Still no sign of TNN, you guys must be really beating on him.

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

And I decided to go easy on him and pound on Pythium instead. Oh well.

Did TNN stale the last turn?

Quell January 5th, 2011 06:38 PM

Yeah, he did

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Hey, Cerlin, if you're still reading this thread. Ya, it sucks, you got hinnomed. Greater men have fell to lesser things. But there's always another game, and people really appreciate those who play to the bitter end. Personally, when I lose (ok so that's one whopping time but this is a god damn newbie game so what do you expect) I just try to **** over the next best competition to whoever ruined my day by sending gems, trying for a last crippling strike (ok i only wish i could have done that but i got totally raped), whatever. Or just die with grace, or just barely put up a fight and hit end turn. Whatever. But people still really appreciate that, and it's better than getting a reputation as someone who flakes out as soon as they lose a battle. So use whatever crazy glitter fairy troops you have and sneak around and screw someone over or whatever. I dunno, maybe I'm kinda drunk. But still, don't just stale out, remember that there are 8 other people playing this game!

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

I hope this isn't going to be a trend, going AI is the coward's way out, even if you are getting eaten by Hinnom. Perhaps we should pledge not to go AI if we're losing?

freepower January 6th, 2011 09:33 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

I wish I felt like the unstoppable death machine people are claiming I am. :P

Hinnom is a friendly neighbour with a big appetite, but he keeps his NAPs.

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Actually the game can have a "players cannot go AI" lock on it.
Its one of the choices of the person running the game can add to the game settings. If a player goes AI it stops everything and gives the person running the game a chance to back out of it to get a sub instead, or allow it to go thru.

iRFNA January 6th, 2011 07:20 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Ya, I didn't pick that option to save you at least some of the micromanagement troubles. I figure that, with a good faith system, someone will only go AI when they are truly and utterly doomed. So that it won't make much of a difference whether there is a player at the helm or not. Whether or not that is the case, I have no idea.

Obviously, I'd prefer that people play to the bitter end. It's what I intend to do. And I think all the current players have been fairly active in this thread, and that bodes well on the whole "bailing for no reason" front. I'll just say again like I did earlier, if you want to quit but there may somehow be something to salvage, say so in the thread and let me find a sub!

Hehe, Cerlin's not making a hash of fighting to the bitter end anyway. XD

Hey, don't dirty his wells, there's Mind Lords hiding in there. Also possibly some under his bed.:)

I will try to restore my reputation and fight to the bitter end when it is my turn to be crushed.

iRFNA January 6th, 2011 10:29 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

The Mind Lords can't get me as long as my legs don't hang over the edge of the bed. Right?

...right?...

I think that's what they want you to think.

Or, worse yet, that they want me to think you think. >.>

The obvious solution is to simply cease to think altogether.

Starting...

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Sometimes you can surprise yourself fighting to the bitter end... I repelled Fomoria's first assault (although I sadly didn't entirely destroy his army the way I had planned)! Still looking for someone... anyone... please... to jump on him and take advantage of his distraction!

iRFNA January 8th, 2011 05:25 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

45 minutes to go until staling... Peacekeeper is taking his name a little too seriously, I think.

Admiral_Aorta January 8th, 2011 07:24 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Did he stale the last turn? He doesn't seem to be losing or anything.

Ya, he staled.

Maybe it was just real life. Hot date went better than expected or summat. ^_^

Btw, Cerlin's fighting like a beast! I commend you sir, for your mighty fighting spirit and your well scripted mages. Perhaps some day we'll all be speaking TNN. :P

iRFNA January 8th, 2011 07:38 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

lol, I guess that's one thing the AI has going for it, it's relentlessness

Woah, everyone is playing their turns quickly. 6/8 already

edit: Haha, I just saw a battle report of what I think you are talking about, freepower. False fetters + sleep cloud of doom

freepower January 8th, 2011 08:03 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Yarp. I'm glad someone saw that epic battle because that was intense.

What's crazy is, I was defending. I think I outnumbered him 2 to one. With GIANTS. And he attacked. That's not relentless, that's awesome! :O

iRFNA January 8th, 2011 08:14 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Perhaps it could serve as an example of the sort of risky move that can alter a seemingly hopeless situation...

freepower January 8th, 2011 08:16 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Still pretty hopeless, I hope.

If not, I may have to follow his example soon enough. :P

Don't forget to upload your turn, peacekeeper!

Peacekeeper January 11th, 2011 12:24 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

watching these fights is frustrating. My armies would win if the commanders just kept throwing lightning bolts ... but they stop and summon units that cant get to the front line anyway.

iRFNA January 11th, 2011 12:55 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Maybe if they're closer? I know lightning bolt has high precision, but I remember reading somewhere that the AI will prefer to avoid casting spells that have a chance of hitting friendlies... Of course, I've seen the AI do some stupid stuff with AE spells, so I dunno.

lwarmonger January 11th, 2011 04:04 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Yeah, both armies were substantially smaller this turn... but Fomoria's castle was still besieged. Interesting stuff! As long as you aren't fighting your way through my capital it is all good.

krpeters January 12th, 2011 07:42 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Just a reminder -- if you're the last person to play a turn, when you're finished, give the server a minute, and then play your next turn right away.

freepower January 12th, 2011 08:22 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Thanks for the reminder. :P

Also, starting to really enjoy the unknown unknowns factor involved in this game.

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

I don't seem to be getting emails about new posts in this thread anymore, even though I'm still subscribed. Anyone know why? I see Bogarus's prince of death has gotten feebleminded somewhere along the line.

lwarmonger January 13th, 2011 03:29 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Ouch... that's a rough one.

iRFNA January 13th, 2011 03:11 PM

Giant lightning bolts, my only weakness. How did you know?

Peacekeeper January 13th, 2011 04:03 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

they wouldnt keep casting lightning bolts to win me the previous fights, so i went bigger.

Admiral_Aorta January 15th, 2011 06:47 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

I really have to wonder why Vanheim is spending all his money on province defense instead of actual troops.

freepower January 15th, 2011 07:05 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Newbie game? :P

NaivePhilosopher January 16th, 2011 12:38 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Having had dealings with Vanheim, I feel confident in saying that, in addition to province defense, he also has a fairly large number of troops. These are in our collective neighborhood, in fact, Admiral.

Admiral_Aorta January 16th, 2011 01:38 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Ah, thanks for the tip. :) Though I think Bogarus may be responsible for the seeming lack of troops.

Quell January 16th, 2011 05:54 AM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Nah i'm not :). The only encounters i had with Vanheim are loosing my scouts to his high province defence

krpeters January 16th, 2011 03:44 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

High PD is very effective against the AI... I'll find out whether it is effective against humans.

And yes, I have plenty of real troops. Or at least had -- I'm still waiting for the battle report between my troops and some hydras.

NaivePhilosopher January 16th, 2011 04:19 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Not that I'm biased or anything, but I'm rather hoping that it's 'had.' >.>

Admiral_Aorta January 16th, 2011 04:57 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Come on C'tis, you're going to stale soon.

iRFNA January 16th, 2011 06:21 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Less than an hour to go... Of course, there's not a whole lot for c'tis to do, so I doubt a single stale would be very harmful.

iRFNA January 16th, 2011 07:46 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

this is basically what is happening at the black alps

krpeters January 16th, 2011 07:52 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

Well, I won't pretend that didn't hurt, but I have plenty more where that came from.

On the bright side, my upkeep is a bit easier now :)

NaivePhilosopher January 16th, 2011 08:26 PM

Re: NewbsGoneWild: Uninhibited amateur action! [Call no man happy until he is dead]

I now have quite a few limp hydras, though I'm not entirely sure how hydras actually limp. In any case, that went a bit better than I actually expected, all things considered. It wasn't particularly pleasant for me either, however.
