Oh dear, he has returned…

Tigga, glad you had a good trip. Never fear, I will do my best to take offense at whatever you say and come across as thin skinned and ill humored. Seriously, don’t take me seriously. And if you really did buy a Honeymoon Suite album, well, you deserve everything you get.

Actually, I was just going from something you had said. Something about Lasting no longer in the game than a brownie in a furnace? I had just extrapolated a great Axis of Goodness which aimed to cleanse the universe of Tigga. Perhaps I was wrong and it will be a Great Coalition to Destroy August Imperialist Empires and I will go faster than a snowball in the same furnace. Then again, that year of wisdom that this young buck has on you might make all the difference...

a bit harsh, it is always nice to re-live the shadier parts of the 1980's by putting on my old Nightranger, Honeymoon Suite and Steve Vai CD's

nothing wrong with the 1980's, a great time especially as I was in my teens and full of sloshing hormones. Some people are obviously still stuck in the 80's - hmmmmm, I havn't heard from the Guffin for a couple of hours!

Saxon, you can try to wind me up all you want but I have promised Mrs GT to be nice to Canadians and other under-privelaged peoples. After all, any race that produced something like Lee Aaron needs all the help it can get.

Please dont show your age by answering that one

PS on a serious note, I am very sorry to hear about your holiday - can they do that to you? dont you have contractual rights to holidays? that is a complete swine

Hmm, that looks suspiciously like a lawyer looking for a labour law case… More seriously, everything related to the US government overseas (we are sub-contractors to State) has been more than a little upset since September 11. They have finally came out with a plan and we need to jump. I could go on leave, but I would be shafting my staff, the program and my career. It was my choice, but it is one that I should not have had to make if things had been better planned Stateside.

I am heading out for the night, enjoy yourself.

Folk within the services, please correct me if I’m wrong. I believe this is from the Air Force and / o Navy.
Bogie – Unidentified and presumed to be a threat
On my six – Behind me or “On my tail”. Needless to say, an enemy fighter on tail puts you under a lot of uncomfortable preasure.
Wingman – A friendly fighter air craft part of whose mission is to “cover the tail of the leader” ie: Keep the bogies off of it
In my case, I have a ton of work to get done and I’m under the gun to get it done today. I have no assistance. * shrug * The bogies I can out run, I’ll out gun.

Re: Gryphin and Growltigga Thread

Gryphin's Fyre, I thank you for your generous offer. Mrs M. is a pro, however, her comment was more like, "serves you right, you enjoyed yourself a little to much on those sites", even tho I explained it was strictly for scientific research and to perform an unobjective view upon the guilt or innocense of allegations against one of our honorable members brought before the court, and asked her to help in my theraputic therapy in regards to overcoming my current condition. (I can't print what her response was to this request.) (However, I have deep suspicion she was enjoying the break in activities, sigh) Alas, I must suffer alone and in blissful peace with only my lovely Grand-daughter showing concern for her Bud. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Tesco,

I agree, Enron appears to be a hush hush situation, my opinion only, probably involves a lot of big fish and is more then likely bigger then Watergate was, What we need is some good investigative reporters to get in there and let us know exactly what's going on. Don't see that much in the papers on it and yet more affecting then watergate. hmmmm

Growltigga,

Greetings and Salutations, good to have you back, hope you didn't strain yourself too much while enjoying the sights http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And I have a good number of friends that are Lawyers, In fact, in my current hotseat game, 1 is a lawyer, another a minister and the 3rd member is retired.

Saxon,

Just because I'm older, mature, respectable, modest, scientific, dashing, swauve, humble and shy, I thank you for the complement of elder. However, even though I play SEIV quite a bit both SP and in Hot Seat, I have never played a PBW game. Therefore, I am a newbie in this area and defer you to one of the veterans like Tesco, Phoenix D, Mephisto(if he's still talking to me, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif ) or one of the others as far as setting up and hosting the actual game. I'm afraid they will have to help me get the hang of PBW.

I remember someone saying a 48hr turn time, I have no problem with that if its agreeable to everyone else. We also need to know who all wants to be in the game, as well as, the number of AI, settings, etc. I can help set this part up just by everyone posting their wishes on this thread or leave it up to whomever wants to host it.

BUT, as far as dialoge goes and setting up your race, I just thought we could at least start getting into it by designing our various races and begin a role playing dialoge here within this thread in addition to our normal banter, to hype everyone and see what dastardly deeds, threats, or mayhem develops among us players, could be quite fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Gryphin, If as we hope, M'Lady is indeed a seperate entity of the opposite sex, Does she play SEIV and would she like to join in?

Example of possible dialoge:

To; Your most Furry and most Bodacious Hive Leader "Tiggles" of the Tigga Collective,

We, the Tkachik Federation, who are the most humble and peaceful of races, have observed your most hideous looking spawn, cruising thru our Attica System. We must insist that you remove your cat-tails at once or suffer the indignity of being throughly trounced by our superior and valiant naval forces. If you have sufficient reason to enter our beloved realm of influence, be so thoughtful as to submit in writing, which must be in triplicate and signed by responsible co-signers, your repulsive explanation as to this most inexcusable violation of our space.

Greetings!

a few comments...

Mr. Tiggles...
As to the recent Posts sounding a bit medieval, if you read my profile you would see that I play an Online Role playing game... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif thus the medieval type speak.. it's a habit I have and it is VERY hard to break with tradition.. as you being british would understand completely. I apologize if my choice of verbal communication is a bit archaic and offends but then again.. 'tis who I am.

I do have a thought for you though, in reference to the "pay you" part of one of your Posts.. I don't really know how your wife would feel about you casting aspersions toward any womans line of work seeing as it clearly states I am a Graphic Art Tech in my profile.. need new specs? or, do you suggest that I am being paid by Sir Gryphin to be an ONLINE compatriot? Hmmm.. makes one wonder...either way suggests you may need to re-evaluate where you spend your free time such as in bars in spain oggling the wait staff in front of Mrs. Tiggles. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif If in your dotage you carry the same actions of your youth, "sloshing hormones" and all, Mrs. Tiggles has her hands full and has my blessings. Perhaps you would bode well to have a clear head when in battle, putting the hormones in a jar, tightly sealed and waxed tight.

Saxon
As for Roses... perhaps Sir Gryphin can elaborate on the "bed of Roses" he presents to me when I do see him. He is kind enough to remove Most of the thorns for me as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Dear Mac
I unfortunately battle on different grounds than SEIV. Orcs, Ice trolls, Deamons and the like are my foe, although I tend to stick to my crafting and magery. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I am tempted to particpate but I am not as well versed in strategy as some are here, and would never assume to be as good as to play on the same field as you or your companions here.

Be well and safe journey to you all.

Yes, that was the total ambit of my suggestion. Please do not think I was implying that your good character had any sort of commercial negotiability to it

As a separate point, "GT", "Tigga", "Growltigga" and "Tigs" I can handle, "Tiggles" is a step too far down the beatrix potter lane

Mrs GT is well aware of the attractions in Spain. She spends her time shopping in Zara and Arrarat - I spend mine having a cafe american in the Zahara bar on the Gran Via in Madrid watching the scenery and admiring the local architecture - mobile and otherwise

[quote] If in your dotage you carry the same actions of your youth, "sloshing hormones" and all, Mrs. Tiggles has her hands full and has my blessings.[quote]

You actually do have my undivided unqualified sympathy on this. To: The self styled anachronostic El-Supremo of the Tkachik Federation,

Thank you for your message which we naturally have disregarded and treated with the complete contempt it so rightly deserves. We can only assume that it is your advanced years and lack of suitable rheumatism cream that makes you act in such an uncivilised manner.

What sort of ludricrous pomposity makes your empire consider that we would submit anything in triplicate to you in order to seek consent or waste paper which could be more usefully employed as toilet roll.

Why would the glorious Tigga Confederation seek consent from an empire that sounds like us wretching up furballs?

In respect of your accusation that we have intruded on the Attica system, you should be aware, as is all galactic civilisation, that the Attica system is assigned to us as our ancient litter tray. If you wish to live in the catsan, you are most welcome but do not be surprised if we then leave a few Messages there. And as for 'hideous looking spawn', we are cats, we are cool, we look good doing anything.

Your 'valiant and superior naval forces' have as much chance of trouncing the glorious fleets of the Tigga Confederation as you do of winning Miss Universe.

We suggest you get a life, get some style and keep out of the cat's way

Grrrrrr

Regards

Growltigga I, the indisputable top cat of the Tigga Confederation and glorious holder of the Officer Dibble award

Re: Gryphin and Growltigga Thread

Guff, I do reccomend these books to you most wholeheartily.

Start with "Sundiver" or "Startide Rising" and then follow the books in order.

Excellent ideas from a very good author. The basis galactic concept is that all the galactic races are dividied into clans of which several major races are "patrons" who have "uplifted" "client" races

what this means is anti-darwinism, basically, a sentient but non-sapient race is discovered by a spacefaring race who then adopts them (and becomes their patron) and over the next few thousand years, genetically modifies them (uplifts) to increase intelligence and makes them a spacefaring race. The subject race then becomes a client of the patron race for 100 thousand years and it is then allowed to go its own way.

Central to the books was that humans were not uplifted by a patron race but were evolved on their own. Before first contact, they had also genetically modified chimps and dolphins to intelligence.

Excellent idea, excellent books, damn fine reading material for the bog

oh right, you are still studying law - that explains why you were writing up a verdict http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

here in England, law takes a 3-4 year degree, 1 year at law school and then 2 years training at which you are then officially qualified - I am now 5 years post qualification experience so I can give you this advice - DONT DO IT - go and work in McDonalds instead, it is more fun.

The Tandu are nasty in the sense that you don't want to meet one in a dark alley. Or a light alley. Or anywhere for that matter. They're totally insensitve to losses- they use "engines" that give them a massive manuevering advantage, but occasionally blow up, taking the ship with them. Also using reality-warping weaponry, which is pretty unpredicable. One shot might turn the target into antimatter, another send clowns running down the hallways and through bulkheads. It's also mentioned in the book that the Terrans never beat the Tandu, even when the odds were in their favor.

Their clients are even weirder though.

Like the Epsiarchs. A sentient biological weapon? Ow. For those not familar with the books, an Epsiarch is a "psi adept" of extreme power. If one looks at you and decides you shouldn't be there, you AREN'T there any more. In one book, they were used to make a bridge by denying that the water underfoot existed at all. They use this same talent to power the "engines" the Tandu use. They're also insane..

Phoenix, I knew there was something about you I really liked and it must be that you are a fellow afficiondo of David Brin.

That is pretty much a good summary of the Tandu but I should point out for Guff that in addition to all the above, the Tandu themselves were as bad as bad gets. Imagine a nine foot tall multi headed black praying mantis, with chitinous razor blades on all legs and two damn great big sword like blades on its 'praying arms'. This thing is immune to pain, regularily loses limbs and heads without worry (even does so as part of a ritualistic yakuza style remorse ceremony on a regular basis). Fyre, I don't think you have ever heard Tammy at my place. I checked my CDs Last night, I don't own any. Still, what do you expect from someone who would accuse me of persuading or paying you to post here?

"Sounds" good to me. Since you won't need them, can you bring them with you when you visit?

Little cartriges, a bit flatter than a deck of cards, with the magnetic tape on spools inside. Used in the players that come with almost any car radio.

Re: Gryphin and Growltigga Thread

Oh, you meen like DAT tapes that we use for backups? Make sure you keep them away from magnets.

Gryph, you dont fool me a second with this

I should have thought that someone of your advanced years and enhanced follicular position would remember cassettes - I should have thought you would have remembered gramophones as well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Gryphin and Growltigga Thread

I don't know where mac is. Maybe doing more "reasearch". Perhaps trying to uncover the secreats of CTW.
Diplomacy? Moi? no, Charisma, yes. Fyre can confirm this. She knows when I'm trying to get her name right because I pause and get a strained look on my face
