llamaserver is back online. I hope no one staled.

We all just got turn 45 but the server thinks we already sent .2h files. If not thanks to waiting for Itza's turn we'd all have sateld. See:

Kudos to the Lizardmen emperor for extracting a heavy toll for each centimeter of territory lost.

Guys, alas Aethyr will not be able to cont. playing. His computer is broken and he will not be able to fix it anytime soon :(

Since we're so few left I think each is crucial and going AI may have a strong negative impact on the game.
That is why I'll add some extensions to allow time for finding a sub.

A sub would be much better than an AI at this stage of the game. I've been trying to interest people on IRC, but no one has bit yet.

I staled because it hosted unexpectedly last night. That doesn't make me very happy, especially considering I'm in a war.

I do need to talk to whomever the new skaven player ends up being before i actually take my turn.

I'd appreciate a rollback if this can be accomplished without issue. I know, rollbacks suck, but this stale wasn't my fault.

" so 5 days added which brings us 05:24 GMT on Saturday so the time was right, it just that quick host was off so AFAIK it shouldn't have hosted.

re. roll back. I'm not at war so I don't mind, nor effected, as player. As admin. I really object to roll backs, the mere option of rollback can bring a lot of noise & arguments.
However, considering that there's a big war going on and that an entire side, comprised of three nations, has staled there's certainly reason to roll back.
A possible problem is that the stalers can see the non staler moves and counter them. This will give them an unfair advantage, unless perhaps the non staler could also resend his turn.
I'm not sure what's the right thing to do and I'd really appreciate everyone's opinions.

I guarantee skaven hasn't looked at his turn. =P

You as much as said you were extending again in thread, so there was no reason to expect it to host last night.

As for rollback I think the circumstances warrant one. I'd just like to hear the other players out before making such a decision. At least Catquiet's since he's the one standing to lose most from this.

let's put it that way. We will rollback unless some solid argument is made against it during the next 24 hours.

I suppose. I'm going to go ahead and delete the new turn email - i can request a resend if we end up playing it, and that way i can't look at it ever if we rollback.

All, please ignore the current turn and delete the.trn and .h if you already D/Led it.
Edit: If you already sent your turn the first time around I think there's no need to resend. You could resend just in case.
If you staled then use the new turn #57 to play your turn.

It should be out fairly soon.

Edit2: for all the rollback hassle & skaven sub hunt I'll give another 4d extension.

Here's the detailed explanation from the server:

This will cause the game to return to the previous turn.

Note that I generally recommend not doing this. The main reason for this is the fact that players have already seen the current turn, and so they know what would happen given the set of moves they used last time. Hence, consciously or not, they are very likely to use this information to change their actions next time they submit a turn. Even assuming none of the players' actions are affected, there will always be a suspicion in the mind of the other players if battles turn out significantly differently. Therefore just in the interest of having the game feel completely fair, I think rollbacks are a bad idea.

A further reason is a difficulty with game file confusion. Imagine turn 10 has just come out, and someone starts to play the turn. Then the game is rolled back to turn 9, and processed again to make a new turn 10. Unless players delete the 2h file they produced from the original turn 10, Dominions will not know to ignore it and may get seriously confused. This can cause a lot of madness, e.g. soldiers becoming commanders and gaining magic paths, and so on. So if you do do a rollback, make sure to remind players to delete their 2h files.

Having said that, there are situations where rollbacks are called for, which is why I've included the option here.

Read this next bit carefully. I seem to be having difficulties explaining it coherently:

Note that once the game is rolled back, it will appear that the game is waiting for 2h files from all players. However, the 2h files from last time the turn was played will in fact be there, and will be used if the game hosts without them being overwritten. This can be useful; often, a game is rehosted in order for only one or two players to retake their turns, while everyone else is expected to make no changes. The game admin can therefore wait till just those players have submitted, and then force hosting. None of the other players will stale (assuming they actually submitted a 2h file last time the turn was played).

There's no sub for skaven yet. I think we've waited enough and regrettably I am forced to turn it to AI. I will do so this time tomorrow unless one magically comes.
I'm sorry but I'd rather lose one nation than forfeit the game by keeping it stuck forever.

And to all who staled, I kindly remind you to send your turns. As I said, there will not be a 2nd rollback (unless the 1st one screws things up badly).

Let's get this game rolling again.

Catquiet, did you see evidence of Skaven not being AI?- As in doing nothing?
I sent a turn to the server with the turn AI command. It should have caught.

BTW, does anyone have any idea why Stagger Lee staled?- He actually staled once, then we rolled back and waited a lot and he staled again. has he gone AWOL?

The llamaserver says "Skavenblight Waiting for 2h file" and it is still listed as human in pretenders of the world. I thought those would have changed when it was switched to AI.

I'm not AWOL, I thought it wasn't hosting til the 17th. I got a little busy, and wasn't checking every day. And the rollback wasn't for me, I hate those things. My turns aren't quick and my ally in this war can't continue. Oh well ...

Catquiet, I checked and you're right. It turns out I can't send the turn AI command from my laptop. The server rejected my command due to some CD key violation error, I assume it resents the fact that I sent both Bretonn & Skaven turns with same key.

I actually have two dom disks (yes, I bought it once more to support IW), however my other computer died long ago. I will ask another player to do so.

Is it just me or did the rollback started messing everybody's turns?

I see commanders appearing and disappearing, same for items. It's not all over the place but I seem to notice that things are not quite as I left them.

This seems to be the fuzziest part of the rollback process. If the old 2h is present, the game adds to it. If that 2h is from a turn that was rolled back, some unit ids are different. If that 2h is then further built upon, the id conflicts propagate.

If no old 2h is present, an entirely new one is created. If all players delete the old 2h, the risk of conflicting ids is greatly reduced, if not eliminated. Or so I've heard ...

I tried that (deleting the .2h file). It doesn't help.
Looks like something in the .trn or ftherlnd DNA is screwed due to rollback, hence I see strange stuff like for example my knights converting into maidens and vice versa and more twilight zone stuff.

Make me question the decision to rollback, but well what's done is done.

Llamaserver has been kind of schizophrenic about sending me turns for some other games as well in the last week. *shrug*?
