No actual on-screen combat, today.... but 3,000 xp for everyone for plot.

Loot from previous session identified - two Greater Metamagic Rods of Maximize, one of Quicken. Pricy stuff. Let the loot division begin.

And three votes for Katsuro, he won the RP vote for last session uncontested (by a lot). Three votes, so 4,000 bonus XP to Katsuro.

Who roleplayed best this session?

Log hopefully attached.

And mixed news - I'm celebrating my birthday on the 18th of November... great for me, not so great for the session.

NullAshton November 5th, 2006 02:52 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

I vote for Kaylin. And... ooo... I vote that Kaylin gets the greater rod of quicken out of party resources.

Violist November 10th, 2006 04:46 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

I think the Maximize would be more useful... not a whole lot of high-level spells I need to Quicken, and dumping spells is a bit ... blech.

Douglas, would a rod of Maximise help Elorin much? I'm thinking we should split the Rods of Maximize between the casters and sell the Quicken, divide the loot amongst the others of the party, and Kaylin can owe money to the party pool. Or if Maximize isn't too useful to Elorin, then sell that as well, and divide among the party.

Aside from all of that, I thought Kibin roleplayed especially well this session.

douglas November 10th, 2006 10:59 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

A rod of maximize would be of very little use to me. Let's see, one rod of maximize kept for full value and the others sold for half yields 53450 gp per party member. That plus the Kaylin's share of the silver is almost enough to pay for the rod by itself, so I don't think Kaylin will have to take a loan from anyone to buy it under our normal loot division system unless she's already spent a significant portion of that silver.

NullAshton November 11th, 2006 12:58 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Or we could, you know, keep a rod of maximize out of the party loot as a whole. So Kaylin can blast a lot more effectively.

douglas November 11th, 2006 02:01 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

In that case I'd like the party loot pool to pay for a few enhancements on my bow so I can make pincushions out of monsters more effectively...

NullAshton November 11th, 2006 12:04 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Violist November 11th, 2006 03:57 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Douglas' idea of selling the other two works fine for me, Kaylin has enough gold handy to finish the buyback from the party. That good for everyone else? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Actually, if you want to cheese-out Hero System, here's how:

Gibberling Power: Summon Gibberling: Summon 100-point Gibberling (20 Active Points).

First round: 1 Gibberling. Second round: 2 Gibberlings. Third round: 4 Gibberlings. Fourth round: 8 Gibberlings.

And so on. Eventually, the whole world is overrun by Gibberlings...

This is probably one of the reasons Summon has a 'STOP' sign on it...

Jack Simth December 4th, 2006 09:08 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Ah, like the Wight Apocolypse; an 8th+ level Evil cleric and an 7th+ level Wizard, working together, can have a limitless number of Wights under the Evil Cleric's indirect control....

narf poit chez BOOM December 4th, 2006 10:32 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

How does that work?

Jack Simth December 4th, 2006 11:34 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Well, enervation applies negative levels to a creature. It's a 4th level spell, so an Evil Wizard-7 can cast it.
The enervation targets a commoner-1, who's slain by negative levels.
A creature killed by Negative Levels either rises as a creature of the kind that killed it (for certain creatures), or as a Wight the next night. As the Evil Wizard doesn't have a specific spawn clause, the commoner-1 rises the next night as a Wight.
Well, a Wight is a 4 HD undead; an Evil Cleric-8 can Command it.
A Wight has the create spawn ability (which is what all this is leading up to):
Quote:

Create Spawn (Su): Any humanoid slain by a wight becomes a wight in 1d4 rounds. Spawn are under the command of the wight that created them and remain enslaved until its death. They do not possess any of the abilities they had in life.

Feed your Wight commoner-1's that you've gotten from... wherever. Kidnapping, maybe. Or have it go harvest a few small villages, whatever. Each wight it creates is under it's control. It is under your control. You tell it what orders to give out. There's no limit to the number of wights it can control, but it wouldn't matter much if there were, as each enslaved wight can make more enslaved wights.

So you Have a Commanded Wight (let's call him First). Who has, say, 10 spawn (10 seconds). Each of those 10 spawn have 10 spawn (100 thirds). Each of those spawn have 10 of their own (1000 fourths). Each of those spawn have 10 spawn of their own (10,000 fifths).

If you go ten ranks, you have have 1,111,111,111 total wights under your (indirect) command.

And they have an Int of 11, so they should be able to relay orders properly, even.

Fragile, though - one assasination, and suddenly you have ten firsts... and you can only Command two. They probably don't like you very much.

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Whoop, that summon chain wouldn't actually work that way; have to write it like this: 'Gibberling Power: Summon Gibberling: Summon 2 100-point Gibberling (25 Active Points)'.

So 1, 3(2), 7(4), 15(8)...

Plus, given the rules, the GM can easily rule that the Gibberlings start fighting each other; basic summoned creatures start out neutral with regards to the summoner. Of course, a disadvantage: 'Psychological Limitation: Loyalty: Other Gibberlings (Very Common, Total) (25 Active Points)' would take care of that. Except that that's not really a disadvantage, but that rule still requires GM fiat.

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

I've been thinking about random chargen. Particularly, also about the blandness of point-buy.

So, what do you think?

NullAshton December 12th, 2006 01:27 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Rolls can easily be tampered with unless you roll in front of the GM. Also, there's randomness in it, which means that one person could get several 16-18s, while the other person has all rolls under 10.

narf poit chez BOOM December 12th, 2006 11:56 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

So we roll in front of the GM.

The randomness is the whole point. Roleplaying a character that you didn't purpose-design. Random rolls are a lot more organic.

Violist December 13th, 2006 01:20 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

I'd be OK with randomly rolled characters... for future characters, correct?

NullAshton December 13th, 2006 09:56 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

I for one don't like the randomness, also means character generation takes longer for me since I have to fit it around a few random rolls...

narf poit chez BOOM December 14th, 2006 02:00 AM
