Wow, I almost didn't notice, because of all of the game delayed for the holidays..... I never received turn 31. I was just checking the Llamaserver to see which games I had outstanding, and saw Timewarp was not in yet - so I've requested a resend, I hope it's not gone googly moogly on me.

..... "Googly" is recognized as a word by Firefox's spellchecker. o.O

Alright I set myself to AI this turn. I'm getting wooped up on by LA C'tis and have no answer to the ridiculous amount more research they have than me.

I'm not sure what those Raksarajas were doing?

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

It is the most disturbing and sad thing.

I had about 300 men, and a handful of Thunderstrikers (sure, half of them were well equipped soulless), and he fended me off with 20 mages and about 80 archers, and most of those mages were Alchemists, ie- no Banishment.

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

C'tis all ages seems to be doing well by score graphs in this game, and yet many people consider C'tis very week.
I guess this proves them wrong.

JimMorrison January 2nd, 2009 06:41 PM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Well C'tis, by many standards, has rather crappy national troops.

Expansion isn't necessarily hard with an awake SC however, and early wars likewise. The trick being that even though their mages are quite powerful, they're not necessarily versatile, so late game has few options, compared to the counters others can develop against them.

But it is interesting, and fun, to see them all doing so well in this game, I'm curious what will become of it.

Dimaz January 3rd, 2009 03:27 AM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Crappy troops, yep. Say it to Niefel Yarls that were slain in 2 rounds by these "crappy troops" :).

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Wow, they're even Cold Blooded, it sounds like a terrible fluke to me. :o

Executor January 3rd, 2009 05:09 AM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Poison slingers and Lizard Warriors are far from crappy troops, and are very cost effective, sure they all become obsolete by the mid-late stage of the game but so do most troops.

I find C'tis powerful in all stages of the game, but the most in the early when you can rush just about anyone with hordes of undead.

JimMorrison January 3rd, 2009 07:02 AM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Lizard Warriors lack shields, and while they are situationally useful, their armor isn't high enough to consider them much without a lot of support. Poison Slingers are hilariously reckless, and will cause horrible friendly fire casualties unless you buff to 100% PR.

I think the paradigm is simply that unless you can use a nation's troops to good effect without creating very specific circumstances - they kind of suck. Doesn't mean they are useless, just means that other nations can be more effective with less effort.

Of course, effective use of combined arms tactics can go a long way, but for example that is hard to do against indies, when cost effectiveness of troops means the world. In that context, it is hard to make a C'tissian force that will take multiple indie provinces without significant attrition, and that's definitely not a good thing. :p

See above about powerful mages that mostly just do 1 thing well. :p

Executor January 3rd, 2009 08:34 AM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

C'tis can handle indies just fine, Serpant dancers, chariots, swamp guards, elite warriors, all of them do very good against indies. Hell, look at my provinces if you don't think so.
C'tis does lack magic diversity but doesn't need a bless so you can easily take a rainbow or a SC pretender for early expansion and still have good scales.
They are absolute killers in research ( again the graphs) and plus they can make tons of skull mentors.
That gives a significant lead against any other nation in battle magic, so poison cloud, nether darts, terror, shadow blast, storm of thorns, soul drain... you pick, just put that heavy infantry in front, place a few snakes with standards and go crazy with spells.

lwarmonger January 3rd, 2009 02:41 PM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Throw in 6-7 harvesters of sorrow equipped with bane venom charms (something C'tis can produce in large quantities)and you also create an almost invulnerable force that can devastate an enemy economy in a very short period of time (since it takes a turn to move an army in, a turn to set it patrolling to reduce unrest, as long as you keep your HoS on the move you can permanently impair, and eventually destroy, an enemy economy quite quickly). All the while your city guards are keeping their army uselessly outside your walls while you set the stage for a successful battle and subsequent rollback... this is especially effective as MA C'tis because of your dominion effects.

JimMorrison January 3rd, 2009 07:33 PM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Well I wasn't trying to start a huge debate, was just pointing out that C'tis is considered to have some significant flaws, and then illustrating what those are thought to be. ;) I am not here to convince anyone. :p

I am just happy to see C'tis performing so well in this game, that's all. :D

Executor January 3rd, 2009 09:39 PM

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

Well every nation has some flaws ( maybe not Hinnom they are still overpowered ) but I'm just trying to state that I find C'tis a very good nation, and is actually one of my favorite along with Kailasa and Sauromatia, that's all.
Just my opinion, after all I find helheim to be a week nation which many people would argue.

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!

"Joern disappeared one day and was never seen again" -didn't know about that kind of random event (or spell?). Kind of mean.

Personally I like Citis but as the army size graph shows they loose troops just as fast as they build them. Wish they had something really effective like some rally big snakes with tough skins instead of the weak small ones that get shot easily.

They don't have any income. They own one small province, and a besieged castle, and what little income they get is eaten by a score of mages.

Unfortunately, those very mages (mage-priests, many of them) decimated the force that was to take the castle, and so I've been forced to just sit on them for the time being.

They'd be well done and gone, but Midgard decided to get all frisky with me. Ironic there, as they had violated the terms of our NAP by taking the Hinnom capital, which we had agreed that Lanka would take, and so I was going to come punish them anyways. :p This whole game has been odd for Lanka, but we are proud and strong, and I've no doubt that those crusty iceberg huggers will get what's coming to them. Well and TC, they'll die sooner or later. >.>

Ermor is wedged in the very northwest corner of the map, and no alliance could be formed to fight them. Being so geographically confined really concentrates both their defenses and dominion spread.

Which secret weapon? O.o

I'm very upset that my Davana, with its lowly 19 MR succumbed to your first (or was it second?) cast..... Even at 19, he should have endured at least a few rounds of spam. :(

The Rakshasi was even more upsetting though. I have no idea how she got set to Defend, but I'm sure you know she was meant to Hide, and then start picking off your bastard Galdermen. :p Of course I got screwed on Air income, so I can't really gear another..... Besides, you may or may not know, C'tis (one of them, I dunno) has decided to join in the war. So your secret weapon - serendipity - has been launched with or without your knowledge, and will signal the end of this troubled game. :p

I know Lanka are heavy hitters, so it's not like you get a cookie for doing well with them, but damn..... I had such a brilliant start, even going #1 income with 2Turmoil. o.O But splitting my forces between Hinnom (who was almost dead) and MA TC (who was barely there) led to slight defeats on both fronts, setting me up for a horrendous attrition rate before this conflict with Vanheim could get underway.

Oh if only I had those 1000 men that I lost to TC's Fire Arrows and Totally-Random-Full-Spectrum-Evocation-Salvos™, the war would have gone differently..... until C'tis came out of nowhere anyways. :re:

I really wanted to start sort of near Ermor. REALLY did. I had plans worked out for how to deal with them, and then what to do with their Death income once they were dealt with. ;) Oh well, next time. I'll see you all in hell! YAH! :p (not quitting or AI or anything, that's just fun to yell)

Lol... Ermor and one of the Monkey Empires is currently locked in a death grip. It is still in the balance, with the Monkeys having a slight advantage. Tides can turn quickly though, so I guess we will see.

I really was wishing that the "mostly militia" was really hiding something awful that would be worth killing.

Oh and folks, now both Midgard and some C'tis or other (MA? south end of the map ;)) seem to have fully committed their primary armies at the farthest southern reaches of the map. If you were planning to attack them, better move those plans up before they consolidate the rest of the once rich lands of almost peaceful Lanka. ;)

Well, the fact that you caught me off balance with your first strikes, and then the stupid errors I've made since, made you a bit overconfident, I think. ;)

Though I think it was stupid that my pretender would only get off 1 Earthquake and go to 174 Fatigue - not even hurting your army. :p I still don't understand why her Fatigue wasn't half that, and then she'd cast again. I'm glad she didn't since you had Fog Warriors up, but meh.

Otherwise you've been running roughshod over my forces, so I will call it a silver lining on my coffin. :p Oh if only I had focused on Hinnom first, then squashed TC. I think my Blood hunting would have gotten into high gear fast enough to make this a much less one sided conquest.

It's I who should be congratulating you, for coming from such a mediocre position at start, to having all your ducks in a row in time to wax me handily.
