Gandalf...thanks for the offer, but don't want to inconvenience you that way. Knowing this game takes a half hour to host helps put things in perspective.

keep at it, even with the annoyance of trying 6 times it still only took like 5 minutes.

I use the shortcut on the web directory
double click
see "waiting for info"
ctrl-alt-delete, task manager
don't do anything other than right click, close the dom tab
wait a sec
click end task
wait a few secs
click don't send
close task manager
repeat
takes maybe a minute or so on my comp

The first 6 times I also had firefox, outlook up and closed them for the time it worked. I really think it was coincidental, but you never know.

Ctrl+alt+del is boring, I added "--window" in my shorcut. When it hang I just close(X) the window.

Here is my shortcut line :
"C:\Program Files\dominions3\dom3.exe" --ipadr game.dom3minions.com --port 9876 --tcpclient --window

Heehee. Its not inconvenience. Im totally lazy. Thats why I had pre exec and post exec added to the server commands. The post exec for this game has a section that sends the stat file to a list of email addresses. Its all automated. If I cant automate something, it doesnt tend to get done more than once. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Problems connecting again

HAHAHA....I followed jutetrea's method and it hung once then it logged on.

Problem is this computer is approaching ancient..circa 2003 and very slow. It takes about 4 full minutes to cold load Dom3. And getting out of the hung game takes more like 2 or 3 full minutes per occurance.

I hate anything windowed.. but then again I guess I could just hit alt-enter(?) right?

alright, you win. windowed is way easier http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Traveling for the next 2 nights so turns will be slow. I should still get them done as long, just won't be till late EST.

So is anyone still having the connection problem?

jimkehn May 7th, 2007 10:48 AM

I did last nite, Gandalf. It took the third try using your .lnk icon on my desktop. Haven't tried it this morning, yet. But I did it last nite after you posted the DoS attack message.

"The Shadow March has begun."

Take actions accordingly.

From --The Prophecies of Mictlan-- :

"And accordingly, so was a shadow sent forth. And the shadow did battle with another shadow, under cover of darkness. And there were great gnashings of teeth, and crunchings of bone, and rippings and tearings of wriggly fleshy bits. In the end, one shadow stood over the other. But behold! The spirit of the fallen shadow was not vanquished, only banished to its home."

Mictlan will return to the land of Lanka one day, and the shadow prince will be destroyed for good.

Is it possible the hang up issue has something to do with the ultra detailed turn reports? I still can't connect QQ

Foodstamp May 7th, 2007 02:42 PM

Re: Update creates a few quirks

I was able to get my turn in, and I think I may have found a trick to doing it. I won't know if it worked or was just coincidence until next turn. What I did was I doubleclicked my shortcut for the game, it hung up and I doubleclicked the short cut again while the hung up instance was still hung up. The second instance of the exe I launched went straight to the game with no hesitation or hang ups.

It may have been coincidence, but if your hanging up, its worth a shot http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There are still connecting issues, but I can live with. It takes me usually a couple of time to connec to the server.

I just tried it again, the method I listed has worked two times in a row now. Just double click the icon, let it hang up, double click a new instance, bam your in.

Farewell Lanka

Mictlan offers our respects to the fallen warriors of Lanka, who fought honorably and valiantly on the field of battle. Many of Mictlan's most wondrous creations were destroyed at the tips of Lanka's swords.

And were it not for a minor miracle and a less than perfect combat AI, there would be far fewer jaguars on the Western plains today, and far more of the tiger demons.

In a strange coincidence, Mictlan heard tidings this month from the East, regarding the demise of the Ancient Ones who had only recently emerged from their caves deep beneath the surface of the earth.

The Mindlords of R'lyeh have found ourselves in surplus of several gem types. We have stockpiles of fire gems and earth gems we would like to trade for death gems. If you are interested, send me a PM and we will work out a deal. We are willing to trade on a 1 to 1 ratio on the gems.

The Giants are restless

The great Giants of Niefelheim have been couped up in their labs for many months, and have grown restless for adventure. At this very moment, they are sharpening their weapons and gathering their supplies to prepare for a march on Ermor.

Ermor is clearly a worthy adversary, and we expect that they will provide considerably more resistance than the docile pale ones. Nevertheless, our warriors would much rather die in glorious battle than to whither in old age in some dank and dusty lab.

T\'ien Chi is back from his heavenly meetings

Master Kardash has returned from Beaurocracy Hell and will be able to attend to his dominion much more efficiently.

After many hours of meetings with his advisors he has determined that information technology shall be banned within the realm. Standardization is the work of the devils and orderly workflows are much overrated, turmoil shall be the order of the day. Beer and virgins shall be dispensed amongst the realm, hopefully drawing out the random maenead.

Finally he gives thanks to his air mages for the early flight home, just in time to avoid missing his anniversary with the Empress.

The Yomi's demons are bored too. They are growing and there is no more to eat. They're starting to stare at the properous ermorian empire with envy.

A Yomi's slave human legist told them that there is NAP with three month warning between them and Ermor. *Sliiing !* The head of the legist rolled on the ground... Then our prophet claimed :

"Ermor we put an end at this truce ! We respect though our previous pact. Therefore you have three months to prepare yourself for WAR ! We'll send our demons hordes in the middle of winter of the year three of ascension war !"

Re: T\'ien Chi is back from his heavenly meetings

Seems that the pattern for the unable to connect is that one has to be currently connected, or attempting to connect before the other gets through. Foodstamps trick was to have one attempt at connection then immediately follow up with another attempt.

I also notice that on those occassions where I was able to connect on the first try was when someone else was connected.

Memo: MK to staffing clerks

On behalf of Master Kardash, I would like to submit a request to the heavenly beaurocracy to PLEASE STOP SENDING troops!!!, ahem. As I was saying, please divert all fanatics and militia willing to join the glorious cause into the department of fisheries and farmland where they may do some good. Further deportments will continue to strain our economy by providing extra mouths to feed.

We regret the loss of the previous weeks TPS reports and will have our scribes working diligently to catch up. Please stop. We promise to fill out all forms in triplicate, with the required seals and signatures. Master Kardash himself will be on hand to shuffle paper tomorrow.

***4 luck events, yay!, 4 troop events, boo, 200+ upkeep eek!. Anyone want to kill off a few hundred useless troops? luck my #$%3*.

Saint_Dude May 11th, 2007 12:39 AM

Re: Memo: MK to staffing clerks

We Giants would be happy to help if we were in the neighborhood. We are adept at the business of squishing useless little people. Although we have some trepidation that given Kardash's exorbitant gem income, any helpful party may find that the rumored peasants are in fact a horde of summons; perhaps celestial warriors?

jutetrea May 11th, 2007 01:08 AM

Re: Memo: MK to staffing clerks

We wish, ahem, alas the sudden appearance of a few hundred celestial soldiers would have been a boon indeed. As it is we shall start filing the forms for the inclusion of a dismiss command and in the meantime put the peasants to work.

Militia Madness

T'ien Ch'i is not the only nation to suffer from an over-enthusiastic populace.

The southern jungles of Mictlan overflow with young warriors seeking to prove themselves in battle. We have no funds to support these recruits, and our our god has deemed them unacceptable sacrifices.

Mictlan has no choice but to send them off to war.

Helheim, you have been an honorable neighbor. It is with great sadness that we hereby cancel all pacts with you. Our armies march, so make your preparations accordingly. We would be overjoyed if you would agree to engage in battle earlier! Please just send us a message -- either a messenger or an invading army will do. According to our agreements, if you do not accept an earlier start to hostilities, then you may expect the first wave of young Mictlan soldiers to die on your spears in three month's time, Early Spring.

Thanks. The script is already in the vaults of this forum and the attachment gets changed whenever it is updated. A web server with PHP is needed, no database required. You'll have to fiddle around with the starting commands for the game server to workaround some problems, but it's all described in the ReadMe...

If anything's unclear, feel free to ask in the thread.

The fabled treasures of Helheim

Mictlan is looking forward to viewing your fine collection of Gems during our vacation in the southlands.

We do not expect to be staying long. We are mainly interested in previewing a small amount of real estate surrounding the famed Hot Waters. We would like to acquire perhaps 5 or so provinces in that vicinity. Oh, and Morn too. You do remember that Morn was once Mictlan's long ago ? It's time to pay the rent. With interest. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: The fabled treasures of Helheim

As you probably have seen in our catalouges, we have already bulit up our infrastructe so we are ready to welcome additional guests. According to our archieves, you "were happy" to "give as back" this province so we are a bit confused. But we do belive that when we meet everything will be clear. As our goodwill, we would be happy to build up in that province a huge graveyard of Mitclan warriors. There will be more death gems then;)

Re: The fabled treasures of Helheim

Someone verified that it was a problem on other servers than mine so I stopped looking for server problems.

The fixes people give seem to be along the line of "first connect bombs and second connect works if you slip in while its still resetting something".

So now I have my desktop is connected to the game and sitting on the "Waiting for game info" screen provinding everyone with a second-connection. Its only a temp fix for some of the larger games Im hosting. I dont plan to do the same with all of the blitzes. Ive reported the problem in the beta group to the devs.
