Re: Llamaserver troubles
Looks like everything is stuck again. It wont recognize any of the turns I send in.

Re: Llamaserver troubles
Server is still stuck :(
Llama is doing a great service and I don't have enough words to thank him. However recently the server's spells of no service are becoming increasingly annoying. Enough so that I'm seriously considering manually hosting the next game I admin. I wish shrapnel would pay llama and give him all the equipment and infrastructure he needs so we have a more robust server. Llama, don't take it the wrong way. I know you have a life and many important things to do besides baby sitting the server voluntarily. So again thank you so much!!! |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
+1.
Thx Llama |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
+1, it really is a great service that he's providing.
Just a quick question for Llama, how averse are you to sharing the code you've used for the Llamaserver? There's got to be someone out there that might be able to dedicate more time to keeping a server up, or someone willing to spend the time migrating the entire thing to a more robust solution. More robust solution seems like the best option. Given the heavy use of the Llama server, doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility for the entire Dom3 community could come up with the couple hundred bucks to get a dedicated amazon web services server instance. Not sure what sort of computing power the Llamaserver currently has, but I'm guessing it's just an old CPU in Llamas basement. We could easily get the same performance in something that wouldn't shut off every other week for about $350. I'm definitely do not have either the savy to pull this off or the time to teach myself how, but I'd certainly be willing to contribute some money towards the cause. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Agreed with everyone who has previously thanked Llama. Voluntarily hosting the server that has allowed us all to play Dominions together for years is an effort that goes beyond mere thanks, and I can't express enough gratitude for his efforts.
I'm with Torgon in that I don't have any technical savvy that would be required to host a more robust Dominions infrastructure, but I would be willing to contribute financially to such an effort. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
There's a pay-pal option on Llama Server...

Re: Llamaserver troubles
Sorry about the downtime guys.
The problem this time was that the fuse flipped when my housemate turned the toaster on, so it turned the server off, and I didn't notice that it had gone off for more than 24 hours till Bullock PMed me. You see it emails me when it has problems, but it can't email me when it's off. So it's always appreciated when people let me know if there are problems. I will think about how I can improve robustness. I really appreciate the offers of financial help, however that's not really the problem. Every time it goes down it is for some random reason (like this one). I guess maybe a hosted solution would be good, so that it wouldn't suffer from internet/power outages. But I think perhaps it might be quite expensive? I don't really know how such things work - anyone have any experience? All I'd really need is ssh access to a linux box. |

Small Instance (Default) 1.7 GB of memory, 1 EC2 Compute Unit (1 virtual core with 1 EC2 Compute Unit), 160 GB of local instance storage, 32-bit platform Works out to about $115 a year. + Run time fees of $.03 per hour. Set it up to run a few hours a day (3) to process turns for an even $150 a year. Obviously, it would be a lot for one person to pony up. But given the number of people who use it, I'm sure we could drum up some interest. Heck, I'd throw in $50 right now if we got enough to set it up from other people. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
I'd be willing to contribute $50 as well.
I also have quite a bit of experience managing barely supportable applications in an IT environment, so if you need help setting any of this stuff up or managing it, I'd be willing to help. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
i can scrape up a $20 spot. llama, i don't know you, but thanks for all of your efforts. i think it's funny that when the server goes down everyone(including me) frets, but it was because of a TOASTER!! i mean, my efforts and struggles to bring Ulm to supremecy thwarted by...Toast!!
well, i thought it was funny |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Greetings,
I am unable to access Lllamaserver at all, does anyone know whats going on? |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Hello all,
Thanks for the heads up. I can't get to the website either! The server itself is fine, but the website/email provider (hostgator.com) seems to have stopped working just now. I'm currently in a queue for IM chat with their technical support. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Seems there's something wrong with server domain?
|
Re: Llamaserver troubles
seem server has return to normal~

Re: Llamaserver troubles
The DNS service had expired, and since it's five years(!) since I set it up they had the wrong email address for me. Took me a while to remember anything about it in fact. Anyway, it's working again now. Apparently it can take 24-48 hours for the restored DNS to "propagate" but it's already working for me - let me know if it's not for you.

Re: Llamaserver troubles
Greetings good people, and you, oh charitable Llamabeast.
A visitor from Bay12 I am, where a tradition of dominions 3 games continues to prosper nurtured by yours truly, among others. Some three years and seven games it has been, all this time our small community enjoyed the welcoming embrace of llamaserver, whose readiness to host our games and reliability allowed us to enjoy the game to the fullest. It is only fair to heap praise at the feet of Llama for providing such service. Today, however, I have to ask for a more direct intervention from the gracious woolly camelid, for our latest game Bay12Round7andaHalf encountered the same kind of problem as the one described in the first post of this thread. That is, after an ill-advised rollback(after all this time I should've learned not to do them anymore, alas) the server expects turn 47 files, while sending out turn 46s. We are wary of allowing the game to stall in the hope of it fixing itself, as it seems probable that the problem will carry over to the next turn. Llamabeast, I hate to bother you with this, the more so being a stranger to these forums, but if you could sacrifice a bit of your precious time to have a look at that, we'd all be (even more) grateful. Humbly, Il Palazzo. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Hi Il Palazzo,
Glad to hear about your Bay12 community and that you've been making use of the llamaserver! You are extremely welcome. :) I've just fixed the turn number error. It was a bit lucky I saw this post - if you ever need help again just email me on llamabeast@... (where ... is llamaserver.net). Cheers, llama |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Llama, you're a star. Such a quick response!
I'll be sure to contact you directly next time something pops up, not that I believe it'll happen any time soon. Once again, ta and have a good one. |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
I tried to submit my turn of a game to the server through "turns@llamaserver.net", but it seemed my mails were always sent to the "pretenders@llamaserver.net" instead.
Is there something wrong with the server now? |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
Oh, sorry, the server is fine, I submited the wrong file.

Re: Llamaserver troubles
Dear Llamabeast,
The server appears to be stuck at 9:04 GMT Saturday, both for our current Wetfoot13 game and for all others, no longer accepting savegame uploads. My Aboleths are sad and (silently) screaming in frustration (Aboleths are such crybabies). Please, of the goodness of your heart, save the Mind Lords before it makes them sick. ...hmm, I need a sick or alternatively sad Aboleth smily. Any graphically adept reader capable of providing one? :D |
Re: Llamaserver troubles
The server is up and running again.
Thanks. :) |
All times are GMT -4. The time now is 03:22 PM. |
