Re: REWARD OFFERED!

Will do, thanks!

By the way, on the turn following the 3.15 update, all my Skaven combat spell scripts were skewed to cast Skaven rituals instead. They didn't follow the script, of course.

Hmmm... I just checked the mods thread and I don't see a Skaven update.

You mind dropping a link to all the updated mods? I don't want to get the wrong one.

Re: REWARD OFFERED!

They're just the first posts of the Skaven and Arga Dis threads.

I haven't updated them previously for ages and ages. They haven't changed particularly recently - it just never occurred to me before for some reason that I should update them on the server. I'm fairly sure the version of Skaven the server was using was old, although the Arga one might not have changed. Anyway, if you have the latest versions from Sombre's threads you're all set.

Abysia is still looking for a thistle mace! I can pay with almost any sort of gem, slaves or gold.

Re: REWARD OFFERED!

On the one hand, scripting a spell with the name "Star Fires" against a fire-immune Cyclops probably wasn't the brightest of decisions.

On the other hand, Word of Power and Curse worked wonders, and the Mute, Diseased Cyclops will now soon fall. It seems I severely overestimated this SC's deadliness.

The cyclops is still in Scytha (87), although there are now more scouts there. I will honour the Reward for this turn, if anyone manages to kill it. After that I will withdraw the reward for now.

Since without their SC, Caelum cannot hope to win our war. ; )

Re: REWARD OFFERED!

Actually, all damage came from mind burn. I overestimated his mr and underestimated the number of these pesky G. Thaumathurgs you were able to throw to battle. Nevertheless, you have beaten me badly in this war. Caelum is doomed.

Was the turn delayed again?

Valerius March 10th, 2008 05:54 PM

Re: TigerCat - new MA game (recruiting)

I delayed hosting by 12 hours on Saturday so BigandScary could resolve the problem he was having. After hosting I then delayed 24 hours for IndyPendant. I guess I should have only done an addiitonal 12 hours delay at that point.

In any case IndyPendant is back and has submitted his turn. So we're just waiting on BigandScary.

Re: TigerCat - new MA game (recruiting)

I just sent the turn file, and will be able to do the next, but I will be gone until Saturday night( or 4am English time.) I was wondering if we could postpone the game until then. I could deal with a single stale, but not two.

Valerius March 11th, 2008 11:55 PM

Re: TigerCat - new MA game (recruiting)

I certainly don't want anyone to stale but I hesitate to delay the game too often as people start to lose interest.

Is there someone who could sub? Or would you be ok with me asking someone to sub? This is assuming you are at peace; if you are at war then I can understand you wouldn't want a sub to take those turns.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw the last turn and it looks like you are at war. If there are no objections I'll delay hosting. Is turn 28 the last turn you can submit or is it 29?

Skaven brings news from the war-ravaged East:

Buzzard still lives! The great Dragon fought valiantly deep in enemy territory. Down to 12HP. Regenerate. Down to 12HP again. Regenerate. Down to 9HP ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif ... regenerate ... and victory!

The Crack Censor Bearer suicide squad fights on too, though its numbers slowly dwindle. They've got the highest ratio of afflictions to warriors ever seen outside the lands of Formoria.

Ocean nibblers

Death rains from the sky on Ulm's infantry. The great Buzzard, though a wee bit crippled, limping, and weakened, cannot be stopped. Skaven Special Forces reports yet more success in taking control of another province in the Ulm heartland. The heroine of Ulm flees in terror from the mighty Skaven ratlings.

But sadly, Skaven High Command was having too much fun planning their battles, and diplomacy was neglected. Now there are strange fish-men frolicking in the forests of the west! Begone from our lands, fish-men! Skaven is a land of death and misery and sad poems. It is no place for dancing with wolves.

Brave Ulmish troops falling in battle, buying time for reinforcements from the sea to emerge!

A dramatic retreat from the Skaven capital as darkness falls from above. Alas, the Grey Seers are powerful and will not be beaten easily. But have faith, as I write this hundreds upon hundreds of heavily armored troops leave the castles of Ulm to keep the fight strong. We will not be beaten. Skaven is trapped in his dark keep and money should be short. Victory is near.

A toast to you brave ally!

And remember this rats of Skaven:
We will fight you on the beaches, in the forests, on the fields, and in your dark infested holes. We will fight you!

TC

Looks like BigAndScary has not yet returned to Dominions, after wherever it was he went on the weekend.

Hope he doesn't stale 3 in a row.

Not that it matters a lot to the long term plans of Skaven, since that mostly involves lots of diggings of burial mounds, writings of wills, and recitings of last rites.

Valerius March 18th, 2008 02:23 AM

Re: TC

I noticed that as well. But I don't really want to delay the game more than we have and at the rate Abysia is taking his provinces I'm not sure it's worth trying to find a sub.

I guess if he stales again we could turn him AI.

vfb March 18th, 2008 02:29 AM

Re: TC

I agree. Playing through the last gasps of a dying nation can be pretty fun when it's the one you started with, but it's pretty meaningless for a sub.

Valerius March 18th, 2008 03:25 AM

Re: TC

Yes, playing through a dying nation can be fun. In the Epic Heroes II game I've spent about 30 turns dying a slow death (my opponent was too distracted with other wars to be able to finish me off). It certainly makes game management easy when you've only got a dozen provinces to worry about at turn 60.

I'll be sorry to see Skaven go. Your posts have been enjoyable. I particularly liked "A Canticle for Chitterfang."

Valerius March 18th, 2008 07:51 PM

Re: TC

T'ien Ch'i has now staled the last three turns. Any objections to me asking llamabeast to set him AI?

Skaven

Sadly, the nation of Skaven passes from the face of the lands.

Biggus Rattus slinks off into the forests to live among the rats of the wild, bearing with him the history of his fallen nation.

Thanks everyone for a great game! Loads of fun. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Skaven

Thousands of man hours the Ulmish troops spent digging graves for the furry and overgrown rodents also known as Skaven. Even more time was spent burying their smaller cousins - the brown rats - that bravely tried to stand up on their wee little back legs, taking arms against the human aggressors. Clad in massive black steel, the Ulmish troops had no choice but to impale and splatter them with their heavy weapons or else they get inside their armor, gnawing off precious objects.

A commander of Ulm was asked why he let his troops occupy themselves with the menial task of digging graves for tiny rats. He answered that they partly did it honor the little furries (as he called them) for their bravery, but mostly to hide their hideous smell. "These rats smell way more than normal rats, like small furry factories of toxic waste gone bad..."

Some days ago a detachment of the 3rd Fist of Steel regiment found a cave deep inside the polluted forest believed to be the source of the rat mutation. Just outside the dark hole a large number of rats wearing "cute" (as one soldier described it) robes were seen, apparently occupied with some strange a ritual. The troops surprised them mightily, giving them no time to prepare any nasty magic spells. Stretching their tiny paws into the air one of the rats suddenly signaled to the others. In a flash everyone threw of their robes, dropped on all four and scurried away in all directions. Left on the ground was a big pile that could only be described as loot. The soldiers understandably forgot all about any rats.

Some weeks later a rat assassin we caught (in the act) told us that that what the troops had seen by the cave was probably the great meeting of Grey Seers. He also told us that the leader of that circle, the Great Grey Seer Biggus Rattus, had been missing for several weeks.

"He will return!", the prisoner screamed when we released him in the forest along with the other rats a couple of days later. Then a large owl swooped down and promptly ate him. "Back to nature", the King of Ulm said smiling, his first smile in years.

The death of Buzzard the dragon

1 Attachment(s)
Finding the mortally wounded dragon hiding in his cave lair, the hero Ruprecht drew his trusted "Faithful", a sword of great power, to finally slay the beast. Buzzard, murderer of over 200 Ulmish soldiers and peasants, had been pierced by a dozen of arbalest bolts in the battle before, and now lay panting inside. Although he could barely move it was to be a fierce battle between them.

Outside the cave less valiant men stood and nervously waited for the outcome. Would Buzzard fly out to slay them all, or would Ruprecht victoriously emerge with the dragons head on a pike?

After what seemed like ages Ruprech suddenly stood before them covered in blood. "It is done", he said. And everyone around him exploded with joy and tears flowed from their eyes.

"All hail the dragon slayer!"

Here is a picture depicting the epic struggle between Ruprecht and the dragon Buzzard. Also seen to the left is one of the maidens Buzzard (the evil) supposedly took and captured.

WAR!

Ulm's final chapter begins soon. Caelum has suffered their just reward for their unprovoked attack on the glorious nation of Ermor. They are no more, their lands absorbed by the Grand Empire of Ermor.

But Caelum has foolishly Awakened our Hunger.

The dead march! We seek a new target, and Ulm has much vital essence for our minions to devour. Tremble Ulm! Our non-agression pact is over. Soon you too will fall to the voracious hordes of Ermor! We are ever honourable; we give you the three-turn warning promised in our agreement. It is currently Turn 39. On Turn 41 we give the orders, and our minions invade on Turn 42.

Ulm will fall.

A justified war - a crusade against evil

As the king of Ulm is now finished weeding out the rats from his kingdom, he feels it will be pleasure to meet your forces on the field of battle.

He hopes that through this war strengthen his honor and reputation, as ridding the world of any undead evils is such a virtues deed.

Abysia is looking for earth gems! We are willing to trade fire gems 4:3 (4 fire for 3 earth) or Air or Water for Earth 1:1

Digress March 31st, 2008 07:10 AM

Re: TigerCat - new MA game (recruiting)

Well we had shadloads of earthgems until the last little while.

Spent some unsucessfully empowering a Capricorn on land. I know they lose some magic when they venture ashore but had forgotten that they go to minus ONE in paths that they never possessed. So I spent 50 gems empowering a mage to earth mage level ZERO. Yay ...

Then why don't you empower someone else ? you know someone who is a level zero mage to start with, then slap on some boosters and cast a rather expensive summoning spell (not for a unique unit mind you).

Well then nothing will turn up.

Its great to spend well north of 150 earth gems to yield nothing ... except three or four turns of lost mage time.

We knew we should have stayed underwater, neighbours kept telling us it would be for the best, but did we listen ... no, no, NO.

Well water under the bridge and all that ... its not like 150 gems are useful for anything http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

TigerCat - change to 48 hour host

We've gotten far with 24 hour hosting and I like how quick moving this game has been. But I am fine with moving to 48 at this point. If there are no objections I'll make the change after the current turn hosts.

I have no objections to 48 hour host. I think the game will most likely still be fast moving even with 48 hours, we've seem to hit upon a group of fast response players.

IndyPendant April 1st, 2008 03:21 PM

Re: TigerCat - change to 48 hour host

Well, I'm going down. I won the war Caelum started against me, but in order to do it I had to commit all my resources--resources that would have better been spent on castles and researchers, just as one example. We're at Turn 47, and I am still below 200 RP per turn!

My only chance as I saw it was to take Ulm's castles and land in the hopes of catching up a bit. But when I attacked Ulm, he called on Neheraka for help, and now it's two against one. My army is still powerful, but I can't handle two foes at once in my war-weary condition. I have asked our mutual neighbours for aid, and I was simply ignored. I can't win this one alone. *shrug*

Since I was the aggressor here, since my eventual loss is assured, and since fighting to my last breath would be of most benefit players who can't even be bothered to respond to my requests for help (even just to say they could not provide any), I see no need to continue playing.

Setting myself to A.I. Nicely played, Ulm, and good luck! ; )

I have mixed feelings about moving to 72 hours hosting. One the one hand I wouldn't mind the extra time but I also wonder if the game will drift with that much time between turns. How does everyone feel about this?

Regarding the current turn I notice only Abysia has their turn in so I think I'll go ahead and delay hosting by 12 hours.
