Psh. I trust you guys :).

Are we sure we want to take that risk, while we are on turn1?

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

It's up to you guys; but unless a bunch of people come on and demand a restart, I'm not going to do that now. Especially a restart that requires everyone to log back on and upload new pretenders.

I'm afraid if we did that, it would take a week to get everyone to re-upload their pretenders, and some people would probably drop out during the process, delaying us again as we look for replacement players.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

I'm obstaining from this decision. All I will say is that I intently watch this thread and would have no doubt in my own ability to swiftly resend my pretender if needed... with a password of course.

Zeldor September 12th, 2008 05:53 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Lingchih:

You are the one that didn't forget about password :) I'm just stating my concerns. Even if everyone is fair then at the end someone may claim that he lost because someone was looking at his turns. I have no idea if there is a way to check if someone else looked at your turn.

PsiSoldier September 12th, 2008 11:36 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Yeah I too did not password my pretender. All I have played on is Lllamma server where there is no need for such a thing. I could always resend my pretender with a password easily.

If we are going to do it now Is the time as the game has not really started yet. Personally I think it would be a good idea. But I'll go with whatever the consensus is.

DrPraetorious September 13th, 2008 02:06 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

I believe that the server logs IP addresses from incoming connections - I will check in the morning, I'm wasted.

Lingchih September 13th, 2008 04:35 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Well, it's rather easy to know if someone else has accessed your turn on an mp server. If, when you log in, the game asks you to choose your nation (after you have already chosen it in the beginning), then someone else has viewed your turn. True, this does not prevent cheating, but it does let you know if cheating has been done.

Seriously though, if this had never been brought up (Zeldor!!!), this would never have been a problem. Hardly anyone in Dominions even thinks of cheating. Almost everyone I know would find that way beneath them. But, when it is made obvious that it is easy to look at another's turn... well, people get tempted.

That said, I could deal with a restart. The only really acceptable restart is a turn 1 restart. But people... please, PW protect your nations. This is not a PBEM game.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

I actually thought about it and didn't password. Figured that since it's a team game, there will probably be times when teammates need to perform sub duties, and passwords would just complicate things. We're all adults here right? I don't cheat at scrabble and I wouldn't cheat at this, and until disappointed otherwise I'm happy to go with no passwords. I agree *very strongly* with Dr Praetorius that it's better to get this thing going.

Host timer is now set at 24 hrs. Good luck!

JAmes243:

It is easy to say that now. Different thing will be later, when you are at war, you know you can look at your enemy turn and probably no one will notice. That is Internet here, people tend to be evil :)

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Other than logging in, is there any way to check the game status? Like a website or something?

James243 September 13th, 2008 04:17 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Haha - Zeldor you're probably right! My post earlier may one day go down in the 'famous last words' category...! :|

DrPraetorious September 14th, 2008 11:48 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

As per request - yes, I can tell which turns are accessed, and when (it's in the text dump that the server is spitting out.)

Then, if I ask Gandalf, he can tell me which IP address connected to the server at that time.

But Gandalf and I are both busy men, so -
1) Do not spy on eachothers turns, and
2) Do not accuse eachother of spying on turns unless you're pretty sure, because it's a major pain in the arse.

I'd be sanctimonious about not uploading pretenders without passwords, except that I myself send in the wrong build (it's not a big deal, just a dominion scale shifted), so I'm hardly in any position to lecture people.

Thank you.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Sounds fair Dr Praetorius.

Just a bump to my previous question - is there any way to check game status without logging into the game itself? A website or something?

archaeolept September 15th, 2008 12:18 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

there was a little app made by wraithlord to check the status of all your IP games... "PyEye" - can find it in mods subforum.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Things seem to be mellowing out for me a bit now. I don't have to go to Tucson anytime soon, so I am available if anyone can make any use of me. I can sub in for Frank if he needs it, for example.

DrPraetorious September 15th, 2008 09:45 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Frank will probably need a sub for a few days when in route to Prague.

DrPraetorious September 16th, 2008 04:50 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Just in case anybody is having power issues - I have turned off the timer, the game is now on quickhost *only*.

If people are able to continue at >= 1 turn/day, that'd be much preferable! If someone isn't taking their turns, we can maybe assume they've lost internet access and we may have to do something about it?

Lingchih September 17th, 2008 01:50 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Could we please host? Only Atlantis is still out, and he has had plenty of time to do his turn.

DrPraetorious September 17th, 2008 10:04 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

I'm going to force host a turn. If Atlantis is gone, we should find a sub for at least a few turns.

Zeldor September 17th, 2008 10:17 AM

Game crashes [well, turns inactive and I see only empty map] when I try to end my turn.

The turn worked out just fine for me. Maybe its corrupted on transfer. Delete the TRN file and log in to get a new copy.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Hrrrm, If someone is taking a long time to take their turn how about letting their teammate do it for them. Should help keep things speeding along a little better.

I dont know if we wanted to allow teammates to look at each others turns or not but If we could let teammates do something for someone who is slow then that might help. I would only say, for a teammate not to do anything with their mates turn until they ARE running behind for some reason.

But if the concensus is for teammates not to look at each others turns then that might shoot that down, I dont know if that is allowed or not... ???

DrPraetorious September 17th, 2008 03:31 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

It's fine with me if team-mates look at one another's files, as long as people use more or less consistent IP addresses.

Don't look at your team-mates turn from some wandering IP range or hotel.

However, I'm worried about multiple turns being taken on the same CD key. If the dom3 server doesn't mind, I don't mind - as long as it doesn't become a habit. This *is* supposed to be a team game, and not a 1-player-2-nations game, after all.

As far as I know, 2 nations being played from 1 CD key can cause the game to mess up due to the games anti piracy measures.

So, is anyone playing Agartha? It doesn't look like anyone is.

AFAIK, Frank Trollman is playing Agartha. He hasn't been staleing, has he?

I've been busy with work and haven't been paying attention - if someone can give me quick, easy advice on how to turn on e-mail turn notifications (for those who want it), I'll do so, since I've been told Gandalf's server supports this.

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

We, the peaceful land of Ermor, find ourselves targetted by unprovoked aggression. Sacred hoplites of Pangea have marched into our quiet forrests unprovoked. While we are loathe to send the silent legions at this time, our hand seems forced.

To our more reasonable friends and neighbors, we hearby open a market of vibrant trade. Any who wish items such as skull mentors, champion's skulls, or any number of boosters should let us know post-haste. Our mages are standing by to process your requests. We will even let Jomon trade with us, as they have been kind enough to correct some of our cultists who were clearly doing it wrong.

Lingchih September 22nd, 2008 03:08 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Yes, we of Pangaea don't like the stench of you Ermor. We've decided to evict you from the neighborhood.

> Yes, we of Pangaea don't like the stench of you Ermor.

Look who's talking. You smell of mold and rotting carcasses!

Ershalim September 22nd, 2008 03:47 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

The people of Jomon stand by their decision to eradicate the cultists, and further would like to decree that Emrorians are in no way invited to their stuffed animal tea party happening later this year.

Without the leadership of Elore, who had gone on a bender and ended up with three extra years in Tartarus, the Jomon people often defer to their big brother nation of T'ien Ch'i when making decisions. In Ermor's case, they simply appeared and started robbing our graves -- we did what any self-respecting tattle tale little brother would do. We told TC and then threw a tantrum. You know, with horsies of death and mayhem!

Sadly, the whole experience has turned us off to the idea of an undead nation, so we fully support Pangaea's eviction.

Also? Jomon can make stuff too. So if you want the non-death and non-corpse-smelling stuff, get it from Jomon. You might even get invited to an imaginary tea party!

AreaOfEffect September 22nd, 2008 04:25 PM

The forges of Ulm hunger for Earth gems, please let us know if you have any that you would be interested in trading. We are also looking for a pair of flying boots.

Lingchih September 23rd, 2008 01:05 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Hmm. This looks grim. 300-500 undead converging on us (Pan). I didn't expect this kind of response. I can hold, but you others might want to consider taking on Ermor now, since he seems to be sending his full weight against me.

Unoptimized September 23rd, 2008 10:34 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

We are pleased to inform you that through creative dominion growth and our innovative construction projects we will be quite capable of defense. It is also our strong recommendation that all parties interested in visiting Ermorian territory strongly consider investment in food, as the land has been thoroughly processed. Considering the apparent prejudice against us, did you really think I would leave the means of production unguarded?

Lingchih September 25th, 2008 10:18 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

No worries about food mate, we Pan are pretty good at living off the land. Sometimes we just boil up a spare vine creature, and have vine creature stew. Tastes like crap, but it's very nutritious.

Ershalim September 25th, 2008 10:25 PM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

It's a great food source for horses, too. The people of Jomon frequently make vine people for the stables. Though sometimes they get a bit out of control and start abducting small children...

Lingchih September 26th, 2008 02:10 AM

Re: Revenge of Pimping - Let's go Voltron Force!

Pangaea is in need of an amulet of luck. We can pay in water gems. In fact, we can over-pay in water gems. PM me if you are interested. We would preferably like one that has already been forged, and can be sent this turn. But we will also trade for one that has to be forged.
