I have heard of odd things happening in other games on servers that were interrupted and then restarted.

Eh one of my naga's vanished when I ordered her to build a lab. Not sure if anything else weird happened. At first I dismissed it as a fluke but now that you guys brought it up ...

Well I guess I got off light then. I didn't actually lose any of my commanders, one just disappeared and reappeared somewhere else.

You lost half your Sages FAJ? Ouch, that really blows, sorry to hear that.

Missing commanders? I havent noticed any yet. But like half my sages are ready to die from disease, thats for sure. Is there any pattern?

Given that Rather has communicated his inability to connect to wi fi till Wednesday, I'd seriously like to request we pause the server till then. Especially because he had made an effort to try to at least get a turn but couldn't due to the server being down. With such an accelerated start, it is a pretty heavy disadvantage to stale.

Recoverable if you just spend it all on forts + labs + temples .

Hehehe, good to hear http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So, what are you guys thinking of this game so far? Personally I think this game concept is working out smashingly! We are on what... turn 12 or something? And the Well of Misery is already in play. So we know that high magic is under research on all sides! And the sages have worked out really well, too. They arent unbalancing and they are allowing me to free up my good mages for more useful tasks. Really liking this game/concept so far!!

Very fun and fast paced beginning! I think its great how we can use our national spell casters to do our "thematic" stuff.

The only thing I lack is truly sufficient amounts of gems/slaves etc to fuel my theoretical capabilities.

A slight modifier to Ironhawk's concept for this game might be to include X amount of each gem type per player.?

I'm building lots of indy priests how 'bout you?!

This setup makes fun and i would try another one after finishing this.

I'm not sure playing with starting gems makes sense. It would help the nations with magic diversity very much (for example finding most of the sites very fast) and nation with only a few magic paths not as much.

Yeah I am finding this also. Its so odd, with 65 sites I thought that I would be swimming in magic sites. But my gem income is only average. Perhaps we should push it up to 70 (can you even go to 75?) in the next game.

Re: The Quick and The Dead (Accelerated Start) [OP

I agree with calmon about the starting gem idea. It might unbalance things somewhat. But if bumping up the sites number doesnt fix it, it seems worth exploring the idea a little.

So, you can't directly mod gems into a player's starting treasury as far as I know. But, there are a couple of things you could do tho. The first thing that springs to mind would be to give each player one or more gem-generator items.

Another idea would to mod in a special magic site that produces.... say 1 gem of each type? And add that to each players capital.

FAJ February 27th, 2007 06:14 PM

Re: The Quick and The Dead (Accelerated Start) [OP

I like the relitivly low gem count. Puts more emphasis on building different troop types and using combinations of archers, infantry cavelry etc instead of all your strategy going into a handful of mages and their abilities.

Hahaha, no chance rathar http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I was hoping for a short, brutal war - but I will settle for a long bloody one. You put up a smashing defense at your capital, for which I salute you. But it was your walls that saved you. When you face me on the field I will crush you, Wailing Winds or not.

*Rumours of a large cage being built for Arkolaos's new "songbird" is nearing completion*

Caelum has chosen their path, they have been offered a merciful truce so that we may gather our strength to counter the threat that gathers to the west of our lands - Ermor. Let it be known that Arcosephale declares a blood feud with Caelum. Our phalanx's and seers shall not rest till one of us has been vanquished, may we meet in glorious battle on the field.

So sayeth Arkolaos, protector of Arcoscephale.

The Dread Goddess Morkana speaks:

Ha! You are being fooled, friend from Arcosephale. Caelum offered us a deal as well, such that we would become enemies. I also was subject to ridiculous demands to which I could never agree. Our only option is to fight to the end. Yea Caelum, you've made quite the comeback, but your string of victories is about to come to a decisive conclusion.

And meanwhile... The Ermorian army grows out of control. Provinces, gems, research... Can we guess who is going to win this game? Ermor.

Re: The Quick and The Dead (Accelerated Start) [OP

Let me clarify this. Arcoscephale offered Caelum a truce. Caelum's reply to Arcoscephale was something along the lines of "Burn in Hell".

Then Ulm offered Caelum a truce. Caelum replied with admittedly heavy terms for a truce between Ulm and Caelum. Caelum felt the terms honorable given Ulm's blatant past aggression and the fact that Caelum is one province away from Ulm's capital.

Ulm refused Caelum's terms for a truce. And so they choose to burn.

At no time did Caelum ever offer or ask for peace between Arcoscephale and Caelum.

Ah, so Ulm's pitiful band of dilinquents chased off my Mercenaries next to his capitol. No matter, they had outlived their usefulness. I hope you have the funds to raise a strong garrison. That or you have a strong army behind your advance force.

No matter, since Arcoscephale seems to languish in indecision and do much of nothing, the pitiful band of Ulm shall all meet an immediate death, trampled under the mighty wings and feet of the armies of Caelum.

It would have behoven you to take the truce.

I am thinking a grand alliance must be formed against the Ermorian threat, that was my intent in sending a diplomatic envoy offering a ceasefire to Caelum (they are neighbours with Ermor - possibly even recieving aid from Ermor in the form of gold) so that they might ally with Ermor's neighbours and remove the vile undead threat, alas it was not to be. Caelum's short sigtedness means they seek a crushing defeat on the battlefield instead.

Who else shares a border with Ermor? It is time to settle your petty differences and unite against the undead threat!

Ermor has provided Caelum no direct aid other than the mutual exchange of magical gems. However, the Noble Calmon of Ermor has relieved Caelum greatly by removing Utgard as a direct threat.

I am proud to call the Ashen Empire an ally. Let Ermor rule the lands and seas of our enemies, while Caelum claims dominion over the mountaintops and skies. Those who are neutral or eventually claim friendship may share in the spoils of war.

Those opposed to these claims shall burn.

And so I shall "Bring it on". But the difference is great. Unlike your so-called Bush idol, you are not facing a disorganized group of disparate insurgents. You face a highly disciplined war machine.

If only the Rangers and Zweihanders of Ulm had such a decisive, resolute leader, you may actually win out in the end. Fortunately for Caelum, this is not the case.

The Dread Goddess Morkana speaks:

Perhaps this is where Caelum got its gold for the Troop Surge of mercenaries. I see that the feathered fiends are too weak to do their own dirty work. No matter, the mercenaries have broken like water against the rocks, and so shall any other invasion force. As unreasonable as Caelum seems, I would make the suggestion that any alliance with Ermor can only end in the death and zombification of its people. Perhaps its people, as bird-brained as they are, will one day see this and smash the false idols of "Gabrielle" before it is too late.
