In regards to "bugginess", I'm seeing something I've never had happen before in my previous SP or MP games. I'm recruiting units for a turn (say 6 units), with 3 or 4 resources left over unused. On the next turn, only 4 show up, and the other 2 are still in the queue. This has been happening the last few turns, where I KNOW I'm not recruting more units than I have resources for the turn, but for some reason 1 or 2 are not being recruited.

Is this a bug? Or maybe explainable in some way, even though I've not seen it before.

This should never happen. You might be overlooking something obvious (like reading the numbers incorrectly), though I don't see how that could be.

Send me a couple of turn files (with the password) plus the 2h files, and I will see if you are doing something wrong.

Hey, is anyone willing to play jotunheim? I am completely uninterested in playing this race and I've done the turns 5-7 requested. In the event that Tom is gone for long term, I wouldn't be able to even put in the time to play this game since I'm in the other. I did decently I think and took all the surrounding provinces of my capital before effectively being boxed in. However, the army I think is decent enough to be able to take on one nation to make a push if need be. Not to mention, one of the provinces I control is actually pretty valuable containing shamans a recruit.

Heh, actually it didn't hurt as much as you think. (though I DID lost a gyjga off a miscalculation and wrong scripting and that hurt) I bought the giants from just converting a bunch of gems into gold.

arg, another 2 cheat messages. is this gonna happen every time someone uses alchemy?

I have never seen a cheat message except in cases where someone used the wrong mod to create a pretender. If you are still seeing them my guess would be its because those nations didnt use the right mod. Perhaps you should kill them off? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Recently I found out that the rumor is that this is a result of using the CB 5.2 mod. I am not really sure how a mod could cause a bug tho?? Since all it really does is change around some numbers...

Morkilus February 6th, 2006 06:41 PM

Re: jotu replacement

I would suggest for the next CB mod that we go back to 5.0 and implement the agreed changes. There is definitely something wrong with recruitment, but I don't think anyone's figured out exactly what causes the bug, so it is very hard to fix, especially since it seems to happen on any variety of unit.

I think panther tried to improve the usefullness of resource scales in 5.2

Oversway February 6th, 2006 07:14 PM

Re: jotu replacement

I think quantum_mechani (not Panther) is doing a fine job on the cb mod (along with many suggestions and contributions from the community).

I've seen the resource bug as well, but its not really a showstopper. I thought maybe it had to do with sloth/productivity scales changing, but I don't really know.

According to Tom Scudders post, he'll be back tuesday.

One other comment: being mictlan in such a crowded game is rough.

Re: jotu replacement

mictlan? just use your f9 blessed jaguars for early expansion until you get some blood going... you do have those don't you? :p

and the resource bug is an old one, but has been seemingly much more common in recent versions of the CB mod... i don't think anyone really knows why.

Re: jotu replacement

Thanks, I've sent you an email with the latest 2 turns. Let me know if I'm seeing things or it's truly a "feature" (as we say at work when we find problems in our application).

The Panther February 7th, 2006 01:14 AM

Resource bug

I looked at the turns sent by Shmonk. He definitely cannot use all the available resources in his capitol.

My preliminary conclusion is that it is caused by the new statement added to Version 5.2:
#resourcemult 120

This seems to be reducing the usable resources by 20% (when you have sloth?). Perhaps this was intended, perhaps not. However, even if intended, it does seems problematic (or even annoying) when you don't have all the resources displayed availble to actually recruit.

This seems even worse than the problem of having to keep track of resources used for the guy in the queue under any game version...

Shmonk February 7th, 2006 03:03 AM

Re: Resource bug

Well, I think I'm fine playing with this as is. It is the first game I've played with CB 5.2, and also the first time I took some sloth. I guess other people using 5.2 have seen this though or have heard of it, so it's not that big a deal (though a little annoying). Knowing the calculation issue should help me better calculate the actual resources I can use for recruiting each turn.

Thanks for looking into it Panther.

Phew that was a wicked turn. Almost lost my pretender. He was down to 23 health...no Afflications to boot! Guess the luck gods haven't totally abandoned me for taking misfortune.

Yes, I have been aware of the issue with the command since the problem cropped up in a blitz shortly after 5.2's release. The line, if it worked properly, would have increased the amount of resources available globally by 20%. Unfortunately, the modding command itself apears to be bugged and so will have to be removed next version.

"A fire has destroyed the arcane laboratory." - what a nice result, there go 200 GCs and some research.

Ok, I know most of my neighbors now. Hello Man, Mictlan, Tien Chi, C'tis and Pangea. No much space left - lets go for 98 next (just as a warning to Pangea).

Peace and harmony from Ermor; eternal peace and harmony, that is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Thanks to KB for taking my turns for me. My very small nation of very big people is ready to get some work done. Too bad about losing a few niefel giants, but it's all in the service of the Cause.

Cheers, thanks all, and sorry for making it that much harder to get these turns out of the way quickly.

Ah, this makes perfect sense. I thought that Schmonk's resources seemed high for taking sloth 2. Apparently, using the command will display the extra 20% resources but not allow them to actually be used. I bet it has nothing to do with taking sloth.

Too bad it does not work, for it is a good idea to add more resources globally to make high protection national troops easier to recruit, especially now that the gold cost of many has been reduced.

Np. Sorry I would've been more careful with the attack but I really took the big risk to claim that province before another nation took it. (Since I staled the first turn)

War has been joined

The nation of Jotunheim, finding itself boxed in on all sides, has declared war upon the dangerous expansionist mercenary-hoarding powers of Tien Chi.

Besides which, they were massing Hoburg Militias on our border. What could be more threatening?

Man v Mictlan!

"Aggressive as Man?"

I say, sir, you are a dastardly fellow. You took my capital without provocation and as we speak a huge force of your blood-thirsty madmen rampage through the Avalon forests towards my capital once more! As mighty as you might believe your hell-spawned demons and animal-pelt-wearing fools are, they will be no match for the wardens and crones of Avalon!

Your cowardly expeditionary force received what they deserved for desecrating holy ground: swift, merciless justice at the hands of the Black Annis. The blood of your misguided eastern army will go to my Queen, just as your Prophet's did. Her steel claws will rend the flesh of all who oppose her!

Consider your request for tribute rejected.
