Re: Online D&D Gaming

Using the sanity rule would add some flavor to the game as the campaign grows. No one will really notice or have any side effects from it during the earlier lower level stages but as the party gets to the higher levels 8-12, you could then see some changes or issues a person or party might have to deal with due to the long term effects.
The good news is the players really don't have to do anything for this rule other than role when I ask for a sanity check. I can carry the burden of the player tallies (along with exp). I think as the group plays more together it will add a bonding effect.
I have never tried it with D&D but I have used it during a Cthulu campaign, Boothill game and another sci-fi horror game.

We had three brave adventurers (Draknor, Sulimo & Wulf) wander through the mountain pass Last night. After only a few hours of travel they were able to ambush a goblin scouting party. Needless to say the little beasts were disposed of almost effortlessly.

Congrad's to Wulf for participating in every side adventure. He now is over the 1,ooo exp level and will add a level before the big adventure. (Contact me Wulf if you need anything)

Next Tuesday will be our next gaming date. Please sound off if you can attend. I think we will need about 4-5 characters to tackle the Minotaur's lair.

Has anyone heard from Murhpy (Khaladin the barbarian)? It's been a few weeks since I recall seeing a post of his.

It's also been about 2+ weeks since I heard from Hugh. Last I recall he was defending his planet in a mech game, hope he was frag'd.

Don't worry, we got frag'd bad Last tuesday. 6 losses straight, and we are about to lose the planet. We will likely launch another PA, this time as the attacker. The people we were defending this planet for gave us like 4 assaults, and a bunch of lights, mediums, and a handful of heavies, and they were all the "vanilla" mechs. No Clan tech= no missile boats, and less flexibility in weapons.

I don't know if we have anything going on next week in the NBT league, but Manny Ashall may have to drop from the party to pilot a huge 75 ton robot.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Good session. Too bad I don't have 8-10 hours so we can start and end an adventure in one sitting.
Good news:
orcs had 127 gold, 328 sp, 3 spears, 3 short swords, 1 long sword, and 1 mace (+1).
ogre had a pouch with 3 pieces of jewelry (about 100 gp ea) 365 gp, 2 medium gems, 6 small gems, one excellent huge club (2d6+5). Grull removes the two canine teeth of the ogre ("ughh, sage in village collects teeth, gives potion or gold in return, must get more.")

Bad News: After the fight Grull comes out of his rage and is barely hanging on. He has 22 points of damage after the two big hits.

Summary: It near 1 am and the group is one hour away from the maze of thorns. The party did get a whistle that summons the Minotaur child (he's only about 6'8"). The child usually has with him an ogre and possibly some orcs to help carry the treasure back. The minotaur's only real function is to navigate the maze since the orcs and ogres get lost. Once the whistle is blown he will appear in 2 hours. Grull mentions that the odds would be less if we can ambush him just as he comes out of the maze. If the child realizes there is an ambush or he is out numbered, he will run back in the maze to the lair. That can't happen. One side note Grull mentions "We shouldn't bleed the Minotaur child too much or his mother may sense danger ..."

I need to confirm a strategy in SEIV.
Are religious talismans considered targeting sensors?
In an asteroid belt with objects that interfer with targeting sensors will they be useless?
Also in an asteroid belt that causes shields to be disrupted, are shields worthless or penalized?

to my knowledge talismans are not sensors. Instead of the maximum of 99% they always hit, thus they won't be affected by asteroids. In an asteroid field of such a type mentioned the shields would be "offline", and would not work at all (They overload due to all the debris hitting the field). If this question were outside the D&D thread (which perhaps not everyone but us reads) someone in the know could supply a more extensive answer.

I JUST knew that had to be the reason. It is for just such a reason I don't ask such questions.

ME: "In one of my games will I be able to destroy a sun while cloaked"
Enemy in game: Oh, no. He's got sun destroyers !.

ALthough I also give such advice I always feel I am hurting myself by helping a potential enemy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

I like educated enemies. As it then forces me to think outside the box even more. We have faced each other before on the Paranoia 1 & 2 games and possibly some others. I can't remember which race you had in Paranoia 1.
I didn't like Paranoia 2 as the placement of homeworlds and galaxy map were subpar.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Wow it has been that long. I still remember hating the few guys who played D&D until I gave it a try and got hooked. Needless to say I have all the books from the first box set to 3.0. And this weekend my wife needs some office space and I have a feeling my collection shelf of books will have to move (another argument over the value of my collection).

GenCon is a bLast to see the costumes and unique levels of gaming that I have never aspired to. Having gone there on business twice I will have to take a trip for just pleasure and observe (with a digital camera of course) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Tesco you should join us to play or observe if you are remotely interested in D&D. We meet every Tuesday 9pm-12pm EST. We are very close to finishing the first adventure: "Into the Bull Minotaur's Lair". The group is nearing the climax scene ... I have a feeling there will be more blood shed over the treasure than fighting the main villian http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Online D&D Gaming

The interview with Michael Stackpole is interesting. As a teenager I was a bit resentful at being forced to go to church. I attribute playing AD&D to teaching me the virtues of faith and obedience to God (I must point out I do not think like other people). I have fond memories of playing the SSI games with my friend every afternoon.

I can ftp files but I can't access them via url for the OpenRPG program. Let me know if this is an easy fix, I have some new minis I wanted to try http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I disabled file indexing for the entire site, so you can no longer view the contents of a folder that has no index.html/.php file... but that should not affect using the images in Open RPG. I just tested it out in OpenRPG, and it worked fine for me.

I will not be able to play tonight.
Hurricane Frances leveled my avacado tree onto my house. Needless to say I spent most of yesterday hacking it down. I also have my parents staying with me since they live about 250 miles north of me, where the real damage occured. They haven't been able to contact anyone in their neighborhood so I may be traveling north to help them assess their damage ... if hurricane Ivan doesn't hit us this weekend that is.

I'd be a horrible kid if I hybernated in my office tonight playing so we will have to wait another week for the conclusion of the lair.

Randallw September 7th, 2004 11:16 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

I wondered if you'd be affected or not. Makes me glad all we worry about here is catching a cold at night.
I said I'd take over when the current mission ends, so I have 2 questions for everyone. Do you want to stay on Greyhawk or change to the world I created?. I'd like to try my own world, but the history I came up with does not accomodate Elves (pesky problem with them enslaving humans for 200 years). ALso, how does everyone stand on Mature gaming. I'd like to make use of The Book of Vile Darkness, but am concerned some players may not like certain aspects. Its a debate between standard "oh well apart from an evil alignment the enemy are the same as you" and "These people do things that will make you sick if you have a weak stomach". If we use "vile darkness" would you want me to also use "exalted deeds"?.
