced...

So, who was playing Caelum? It wasn't me. Everyone who didn't play Caelum say http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Re: RAND2

Caelum was played by my son Tauren. The problem was, he got a 40-hour per week job in addition to his 40-hour per week school and therefore did not have time for Dominions. He staled the last 20+ turns in RAND2 and was therefore quickly eliminated. Before that, he was doing well and even had a chance at winning the game.

He has also been staling in COW (I think), but has not been eliminated there because of the council.

Ygorl August 22nd, 2006 08:39 PM

Re: RAND2

Ah, too bad.
I hope the job and school are going well...

Re: RAND2

So, with Dom3 looming large in the horizon: How about we call this quits once it ships? I'm not saying that I'm not having fun with this (nor am I saying I am having fun with this, to keep up with the cloak&dagger bit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif), but I wouldn't mind getting a clean slate to enjoy Dom3 with. (Not saying that this is a time sink or anything, mind you, nor that this isn't http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) What do folks think?

Ygorl September 8th, 2006 06:22 PM

Re: RAND2

I think I'll leave the server running until someone has the required VPs. Everyone is welcome to keep playing turns, or find replacements, or turn their nations AI, or let them sit unoccupied, as they wish. Of course, it's possible that someone will win properly before people get their hands on Dom3... In fact I hope so (in a hope purely abstracted from any aspirations that I may or may not harbor).

WraithLord September 9th, 2006 11:41 AM

Re: RAND2

I for one would like to continue this one until it's proper end. I think Ygorl's suggestion makes sense, so it has my vote.

Grizannor September 11th, 2006 06:11 AM

Re: RAND2

This game has been going on so long, that I'd really hate to see it end with people stopping playing and becoming AI's. I have really enjoyed this game, and it would totally suck, if the winner would be just that someone who kept playing after others stopped. That would somewhat ruin the whole game for me and all time spent to it. It wouldn't be a worthy ending at all. There are some big nations in the game and if one of them becomes AI, it will have a huge impact on the chances of winning to other nations. Some of the tiny nations probaly could go AI without too big effect on the game, but not the big ones.

To me there are only two choices that I can really accept:
1. We call the game, and everyone must agree on the winner.
2. At least all the big nations play it to end.

Of course if some people playing the big nations don't want to play to the end, I can't force them, but I'd really apreciate if they got someone else to continue the game for them if they stop playing.

Re: RAND2

The server was supposed to host the game recently, yet it didn't, instead my gods eye reports that the hosting was delayed by 72h.

Was that intentional?

Ygorl September 12th, 2006 11:30 AM

Re: RAND2

No, it wasn't intentional. I don't know what happened... I've reset it to host at 11am EDT.
I would force-host it now, but I think funny things happen sometimes when you do that with a TCP game (I remember trying to convert a game with a friend to PBEM, kept getting errors...)
Hopefully it hosts in half an hour. Of course, you can't log in to play your turn then, since everyone will know it's you. Or maybe you can, since now everyone will know it's not you. Circles within circles... My head hurts.

WraithLord September 12th, 2006 01:55 PM

Re: RAND2

Well, there's this way to pull the turn w/o it being visible. It seems like its actually working as god's eye reports that no nation has played yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Is there any chance we can have one of the hosts on Saturday? I'm subbing for someone and it is very convenient for me to get up early Saturday and do both turns that day. I don't care when the other host is.

Thank's!

Re: RAND2

It's back up. The cable company was fooling with stuff last night, and I lost the connection, and apparently some aspect of the server or the dyndns listing got messed up as a result. Play on!

Who was Ermor? I notice he's played by our good friend the AI.

I was Ermor. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif I never played Ermor before this game, didn't think I would do well. I was happy with my play, figured I'd let the AI take over now that I was almost out of it. Good luck to the rest, can't wait to hear out it turns out and who everybody was playing.

The game is over.

Congrats to Machaka http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have been playing Pangaea...
So who is the winner?

Voittaa! Voittaa! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I played Machaka. It was a great game, but still I'm glad it ended. Turns have been taken hours lately...

Big thanks to Ygorl for hosting!

And thanks also to my friend Animal for playing some of my turns while I was unable and not killing all of my armies http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Grizannor November 10th, 2006 01:03 PM

Re: RAND2

How many people did you WraithLord have running around my kingdom? Luckily it didn't matter anymore. What an annoying strategy. And apparently pretty good too, since you won jotunheim with it. At the beginning of your war, I thought that jotunheim would crush you quickly and then come after me.

Did you watch the battle one turn ago where my army fought your lone ice devil SC? Spellcasting AI topped itself on that one. Multiple casting of the same non cumulative battle enchantment and then spending last gems to useless swarms. And I loved the mass protection spell that took the fire resistance down from my legions of devils and everyone close to them in the midle of stray fireballs cast by my mages.

Ygorl November 10th, 2006 06:12 PM

Re: RAND2

I was R'lyeh... We've got ID from everyone except Jurri, Peacekeeper, and DaMilano (Jotunheim, Atlantis, and Man, if my memory serves - though not necessarily in that order, of course).

Thanks everyone for playing... It was fun!
I was trying so hard to be relevant... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Congratulations, Grizannor! Well done.

Jurri November 10th, 2006 07:08 PM

Re: RAND2

I was Man. Very well done indeed, Grizannor! Thanks all for the game, this was oodles of fun.

WraithLord November 10th, 2006 08:39 PM

Re: RAND2

@Grizannor, again congrats.
Did you see how many of your provinces I took in the last turn?- Apparently Pangaea can be very hard to stop even against stronger nations. Its a good thing we had VPs or this game might have gotten very long with the show down between us http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

About Jotumheim, when he attacked me he was, a- stronger the me, b- with higher income and gem income, c- much higher on the research tree. So I also thought he would make short work of me. It took me a few turns to get the knack for playing Pangaea right, and then its very hard to stop - At some point, I was literally all over him, with sneaking armies attacking him from all sides, so much so that he wasn't able to counter attack effectively. I think I could have faired even better vs. Jotun had I not been trying on and off the get him to understand we shouldn't be fighting each other, so basically I've tried a couple of time not to attack Jotun for a few turns in a row hopping he'd get the message, sadly he hasn't.
Another thing that worked against me was Man, he was stubbornly and smartly hurting me so I was basically fighting a two fronts war against one of which vs. a superior enemy.

@Ygorl, I was crossing fingers for you (and for Atlantis)

@Jurri, you have caused me a such a headache totaly w/o proportion to what you had the means to do. You just refused to lie down and die as aught to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I charmed your AQ, I took your provinces, I killed your pretender, I took your capitol, but you just refused to surrender. You give tenacity a new meaning http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
BTW, I still didn't get why you've attacked me in the first place. Given the power balance when you did it seems, well, strange.

Jurri November 10th, 2006 09:06 PM

Re: RAND2

Thanks, I strive to be the most tenacious bastard I can be http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif It pleased me to no end that your IDs and Earth Kings and whatnot were tied by just two indy priests and a jade sorceress for some turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (My fort was empty except for those.) But you certainly left me little chance to restore my position after I lost the AQ... Very aptly played!

It was you who attacked me, not the other way around! Admittedly I wasn't paying as much attention at that point as I should have since Ulm going AI and the AI then redirecting against me bummed me out for a bit, so it took a while for me to destroy the AI's second wind; but certainly you didn't expect that when you took the lands the Ulm AI took from Man you wouldn't face any repercussion? I even avoided attacking outside my previous holdings to give you the chance to yield them peacefully http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Ah, I just love the misunderstandings the no-diplo causes!

My own initial plans were crushed when Arcoscephale pulled a poison golem (Dom2-style: a golem with a snake bladder) just when I was about to take his capital... That was beautiful.

Re: RAND2

WraithLord: I guess I understood you better than Jotunheim, since I noticed that you were trying to make peace at the time I cast arcane nexus. Of course it might be, that Jotunheim just didn't want to have peace. I was a little worried that you would both come after me while I was still fighting R'lyeh and Ermor. That would have made my life hard.

Ygorl: You were such a pane in the glass. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif When I attacked you first, I thought that Atlantis would take care of your underwater provinces and I could have the rest for almost free. Then Atlantis lost the war against you and you started to come after me. I thought that that wouldn't happen since there were a lot weaker opponents near you that you could have taken out a lot easier. But you just came after me. When you took your provinces back I was busy fighting Caelum and thought that you would settle for those. Then I tried to make peace with you by giving you provinces that were under your dominion but you just kept coming. And I kept smacking you back to the sea. You just couldn't take the hint. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Finally I was forced to go after you with a real army and throw you back to the sea for good. I tried to follow and finish you off, but that one starspawn took my entire army out. Damn him. I think it was by biggest defeat in the whole game.

WraithLord November 11th, 2006 04:37 PM

Re: RAND2

@Jurri, ok, so I now I have a better understanding of why we were at war in the first place. I haven't paid that much attention to your war with Ulm so I haven't noticed I'm stepping on your toes taking Ulm provinces.

@Grizannor, I think someone not attacking you and just retaking his provinces many turns straight should be obvious enough a hint for peace. Maybe Juton player had an aversion for half man http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I must admit that for me it was a fun game, one of the best I've been at. I think no diplo and VP can make for some fun MP games.
See you all in dom-III games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
