Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I noticed that after negotiating a 'peace' with him, and then claiming the moral high ground, you nevertheless proceeded to attack him the following turn, rather than attempt to redress the situation. That smacks of opportunism, not 'honor'.
Blackmail?! THIS IS PYTHIA! *kicks c'tis messenger into hydra pit* Also, arcoscephale was friendlier earlier |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Interesting, Pyjamas (oh, did I just misspel pythium? Ok, bad joke I know).
So you ask for concessions and before I can even give them to you, you attack me? Clearly your intention always was to attack us anyway, and hopefully get some free astral gems on the side? Where is the honor in that? And for the last time: No agreement was ever reached between C'tis and arco, no NAP or anything, so we cannot have broken any either. You may attack us all you want (and I have a feeling you probably will), but C'tis honor is holy! Btw, regarding that legionnary horde of yours that you have marching on our capital... ever heard of Varus and the Teutenburg forest? Well, we have no forests but a swamp full of angry lizards could do the trick as well!! You have been warned. Now we have nothing more to say to you but this: BRING-IT-ON!! |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Can I get vids of the battle?
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Things are really heating up down there, I see. It will be interesting to see how things look, once the dust of battle settles...
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Unfortunately, it seems to be stalemated as there is a big area of no supply between our lands...
Ah, well. Theres more than one way to skin a lizard. Anyone want to sell me supply items? |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I would, but I have this pesky spider infestation...
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
It's no infestation if there's spiders involved. They're holy and divine animals with superior grace. They do not "infest", they brighten your dull life by their mere presence. It's time you "holy men" of Marignon learned some real culture. And our culture, being superior and all that is all about spiders, superior animals. Even our gods most holy prophet Chaga is a spider! Rest your ears in his holy words!
"Chiiiik, Chiiik, Chiii, Chihiii" Learn form that, you barbarian. Soforu, the second sun. God of Machaka |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Bah to you Tien Chi! 2 of your 3 surprise attacks were repulsed by the forces of Agartha. Agartha will fight your unwarranted aggression.
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Heh.
Nothing personal, Agartha. I am not in the best of positions currently. I need to expand to stay competitive--especially with Arcoscephale, which has the most provinces *and* the most income!--and yours was the only neighbouring nation I hadn't exchanged diplomacies with. (The fact that you are a nice, ripe, easy, weak target is, of course, completely irrelevant...) I am going to eradicate you for purely objective reasons. Which I am sure will be a comfort to you as I stomp your heretic, heathen armies into the dirt, bringing the Way of the One True Faith to your populace. They will be the better for it. |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I need to plan my SC gods' scripting better. Fear +13 (or 14 can't remember), and awe+0 and he still died. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif
Eradication is highly unlikely however. Your massed archers barely scratch my infantry and my holy statues. Losses are expected, but we shall not fall easily if at all. And of course nothing personal, I'm still having a good time. I'm just glad I pushed for my national statue spells. |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Heh. First time I've done that without getting the "You killed our god! This war will never end, you bleeping bleepard!" message.
Had to watch the battle twice to confirm I'd done it, before I realized "Oh yeah. Not a computer player!" : ) Edit: And okay, I admit, maybe it's not turning out so "easy" as I expected. *ahem* But that will only make my ultimate victory all the sweeter! |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I've really played poorly too. I only started rallying after being attacked. I conquered too slowly early; too many turns wasted repositioning forces instead of taking indies; and the best one is that I went and cranked my home province taxes to 150 and then forgot to turn it back down even after I moved my patrolling forces out. I suddenly couldn't build any mages or troops at home and then saw why and that was a serious doh! moment. Ah well, still been fun.
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I hear you.
I didn't recruit a researcher until turn 7. And I expanded too slowly as well. Waited too long to build my second castle. Went Drain 2. And mismanaged my Pretender a bit. Still gonna take you out, though. ; ) |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
We'll see about that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Sorry for the late notice - I am going to be out of town this weekend. I will take turn 26, but can we delay the next turn until sometime on Monday?
thanks! |

Wow.
Something like 6 marshmasters, 4 lizard kings, and 200 troops versus an opposing army of 7 arch theurgs, a prophet, some random legate, and 200 troops. Would you mind posting the battle in a few turns (5 or so), parcelt? |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I don't mind at all. But how do I do that?
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Heh. You two smashed heads, eh? I would love to see it, myself...
Btw, this weekend is a holiday for us Canuckleheads, and I'm going away for vacation. The latest I would be able to get a turn in would be 07:00 - 09:00 GMT, Saturday August 4th. Then I won't be be able to get a turn in until around 07:00 - 09:00, *TUESDAY* (not Monday, damned GMT miscalcs : ) August 6th. What I can do, if you'd like, is post again in this thread when I've done the last turn I'll be able to before my trip, and ask you to delay it so I don't stale out. Let me know. Edit: Corrected return time. |

Well, the way we were discussing doing it in jaguar was to post an attachment of your turn files from that turn- but waiting five turns so people don't get intelligence that could be dangerous. And, yeah, we definitely cracked heads. AWIY went AWOL when he was supposedly needing aid against C'tis, so it came down to C'tis vs. me. |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I had another look at the battle. Definitely a crack of a lot of heads http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
If I post my turn files does that mean everybody can see the messages I received that turn as well? Because in that case I'd rather you post the turns, so no information on diplomatic relations between C'tis and other players becomes public (even with a 5-turn delay. C'tis was involved in some very high-level politics http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ) |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
Well, I'd be willing to try.
Your politics statement worries me, though. |

My guess would be that Vegas is not the default, though I don't have a ton of MP experience to make the call. I do know that if a NAP isn't worth the pixels it's printed on I wouldn't waste my valuable time negotiating for nothing.

Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
There are no rules regarding NAPs in this game. At least for the time being llamabeast is not specifying these on games on his server.
You can agree to a NAP with no intention of honoring it and proceed to violate it. People shouldn't hold a grudge outside of the game and you certainly won't be kicked out of it. But you also can't complain if it makes players disinclined to deal with you. |

It seems that one can easily go too far in either direction. You can be a rampant liar/betrayer and then what's the point of diplomacy? or you can be Mr. NeverAttacksAnyone because you don't want to hurt anyones feelings. I guess it's a side affect of having persistent player personalities in repeatedly new wars. Probably covered by game theory. |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
My take on NAPs in general is that you are free to make or break them at will. However, if you make an NAP and then leave a border completely undefended, if the guy breaks the NAP you only invited it upon yourself. On the other hand, you can go public with things and try to sway the other people about what is going on and get them on your side.
|
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
I generally honor my NAPs and if I make closer alliance/promises with someone, I honor that too. I have no qualms about assaulting anyone, that's why there is usually the three-month breakege involved with every NAP I make.
If the map is crwoded I have no idea how one can go around breaking NAP without warning. Once you break one NAP, yuo're at war all the time with everyone since no-one will trust you no more. Trading? A lot harder since you have to send everything first (making it possible for someone to sucker you). I think breaking NAPs simply not worth it. I'd rather wait 3 turns before making myself a political outcast. |
Re: Chinchilla - Delay game?
99 times out of 100 I honor everything. Its only in a game changing situation that I would consider it.

Abysia
Due to abysia's inconsistent diplomatic approach, the nation of pythium, some turns ago, felt it necessary to take steps. Having offered a generous solution to an earlier problem (The problem: Abysia took taken provinces behind pythium lines, with the solution being an offering of the income of the provinces in question, in addition to the sum of 300 gold, and the income of one other province abysia was expanding towards, from pythium to Abysia). Abysia ignored this offer- in fact, they sent no response, instead attempting to expand even further, and initiated a troop buildup on pythium's border.
Therefore, pythium was been forced to cancel the renewal of the NAP, which is due to expire on turn 39, by their count, with agggresive action (battles and the like) occuring on turn 40. However, said NAP has not yet expired, and violations of the terms included therein while the NAP is still in effect would result in an instant, and full, aggressive response. Individuals interested in supporting this effort are requested to make donations to pythium, preferably of pearls, air gems, or gold. Thank you. Approved by the Department of Border Integrity and the Theurgs of Pythium |
Re: Abysia
Inconsistent? As in: we made a NAP and stuck to it? As in: we discuss things instead of issuing ultimatums?
It sounds very dramatic to say we took provinces behind Pythian lines but the truth is that we took Arco's provinces (as did everyone else in the area) north of Pythium's lines. Other nations please be aware that all of Arco's former territories are apparently considered by Pythium to be behind their ever-expanding lines. Pythium will inform you of when you must return those provinces and if you don't return them then Pythium will declare war. Abysia would greatly appreciate other nations' assistance in dealing with the Pythian menace. Obviously we have an uphill battle but we have been forced into war by an aggressive, uncompromising neighbor. In any case we would be surprised to see nations assist Pythium. Look at Pythium's atttack on C'tis, the number of Arco's provinces they have gained and their research progress and it is clear who the danger is. One correction that we think Abysia and Pythium can agree on is that the NAP was for a six turn warning and so Pythium's estimates of when the NAP ends should have one turn added to them. |
Re: Abysia
(Okay, schedule fixed above)
I'm also not sure what you meant by 'the number of Arco's provinces Pythium took'. Arco never had a large presence there- in fact, the provinces you invaded were, until recently, provinces of Oceania's that Arco had attacked when it went AI. Most of the similar territory in that area was much the same. When I expanded into Arco's territory, (province 68) I found that you had several fliers who were well to the west of that area (63). Oceania can easily verify this. As for uncompromising? Pythium made several offers and issued several notices via in-game messages over the last three turns. Throughout those, Abysia never responded, until the final count was posted on these forums. They had, earlier, expressed a desire to keep the number of border provinces as low as possible. Instead, they expanded in across pythium's borders, more than doubling the number of border provinces between the two nations. This was the original source of 'border inconsistency'. The approach of war is not quite inevitable, even now. The earlier offer still stands. Abysia has merely declined the opportunity to compromise. Note: This is all the pythium speaking. Out of character: Did jotunheim stale last turn? IF not, then when they take their last turn, could they do us all the favor of waiting five minutes for the server to host, and taking their second turn then? This really goes for anyone who is the last to take their turn in any quickhost game. |
Re: Abysia
Double post:
I just managed to waste 60 gems and one of my more useful mages and achieved absolutely nothing this round. General woe. |

Marignon has fallen
The "spider infestation" in Marignon has ended and the glorious reign of the disposable god-king of Machaka has started. Some provinces still remain "uninfested", but they will soon join our glorious nation.
Marignon fought bravely and to the bitter end, but in the end, the eternal light of our god Soforu, the Second Sun just shone more brightly than Marignon's holy flames. We would like to take is opportunity to advertise our forging services. We have Fire, Earth, Death, Nature (and soon water) covered. Dwarven Hammers are no-brainer. Fire Brands and Charccoal Shields for your SC's. Boosters, like Earth Boots, Thistle Maces, Flame Helmets!, and Skull Staffs are also available. We can be paid by Water gems, Air boosters, Blood Stones, Crystal Coin, Ring of Wizardy/Sorcery and Staff of Elmental Mastery. Money is also fine, I want 12 gold per gem in the cost of the item. @Warhammer: Have to admit I got a bit lucky during our war. Those Knights couldn't have picked a worse time for you! I also assume that my Flames from Afar fried your commander ferrying your troops making your 3 Grand Masters attack alone.. That certainly was a large nail in your coffin. I hope to see you in another battlefield. |

That said, you were able to take advantage of the mistakes which is what separates the good players from the bad. Those spiders of yours were killer, and I just didn't have any mages that were capable of going after their weaknesses. I still don't know exactly what I could have done to take them down given my situation. I didn't have the diversity of magic I needed to really hurt them. GG, it was fun playing with all of you and hopefully, I will see you guys in other games. |

I know some people are fans of Order 3 and Misfortune 3, but I'm a bit too paranoid to take that. I usually have Order 3 and Misfortune2/Misfortune1 if I can afford it. I'm not that experienced player so I'm not basing this on anything concrete evidence, misfortune 3 just seems so creepy. |
Re: Marignon has fallen
That was my problem, I didn't have time to research up to Thau4. Most of my good spells are in Evo and Ench is looks like. But, I probably should have researched up to Thau4.
I wouldn't have had issues with the knights, except that I was dealing with you (and aside from the spiders, I think our forces were even). My forces were off doing other things that were more pressing than taking those provinces back over. The killer may have been taking the drain, but I felt that it was necessary to do that to take the Order and Production. Production is a must for Marignon, but I might experiment with some other scales next time I play them. The other issue is that I should have taken a pretender with some death scales. That would have made conjuration a viable magic school for me. Still, first time playing a nation is a learning experience. |
Re: Marignon has fallen
[Late summer is a busy month for me travel-wise I guess] I will remind people in a few days, but I'll be out of town from Friday morning - Monday evening (PST) this weekend ... possible to delay?

Re: Marignon has fallen
I may be getting a sub for this game, although it is more likely that I will turn it AI instead. As it is, I can hardly fend off the weaker of the two nations preying on me.

Re: Marignon has fallen
Heh. Hey Caelum, regretting the invasion yet?
I offered you a chance to back off, when you ended the NAP, and to take what you had originally asked for before declaring war. (I didn't know it was do-this-or-war, btw; would have helped if I had.) Then I warned you, when you attacked me while I was occupied in a war with Agartha, that you would regret that decision. When I couldn't fend off your highly-mobile armies, and you kept Seeker-Arrowing my leaders off, I knew I had lost the game. So I switched gears, and decided to make sure I brought *you* down with me. I have been besieging your home capital, while you beseige my two castles. I assume you sent 22 of your leaders out to attack me because I had almost brought your walls down, in a last desperate attempt to save your home province--and now they're all dead. 22 strong researchers and spellcasters, gone. That must hurt. You may be rebuilding your walls now by weakening my army, but defeating your castle was never my true goal (though it would have been nice to tear down your castle and lab, I must admit). Shutting your production down was. And at 132 unrest and climbing, with my army still occupying, you aren't going to be using that province again any time soon. And you aren't going to break down my own walls anytime soon, either. I can summon defenders at will, and have effectively infinite supplies. All you're doing is keeping your armies occupied. Fine by me! Next game, you might want to pick your wars a...bit more wisely. To the others, Caelum only has two castles free atm, with low production values. Their armies are currently locked in sieges with me. The provinces they conquered have been at 200 taxation for a long time now. They are ripe for the plucking. To Agartha: I'm sorry. I attacked you because you were the only nation I never spoke with, and you *looked* the weakest. Yet you turned out to be the most honourable and good-natured of my neighbours. I only wish I knew that before I chose my target. Lesson learned. Sound out your neighbours' nature before attacking. If I had done that, I would have offered to *ally* with Agartha *against* Caelum. Ah well, lesson learned. : ) For my very first MP game, I didn't do *too* badly--though I did not do very well, I must admit. At least I have learned from a *lot* of mistakes. I will stay in play until I know for sure Caelum's going down, then set myself to A.I. There is an in-game message along these lines coming, for those that may not read the forums. Have fun, the rest of you! |
