Do we have a place to post the stories?

Tifone January 20th, 2009 06:37 AM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

1.41 out! :) What about the stories?... for me we can write even here.

Ruminant January 20th, 2009 01:03 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Alrighty then, time to bam this thing out. I'll throw up the game shortly. As for stories.. The MA game has a nice, shiny wiki page at http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki?title...cles:Main_Page

I've never edited a wiki before so it could take me a while to figure out how to create a similar page for our game, unless someone more technically inclined than I would be so kind as to set something similar up ;)

Edit: Ooh, one last thing: Do we want score graphs off, for some more entertaining diplomacy game? My vote is yes ^^

Gandalf Parker January 20th, 2009 01:46 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

1.41? is that CBM? Should we all upgrade to that for this game?

Ruminant January 20th, 2009 01:49 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Ee'yup, Gandalf. I hear the 1.4 version has some typos and such so I'm starting with 1.41. We'll all have to upgrade.

Gandalf Parker January 20th, 2009 01:59 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

The initial post has many lacks. It does not link to the needed map and mods, it says current wiki then doesnt go there, and is the players list current? I see that my "you cant leave because of" is no longer listed.

I guess most of this is covered by the startgame page on Llamas server since he usually provides links to the mod and map

Ruminant January 20th, 2009 03:53 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I've thrown up the game, although the options are still up in the air if people want to change them.

Game Name on Llama Server: Chronicles_EA

Settings:
Age: EA
Map: Edi's Faerun Adventure Version
Mods: CBM 1.41
Host: Llamaserver. Initial hosting 48h quickhost, rapidly getting longer, probably to around 120h quickhost (per original instructions)
Players: 15
Score Graphs: Off
Hall of Fame: 15
Renaming: On
Everything else is default.
No special victory conditions. I guess we could make half/two thirds of the worlds capitals mandatory for victory if people really want.

CBM 1.41 found here: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=42022

Map found here: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?p=644059

The player list, as far as I know, is:
Arco ------------------ Radiogibbon
Ermor ----------------- MaxWilson
Mictlan --------------- Qio
Abysia ---------------- Soyweiser
C'tis ----------------- NKIan
Pangaea --------------- GP
Agartha --------------- Ruminant
R'lyeh ---------------- Incabulos
Kailsa/Oceania? ------- Tifone
Lanka ----------------- Wrana
Marveni --------------- Vanslime
Helheim --------------- Baalz
Atlantis -------------- Darkwind
Ulm ------------------- Jybalbyle
Sauromantia ----------- Mithras

The wiki for our writing is NOT currently up, as far as I know. The MA game's is at http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki?title...cles:Main_Page
I really haven't the faintest clue how to go about setting ours up. If noone is wiki-literate and able to help out then I'll see about learning how to do it, though don't expect quick results :p

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Vanslime has cast Summon Page

http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Chronicles_EA:Main_Page

You may express your gratitude through prayer, offerings, and virgin sacrifice.

...its pretty much a copy of the setup for the other game. I hope that won't be a problem.

And while it lists "Kailasa", should Tifone choose to go with Oceania after all, thats easily taken care of.

Darkwind January 20th, 2009 07:29 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I don't think it'll be a problem--this is pretty much a copy of Chronicles MA, after all. :p

Ooh! A prologue page! Does that mean I get to post a prologue for my nation? I've already got something cooking in my brain. :D

Gandalf Parker January 20th, 2009 08:35 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

At least it appears that I do not have to recreate my god. That would have ticked me off.

Tifone January 20th, 2009 09:16 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Yep I'll go Oceania :) Thanks for the page Vanslime!

I'll work on the Prologue and send the pretender tomorrow ;)

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Argh. I see there were a lot of edits the past two days, but I'll have to move things around a couple of times because the pages have been created as if there's a namespace for them although in fact there isn't one yet. :hurt:

The Wiki hasn't been officially announced yet, too, so I asked not to post links to it in public. But it seems that I won't have the time to work on it extensively anymore, so I'll just finish getting the Captcha stuff back on and announce it officially, even if it's rather much unfinished from what I had envisioned.

I didn't realize Riyleh EA didn't have the summoning void/gate that was going to be part of my story telling stichk.

Is it too late to change nations?

Since we have two sea nations at least there will be underwater competition anyway.

Ruminant January 21st, 2009 11:58 AM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

No worries Incabulos. Don't wanna get locked into writing for a nation that doesn't inspire you, after all! After our kindly landlord sorts out the devastation wrought on his Wiki you'll have to erect a statue or two to our local two-headed wiki deity though ;)

Gandalf Parker January 21st, 2009 12:04 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I may have messed the wiki up abit by changing the spelling of Pangaea and then having to fix the target pages for it to match. I think someone else changed their nations spelling also

Stop the works... :D A 1.42 version of the CBM is scheduled due to some bugs, says q_m.

hey Tifone, are you going to add the Dom3 songs to your sig? :)

Tifone January 21st, 2009 01:18 PM

Yep mr Gandalf! But before I have to find a way to reduce the sig size... Well maybe I'll just eliminate the flag, I'm pretty much ashamed of my country these days I can just take it away...
(btw, don't remember if I ever said to you... your signature is great! And I know on my skin it is totally true... :D )

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I shouldn't bother waiting for CBM1.42. The main difference seems likely to be removing LA Agartha's Air-8(!) commander. Being as none of you are playing LA Agartha that's not really important.

Tifone January 21st, 2009 01:26 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I thought q_m was going to implement some suggestions by wrana sombre & chris too... and that the 1.41 was giving problems to the llamaserver starting games... If I'm mistaken I'm sorry

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

I have moved some of the pages. I think we should go with the way that Wikipedia does disambiguation, I don't quite like prefixes. I'll leave it to the people that figured out how the Chronicles inclusion stuff works to keep all the pages updated.

Darkwind January 21st, 2009 06:51 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

As my wiki-fu is weak (and also I have no idea what do do with my little stories, other then just post them in the thread), I'll simply post my Prologue(tm) here and hope someone else does the thankless, back-breaking, unpaid wiki work for me.
---
The Basalt Kings gathered around the Dark Crystal as they had in ages past, searching for some truth in the near-black clouds in the crystal. Unlike in ages past, on this day, the Basalt Queens had joined the Kings in the great, dark room that held the Dark Crystal, which was not dark or cloudy, but clear and bright, and the Basalt Kings were staring intently not at unclear illusions with murky prophecies, but at one who thought himself a God to the Deep Ones.

"Young one--for young you must be--why do you seek to proclaim yourself the God of the Deep Ones? We are the Kings of the Deep, and no man has had his way in the black gorges where we live and will live."

"No man has had his way in your depths, and no man will have his way if you follow me. I am no mere man; I am a god."

"The Deep Ones have been, and the Deep Ones will be. You have said that you are our only hope, but we have seen into the heart of the Dark Crystal, and the Deep Ones are not destined to die."

"Your shore-dwellers will live, my dear King of the Deep, but the Basalt City will fall. You have seen that, I know. But, know also this--the future is not immutable. Join me, and I promise you, the Basalt City will stand, tall enough to pierce the top of the ocean, and the Deep Ones will survive. Join me, and I promise the Basalt Kings riches beyond belief and time to use the Dark Crystal for peace, not for war; join me and I promise the Basalt Queens dominion over all the world and vast congregations to hear your sermons. Send me away, and your enemies will give you death, and the Basalt City will fall. Refuse me, and the Atlantians will become simply another race to be conquered. Make your choice: live, or die."

Within the day, Atlantians were sent out in every direction to carry the news: All hail Critias, Prince of the Deeps! All hail the new God of the Deep Ones!

Huh, I thought this would be kind of long. It wasn't too long, really.

Hi,

I want to be able to rename characters once the game has started. There seems to be an option to do this, but I cannot get it to work.

Any help, please?

Tifone January 23rd, 2009 09:03 AM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Normal procedure is: The commander you want to rename, click on him with right mouse button to get his personal screen. Then just press "r" and write his new name in the popup :)
You cannot rename pretenders, prophets and commanders in the HoF

Does it work? Or you were asking for something else and I didn't understand? :o

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Just to let you all know I'll be away from Saturday until Monday, in case everyone sends in their pretenders then gets out their torch and pitchforks when the game hasn't started. Rest assured first thing I'll do when I get home is to check and see if we're ready to launch :D

Where did Yomi come from?!

I'm assuming that's Incabulos' new choice of nation.

Not me, I haven't submitted yet. Was going for Fomoria but still playing. Am I the only one left to submit? I thought we were waiting for a fix to CBM

Hopefully the cbm fix wont cause a problem. It does contain a version number as one of its commands.

A pity. And thank you for discussion, at least.

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

By the way, it seems from the way MA game progresses that it was a good idea to have a placeholder nation to reward for well-written stories - or some other incentive. There are many who don't write after the beginning - particularly a pity in Hoburg case where the prologue was very good... :(

Darkwind January 25th, 2009 10:26 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Why are you leaving, Gandlaf?! :(

Also, I didn't know that we were getting incentives for good storytelling. I'll be sure to do only my best (and by best I mean write late at night after drinking enough caffeine to poison small children). :)

The original Hoburg player in the MA game went awol after playing four or five turns. Several stales later I took over on turn nine, and I don't really know how to use the wiki or anything, so I decided to abstain from posting rp for the player I replaced.

We don't. Which seems the problem's root. But feel free to write up nevertheless. ;)

Tifone January 26th, 2009 05:43 AM

I don't think we need incentives. This is a game for people which like and enjoy writing stories. The writing is part of the fun of the game, if someone doesn't like to write stories can play another game and freely read what ppl in this game wrote. Simple as that. :)

Also it would be hard to 1) give ingame incentives (what do we do, we autotax ourselves and send money to the good writer? what's the thematic reason of that?), and 2) decide which writes the best - we all have different tastes regard of writing styles, form, etc. I.e. in the MA game all the stories are good and enjoyable and the ones I personally prefer are of Caelum's and T'ien Ch'i, but other people may prefer different styles and I think it wouldn't be fair to decide on majority :o

hEad January 26th, 2009 07:11 AM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

llamabeast mentioned in another thread that you need someone to take over for Gandalf dropping out?

Still the case?

Ruminant January 26th, 2009 11:12 AM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

It looks like it, hEad, and we'd be glad to have ya. It looks like Pangaea is free now, as well as Kailasa and Ry'leh, although it seems Incabulos has Fomoria. And of course whatever nations noone picked in the list a few pages back.

Just to check, the person using Yomi -is- someone from this thread and just decided to change their nation, right? Just making sure it's not someone sending the wrong file by accident or applying to the wrong game.

Regarding a nation that rewards good/regular writing - ehhh... Unless we all get a set payout at set intervals for submitting a piece of writing, or say everyone votes every X turns to reward the player who's writing they've enjoyed the most over that period, then it would be almost impossible to distribute fairly due to the different opinions we'd all have the matter. Also it would require a fair bit of work editing the map to stop a 'free' capital being snapped up by someone. If enough people want to have it we can work something out, otherwise I'll take the lazy way out :angel

As for the CBM fix I'm easy either way. I don't think it has any glaring errors for our era. If it comes out in the next few days I'll definately use it. Your not the last to apply Incabulos, we're waiting on four more pretenders ;)

BigandScary January 26th, 2009 12:40 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

If you have several spots open I would also be interested in joining. Arew there still spots? If pangea is open I would prefer that, but I will take anything.

Wrana January 26th, 2009 01:24 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Yes, I like Tien Chi and Caelum, too - with not the least of reasons being that they post regularly! :) R'lyeh, while more rare, also keeps it up.
And I believe Gandalf told something about how incentives can be organized at the beginning of the other thread. Of course, I can live without them - but maybe with reduced output... ;)
Considering CBM fix - I think there is an error with one of Marverni Pretenders being assigned somewhere else. But as Marverni Pretender was already sent it may be ignored... Don't remember what were other serious mistakes.

Tifone January 26th, 2009 01:53 PM

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Pangaea free?? Lol, lol, wait :o Is there a way to remove my pretender? I'd love to give a try to EA Pangaea instead of Oceania :D

EDIT: Ops I swear, didn't see BigandScary's post. I'll stick to my fish&chips :p

Sure BigandScary, I think we can squeeze you in ;)

Pangaea is free as far as I know unless hEad wanted to take them over for Gandalf, in which case first come first served I'm afraid. I've upped our player count to 16.

Re: Chronicles_EA: Second-pass Signup and Discussion

Stopping in for the WPP chat tonite and I caught up on this thread.

Dont just take over for me unless you REALLY want it. Send in your own Pangaean god. Mine is far from optimum for the CBM mod. I was going to have a rough time with him. Particularly in role playing as the human hater. No human indepts, no human mercs, no human allies.

But I will miss having fun with peoples titles. I was going to hold them to the epithets they got when they created their pretenders. Why would I have anything to do with a pretender whose titles included Duke of Corruption, or God of Fraud and Theft, or Patron of Liars?
