yes. they're quite dangerous, and get zealous during mating season. usually docile, they may chase after an unwary interloper during this time. but they are very slow. any half-witted postman could outrun one.

Just the Southern Caribbean (leaving from San Juan). The wife and kids are with me so there will be spousal enforcement of a six umbrella drink maximum per day. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif If the Utgard Giants start rampaging wildly next week there may be rum involved...

Thanks for asking!

I wouldn't blame the giants for getting a little enraged, having snakes in their yard that they cannot catch. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Have a good time on your voyage!

Thanks Firewalker. I am enjoying this game no matter what the final outcome. Seeing the snakes crawl around my provinces makes me wish my giants had fangs despite all my trash talk...

more importantly, does it mean we can get turns done faster than every 47.86 hours.

*sigh*

I know we're on hold for easter, but it would've been nice to have a new turn to muse over while we're on hold. wishful thinking.

every game i am in seems like at least one player vanishes or is continuously last and i tell myself i am going to try to some how establish a league of fairly reliable, relatively quick players.

I've been pondering the merits of trying to get a 24-hour hosting game that doesn't delay - for anything. You get sick? Find a sub or stale your turn.

Harsh, but I wonder if people would be up for it.

Sorry for the complete tangent there.

Omnirizon March 22nd, 2008 07:07 AM

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

it isn't an issue of spot delays.

it is an issue that this game has been on a 48 hour timer since something like turn 5.

it is an issue that the culprit of this delay was none other than the host and admin, who had set a ground rule (check post one) of 24 hour timer for first 20 turns.

it is an issue that this person has consistently been the SOLE reason of delay.

it is an issue that this person used their host/admin privlege to adjust the timing of the game to their own whims (that is, bump up to a 48 hour timer without ever having consulted anybody else in the game)

it is an issue that all this behavior, taken together, is simply rude and inconsiderate.

sorry Zeldor. but that's all been on my chest for some time now. had to mention it all; it's better for the long run. nothing personal.

Ok, it works.

Omnirizon:

I have never used my host rights to help me in any way. There are no statistics, but I think that Bogarus was last most of the time.

I know I am last way too often even though, I am trying to find a sub for me, but without luck. IF you guys can find someone on my place I will be happy to give my place away.

And rules were simple - 24 hours till wars, 48 hours with wars. That is not my fault that cleveland just cannot live with lost war against me in previous game. We did fight for 40-50 turns there and it will be like that here, I guess.

Well, Zeldor, if you cannot find a sub after a few turns, and you really don't want to play anymore, you should probably AI yourself. I mean, how many turns have you been looking?

Anyway, no hard feelings here -- I'm getting into two endgames now and it takes long enough to do those turns. 48hr turns are fine with me.

Sigh.

Zeldor, you attacked me first. You went underwater with your wyrm and took one of my provinces. YOU broke the NAP. If there is a misunderstanding we could talk about it, but I thought you meant to declare a war with that attack. Honestly I donīt understand how you think.

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

couple of things:

1) I, Bogarus, have very rarely been the last player. Usually I'm among the last 3 but I'm usually not the last.

2) Trying to get a trade honored after you declare war on someone is a lot of guts.

3) 48 hours is pretty good for turns. Especially for folks in wars and are coordinating trades etc.

4) Bogarus is interesting but the infantry sucks.

Re: New semi-newbie game!

SPARTA, Alexandria, Late Spring of Year 3 - Oltarnees, serpentine pretender of Arcoscephale, has again been slain.

The mighty Wyrm arose from the sea in a rear guard action, attempting to open a new front on the previously quiet Southern boarder in the Pan-Arco war.

But Pangaean National Guardmanikins mustered a stalwart defense, overwhelming the beast before it could cause a single casualty.

A (second) memorial has been erected in the Hall of Fame in honor of Oltarnees.

A rough estimate puts me at 470 +/- 20, though as you know, it's not too difficult to decrease that number... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

You sent me a pm last week which I missed because Iīve been busy. In that pm you proposed some agreement about the waters. You mustīve taken my silence for a yes. Truth is I havenīt given this game much attention at all, partially because it ran to slow to keep up motivation.

To me it seemed you attacked me for no reason. So I attacked you back and underlined that with a message to add some roleplay.

So the whole thing is a misunderstanding and I cannot see why you need to make a big hassle and send me pms telling me how I will be "doomed in every MP game now" and "no one will trust you". You start a newbie game and that is how you treat the newbies?

I think that kind of personal attack ruins the game completely. I donīt want to involve any feeling but fun when I play dominions. It is just a game after all. A toy for big kids.

You have ruined the fun of this Alexandria game and that means Iīll put this toy away. I am not prepared to play when players take in-game stuff out of the game and make a personal RL conflict out of it. I will call for a sub and focus on other games instead.

And I can only hope you are mature enough to put this behind you and meet on a proper level in future games.

EDIT: I got a bit angry when I wrote this, prhaps Iīm overreacting. Iīll chill out and maybe be back to play again.

Yvali, Don't worry about it - no offense to Z but I don't take his accusations seriously (and I am guessing I am not the only one). There was a similar "communication" issue early on in in Urapara. You are a trusted and loved member of the game - I hope you will keep playing. Tien Chi loves fish after all!

Yeah, I have some thoughts on that as well but generally try to avoid being a controversy generator. As you said, it is just a game. Let it just be said that I find that particular post highly ironic.

A conversation overheard somewhere in the Nariun Sea by a particularly sentient seagull flying by:

Nagini: "If you could just keep this appetite for Huskarls under control we wouldn't be ..."

Nagaraja: "No one mentioned that it SNOWS in those mountains at this time of year?! You know how sllloooowww Nagas get in the winter time -- it's time to sleep!"

Nagini: "Oh, why don't you just eat a shambler and shut up while we swim back to a nice warm lake somewhere back home!"

Nagaraja: "Hah! Not for long: I'll have Jotun Woodsman on a plate before this is OVER!"

[A shambler whimpers as it is bitten by the Nagaraja.]

Needless to say, the Seagull nearly fell out of the sky laughing to itself. The shamblers however did not look very amused.

Wanted: one Bag of Winds or a Winged Helmet.

Willing to trade: any Nature item forgable under Cons 6, including a Serpent Kriss, Hydra Skin Armor, Green Dragon Scale Mail, or the highly coveted Tree Lord's Staff. I can discuss non-Nature items, but am pretty limited by gems.
