Re: Game restart
Ah Beorne you fight quite well, the first few battles have not gone the way my generals had assured me that they would go.
I have since seen those generals stripped of their rank and publicly executed. I have dispatched New Commanders with reinforcements, they have my utmost confidence but we shall see have to see how things go. Salute, Grim Knight the Glowering One. |
Re: Game restart
You know, I'm not like some other italians here in the forum, I fight to the end, even if my fate is clearly doomed from 10 turns or so.
And I have Valhalla fields awaiting me, so I don't fear death. PS: Could you provide me some pictures of your generals executions? You know, I'm a little busy now so I fear I cannot attend the show ... |

I tip my hat to you Mictlan. Or perhaps I kicked your dog in a former life and this is your revenge! Anyway, you have a big army parked there and the next couple of turns might put you over the top. |

A lesson learned.
Ok notes to self.
-Never ever, EVER send your SC pretender into -7 dominion. -Really respect magical power. -FIND more magical sites. -never give up. Well done Panther this game has been a fantastic education in strength of arms VS strength in magic used wisely. Much respec |
Re: A lesson learned.
Good war, Steerpike. You and Jontunheim attacked me at the worst time (for me) since Abysia had just started a war with Vanheim and I jumped on that bandwagon. But I then jumped right off and abandoned that war to hit you back when you both invaded me. Now, it looks like Vanheim is mostly dead from the combined might of Abysia and Pythium, even without my help over there.
Of course, I am getting overrun by Jontun since I ignored him for the most part trying to kill you. I hope to hit him back sometime soon. And if you would hurry up and die, it sure would be a lot easier for me! By the way, you are fully correct about the pretender. It is a huge mistake to have your 300 HP God stuck in high level enemy dominion and down to 35 HP. They don't Last long like that no matter how strong they are. I thought you should have sent your pretender back home instead of invading my capitol. You probably could have reclaimed most of your original territory back that way since it is all lightly defended. As for the magic of Caelum, I have been on the receiving end of exactly that in several of my previous and ongoing MP games. This is my first attempt trying out a heavily magical race. It does seem to work satisfactorily, despite the hard research in this particular game. I also learned early on in my few MP games that heavy searching for magic sites just might be the most important thing you can do. So I did that in this game for the first time, and it worked out well for me. |

Peacekeeping
Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep <sound of typewriter in background> Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep
We interrupt our broadcast of “The Sound of Music” for this important lightning news flash. The Office of His Almost Most Highness, Graham Grassbahl, the Great First Lord Chancellor of the Divine Exchequer and Trainer of the Imperial Poodle Ponies, has released to the capitol press office of Central Ulm National News Incorporated Network (CUNNIN) that PASHA, the GREAT BLACK IRON LORD of ULM, has issued a Proclamation of Defensive Offense against the Caelum Dominion of Panther. “This is NOT a declaration of war,” insisted His Almost Most Highness Grassbahl. “It’s a preemptive peacekeeping mission. Caelum’s continual and unprovoked hostile actions cannot go unanswered. As all civilized lords agree, the magical garbage [Caelum] is ruining the pastoral landscape for all peace-loving dominions. The Noble Jotunheim Giants and Honorable Arcoscephalens have already borne the brunt of our mutual self-defense. We only hope that we are not too late and encourage all the GREAT RACES to join this unfortunate but necessary crusade to clean up Caelum’s toxic thaumaturgic waste poisoning the environment.” Now back to our program. Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep <sound of typewriter in background> Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep “Alone on a hill stood a lonely goatherd… “ |
Re: Peacekeeping
Ah, the great peaceloving nation of Caelum should hire his own lawyers to spread untruths too. But our news network will use the truth only, unlike the false Black Iron Lord of treacherous Ulm.
The nation of Caelum has never invaded a neighbor on its own. Even the unprovoked attack upon Vanheim was but a response to an attack by them upon Pythium and a subsequent invasion by Abysia. It is Abysia who now owns the former capitol of Vanhiem, not Caelum. The near elimination of the threat of Arcoscephale was in retalliation for a totally unprovoked attack upon our very homeland! And the giants too invaded our beloved homeland and are still sitting next to our very capitol. Several warnings have been issued to our fine people as they frequently must hide underground in the hopes of survival. And now, the treacherous nation of Ulm has also launched a completely unprovoked attack upon our nation. This was despite a long-standing border treaty with them and previous peaceful trading missions. So, this is a warning to all neighbors of Jontunheim and Ulm. They are untrustworthy nations prone to unprovoked attacks. Do not believe their missionaries. And since the majority of their troops are currently sitting in Caelum territory, then now would be a fine time to capture much unprotected territory from both warmongering nations. Thus ends the true report from the Inland world. No lawyers need apply! *But sir, isn't your own daughter now studying in the University of Caelum to become a lawyer herself? Shaddup!!!* |
Re: Peacekeeping
Im hurt boys...hurt real bad...
However elimination is rather a strong word. I would say 3 turns is realistic. As to my unprovoked attack... I plead guilty your honour. Im man enough to admit that my only provocation was being completely surrounded by two nations sitting on top of most statistics tables (thats you too Abyssia you shy thing)who were calmly carving up my very weak neighbour and looking about for another victim. ME. Your retaliation was a thing of beauty, I must have lost 9 provinces to your first attack and perhaps 8 to your second. The bottom line is I have learned more in this game than in months of single player and I have loved every turn. Especially the bad ones. Not...dead...yet |

Re: Peacekeeping
Deceptions and lies, fellow nations of inland...
The devious Panther would have you believe that he is helpless, his people cowering from the onslaughts of Jotun giants, Ulmish armor and Arco elephants. Yet far indeed it is from the truth, for his mages sit smug and safe in his high towers, and fly out at their leisure to devastate our lands. Verily we admit that our plan to war against Caelum has been concocted in secret meetings, yet would you rather have us wait until Caelum destroys us one by one? Better than we unite and fight for the common good than wait for a slow death. You may heed Caelum's call to arms and strike at us while our warriors are dying to Caelum magics, and you will perhaps win victory and glory. But your victory will be short-lived indeed, for in doing so, you shall assure that the day will come when Caelum seraphs appear in the skies above your own cities and fill your heavens with lightning and illusionary horrors. Then shall your victory turn to ashes as the skies themselves bLast all that you cherish and love to nothingness... |

He also seems to come up with nice catchy phrases like that one above. Probably because of his law training, as that kind of people must always think with words to do a good job. I too thought of President Bush when I read that phrase. I seem to bungle words myself. Give me a nice equation or an electrical circuit instead! Anyway, this has been such a fun game all around with people who sure like the game that we ought to do it again when this game ends. And what I liked best was that there were no quitters. I have been in a couple of MP games with quitters, and it really spoils the whole thing. At one time, I was thinking that this game might end sort of soon with me winning. But now that three nations invaded me, I am not so sure. Probably Abysia is now on top. It is certainly going to be a long, drawn out battle for me. I have not even dented the armies of either Jontun or Ulm as yet, as you all can clearly see from the army size graphs. At least I did hurt Arco real bad, though, and took nearly all of his former territory! |

A new game
I would love to have a new game with the same crew and different nations or maybe the same nations swapped around on a different map.
Where would we play on now that Mosenhansen is no more? Does anyone know? I dont play many strategy games multiplayer Online so I'm pretty ignorant. As for my provinces, they were all trash anyway what do you expect when you start in wasteland. And considering I had the flood event which kills a quarter of your population in my home province I think I did ok overall. |
I\'m permanently vanquished!
I'm arrived in Valhalla (thanks tho Grim that provided me the bus ticket)!
I think I did not so well overall, It was my first int'l game, but when around turn 20 the two major powers allied against me, well, I'v been a bit unlucky. Perhaps Van is seen as major threat (next time I'll take TC!no, joking). Or perhaps I offended the major Abysian god by squashing a lizard, or I ate the promising little son of the Caelum king during a banquet think it was a big chicken, I don't know. Finally I copy and paste the word of my only ally Steerpike: "I would love to have a new game with the same crew and different nations or maybe the same nations swapped around on a different map." Tell me if it is going to happen. One Last thing: Grim, how have you defeated that pesky paladin you know? Bye and ... sorry Grim, I've to chase gorgeus Scandinavian girls, hunt deer and drink wine, I think I can't be at the executions you invited me! Bye to all! |
Re: I\'m permanently vanquished!
I know the one your talking about and my legions of Lava Warriors did not have much trouble putting him down. They do enough damage that when he recklessly charged into their ranks he was surrounded and quickly squashed.
Ah then the execution of my faulty commanders will proceed immediatly. I hope to see you in another game. You held out pretty well with what you had against what you faced. Grim Knight lifts his fiery brow in salute to Beorne the Vanquished pretender of Vanheim. |
Re: A new game
Well, since war was raging all around me, minus the one me and Van got into, I thought I'd take advantage of some gem hunting. I sent my troops out with daintily colored woven baskets and had them start combing the woods, mountains, streams, etc.
It was a frolicking good time! Err...Or maybe it was just Acashic Record... Krool |
Re: A new game
Hey, is Mosehansen down permanently? I went to the server and it appear the Dom page is gone. I thought it was staying up for the time being.

Re: A new game
Let me correct that. The server is up, just the html that shows whether you have a turn ready to go is gone...
Hmmm...I guess just randomly check? Krool |
Re: A new game
Don't know why, but I do see what you mean. I think we are all going to greatly miss the Mose Hansen server when it eventually goes private.
Randomly check is likely the ticket from now on. |
Re: A new game
I would definitely join in another game, and I would be happy to play a different race for the fun of it.

Caelum\'s War of Agression
Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep <typewriter sounding in background> Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep
We interrupt our broadcast of “The Wizard of Oz” to bring you this live interview with His Almost Most Highness, His Highly Esteemed Corpulence, Graham Grassbahl, on the progress of the peacekeeping mission to counter the Caelum War of Aggression. We at Central Ulm National News Incorporated Network (CUNNIN) are pleased to bring our viewers this late breaking news event. <Camera switches to a view of His Highly Esteemed Corpulence eating his dinner… a plate of delicious Ulm sour-sugar blintzes.> “It shocks the conscience that the Fraudulent Caelum Pretender spends so much of his tax dollars squeezed from his oppressed people to fund a fat propaganda machine to spew forth grotesque falsehoods. If you ask me, the international community should strap a diaper to PANTHER’s face to protect US ALL from his slanderous verbal incontinence.” “PANTHER claims that Caelum is peace-loving. Bah! <belch> http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rant.gif Tell THAT to the swarms of Jotunheim and Arcoscephalen refugees spilling over Ulms boarders! That mad pretender lacks all compassion or appreciation for the consequences of his horrid actions. It’s as if the ghost king lacks any love of life… and views US ALL as tender morsels to feed his repugnant appetite for POWER….” <Grassbahl stabs a juicy blintz with this fork, slicing it in half with his knife… a hungry glimmer shines in his eyes. He tries to repress a deep belch http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rant.gif and then pops half of “his kill” into his mouth> <Speaking with his mouth full> “It’s DISGUSTING how the aggressive magical garbage [Caelum] lies with his mouth while his hands further pollute all that is dear to all peace-loving dominions…. You there…. Bring me more wine….” “Yes, sir…” responds a waiter. “And fetch me another platter of blintzes, but be sure they’re FRESH!” <Belch> http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rant.gif “Yes, sir…” And now back to our program. Re: PBEM
How does the PBEM thing work? Does someone be the host and collect emails from everyone?
As far as changing races, I don't play the same race more than once. My goal is to play my first 17 MP games with all different races. Let's see... Done list, in approximate order started: 1. Arcoscephale (Died, about the fifth one eliminated) 2. Pythium (Draw, finished tied as one of the top 3 when game crashed) 3. Ulm (turned over to permanent sub who lost, but ended up second without being eliminated) 4. Atlantis (Died, first eliminated, oops!) 5. C'tis (ongoing, currently about 4th in stats) 6. Mictlan (lost, but not eliminated, though finished near the bottom of the stats) 7. Vanheim (ongoing, currently about 5th) 8. Caelum (ongoing, currently under attack by three overly aggressive nations, two of which are spreading lies and untruths) Still to go: Abysia Ermor Jontunheim Man Marignon Pangaea R'lyeh T'ien Ch'i Machaka This means I am about half way there!!! |

Re: PBEM
I finally got it to work for me. I opened like 10 windows simultaneously before one of them finally allowed me to go forth. I then went it to look at the Messages, clicked on a battle, and it promptly crashed to desktop. So I tried again with a couple more windows and finally got it to work properly. I eventually made my move rather quickly and loaded it up.
I do wonder if it is going to be all right, though. I had much troubles in both of my other Mose Hansen games too. Something is clearly amiss. Likely, Mose Hansen is changing his server like he said he would start doing. He did say that he would not kill any ongoing games. I hope we can continue this game, for I would like to see how I hold up under the relentless 3 on 1 fighting against those cruel and agressive nations against my poor peaceful and frozen fliers! |

Re: PBEM
Using a server is nicer, but email is not so bad. It just means that people need to know how to locate their Dominions game folder and email the right file to the host, etc. With the right shortcuts, it is quite easy.
Using a specific email subject line would help the host to keep track of emails by having them routed to a specific folder by using rules in Outlook. Creating a mailing list would allow the host to mail out the turn files to players easily, too. Dragonfire11 is currently hosting an email game with 4 players. He emails the other players' turn files to all players (in other words, I get the other players' turn files, too, as attachments to the email). That way, Dragonfire needs to send only ONE email per turn opposed to special emails to each player. I assume that passwords would prevent players from peeking into other players' turn files. (I have not tested this theory, because I am a lawyer and, therefore, I am physically unable to cheat or lie. I am sure Brother Dragonfire11 would back me up on this fact.) Playing by email, however, requires players to be very careful to look at the date and time of emails and game files to make sure they are dealing with the most recent game files. It is easy to accidentally email or save an old game file and screw things up. I see this as the biggest risk of players getting upset. |
Logging on
I cannot connect either. I tried 3 times this morning.
