Hopefully you won't live long enough to dispel many more of them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Does anyone know how long the game will last? And how is the winner decided if the game is ended before everyone have given up? I've never played multiplayer before so I don't know how it's usually done.

Without special victory condition , the winner will be decided by the surrendering of all other players.

I fear that it will be long. We're playing turn 71, I know that I can't win but my loss takes much time than I thought. I got the impression that utgard and tienchi are just toying with me.
By the way, does someone know how many turns lasted the longest game on this forum?

I guess I have been playing around somewhat but that's only because I've never played to endgame before. I didn't mean any harm I just wanted to try out all the cool unique summons and items. It seems like I underestimated you and really should have tried to play as effective as possible. Summoning a demon lord and having him seduce bogus and friends one by one probably wasn't very cost effective http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Yea, it seems like the game will drag on. I don't think anyone will have an easy win.

I think most games ended within 75 turns. Here is a 100+ turns one:

I feel that holyfrog doesn´t realize that he´s not playing to win if he helps Utgard.
Declaring war now to him.
Starting it in turn 78 as for the NAP we have.

If everyone kept gang on the strongest nation, this game won't end even after one hundred years http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

By the way, I think you should use "T'ien Ch'i doesn´t realize that ... ", not "holyfrog doesn´t realize that...". We role playing the nation, not role playing ourselfs http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

I'm telling this all the time.
This is the worst game I played so far. It's ok to form an alliance, but to play without the intention to win and only helping someone other kills the fun.
You can call this "role play" or whatever, but it destroys the gamebalace (especially in a smaller game with fewer players). I don't think I want to play with you again.

It's the great alliance destroys the game balance, not me. This game gone wrong when the first alliance against R'lyeh took place. When the second alliance against Utgard took place, I realized that there won't have a winner if everyone kept gang on the strongest nation. From then I change my self-interest for the alliance to win. As for allied victories, they are always "allowed".

Though I don't think it's fair to carry things from one game to another, I would like to say I don't want to play with a player who gives up fighting but doing odd things like scorched earth with the sole intention of making life miserable for the opponent, like you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif It's your silly actions made me lost temper and decided to siege that rubbish R'lyeh castle instead of invading X, everything gone worse from there and in the end I lost the patience about this game.

no, alliance victory is not allowed.

"making life miserable for the opponent"

Thats the way to fight a war 5 against 1 (when you are the one). I never give up and fight until the end - guess who dispelled again this turn...

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

I'll try to explain my point of view but english isn't my native language so I hope you will understand what I say:
- this game was a lot of fun. It was my first MP game on this forum ( I've already played 3 MP games on a french forum ) and it was the first time I survived long enough to see the late game ( tartarian everywhere, quite scary! ).
I also discovered a nation that I never played even in SP game: pangaea. Their late game sucks but they have wonderful troops, I should have taken an other pretender.
- I understand both tharsonius and holyfrog's point of view about diplomacy so I won't try to reconcile you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
- anyway, I'm losing interest in this game: I know that that I don't have a single chance to win ( I got a glimpse at utgard's capital and it's really impressive ) but I still have a great empire and my turns take a lot of time to play. Utgard send me approximatively 2 horrors and 4 disease demons each turn and the greatest part of my commanders are horror marked or insane. With astral corruption up, I fear that this game will become more and more frustrating.
So, I'm very close to set myself to AI but I don't want to leave c'tis. What can I do? I'm ready to admit that utgard won.

Torin February 10th, 2008 05:35 PM

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

Obviously Utgard won. I´m just playing now. If more of us are bored we can call it off.
Disease demons were to my way too but they couldn´t kill the tomb kings.
If you want to keep playing I´ll keep too.

My starting position is really bad. No province makes gold so I was poor for the full game. I couldn´t afford normal troops so only bought mages. And not every turn. Even when my scales werent that bad. Luckily at the end game that´s not all important.

OK . I apologize for my actions to seek an alliance victory in recently turns. I'm tired, and have no chance to win, so I set TC to AI. I hope you have a happier game after I leave. I'm sorry.

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

Alliance victory usually IS allowed, especially if it has a sense in the gaming.

An example : If one nation is attacked heavily , and another player comes to his rescue to stand side by side vs the aggressor sometime (especially if not esplicitally prevented in the game setup) those 2 nation if remain the only one standing in the end can decide to make it a draw beetween themselves (or worst case scenario be allied till the end and then fight it beetween their two )

As for the game it's a real shame it turned out to be not so pleasant in the end, i didnt get exactly what was the problem still if there is a general consensus to who is the winner we can stop it and maybe start a new one from scratch.

At the very least i hope u all enjoyed the experience (end excluded)

Please let me know if i have to stop the game!

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

OK. Im ready to end and declare Utgard winner.
He did a good game. I think that we had no option when we ganged Ermor and Rlieh.
It was a decent game but the map is not suited for MP I guess.

yandav February 11th, 2008 09:33 AM

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

The same for me. I think that a part of the problem was the presence of nations like ermor and r'lyeh wich became frightening really fast. By browsing through the forum, I saw that some late age games are played without them.

A question to utgard though: was it you first MP game? ( please tell me no so I won't feel too stupid http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ).

Kadelake February 11th, 2008 03:10 PM

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

Well, it was my first real MP game at least. But I've played against Folket on random small maps three times. The first time he underestimated me so I actually managed to win. I got beaten really bad the other times. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

I think it has been a fun game and I've learned a lot. Holyfrog helped me a lot with advice and recourses, I wouldn’t be the most powerful without his help. It was the first time I played a blood nation and it was really fun but a little time consuming. Next I have to learn how to use communions. All my mages have either astral or blood so I guess I should have used them. My death/astral mages are on the way now. A couple of D3 Nornas with 16 slaves should be able to beat your undead I hope. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I have to agree that the map was unbalanced. It seems to be made more for thematic effect, not game play.

Ok, we all agree so I set myself to AI. Congratulations to utgard and thanks to fabio80mi and llamabeast!

Re: Suricate - pbem LA newbie game - (OPEN)

This was a scenario map and likely you're right, it may have been unbalanced (though in the end the favorites didnt win it seems!)

Unless someone says otherwhise i'll declare the game closed in 24 hours

Congratulations to all the players ^^

My presence in the forum has been a bit sparse in the last month, if there isnt enough games going on guess a new game will be starting within a week you're all welcome to join it!

Thanks to llamabeast that made the managing of the game so smooth, i actually didnt have to do anything except for the new year break =)
