Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Damn daylight savings, or rather lack of that. I intended to take my turn this morning while eating breakfast, but forgot that I am currently at GMT+2 rather than GMT+3 like still a bit over a week ago. Which resulted in my first ever stale in a Dom3 game :(

To make matters worse, Lanka had an excellent turn, which saw my Marverni totally overrun; I wouldn't have been able to do much to reverse that even if I had been able to take my turn. Now I don't have enough gold to pay my forces, and my forts are under siege. My preteder is still (barely) alive, but has so far taken quite a few hits from remote spells. While my druids cause massive havoc with reverse communion, they really are no use without troops to protect them. I really do not see how I could possibly make a come-back from this, even if Lanka was attacked by all her other neighbours.

To preserve my sanity, I think I will go AI :( Cheers for Lanka for a well executed attack! Thanks Burnsaber to setting up this game, I am sure interested in joing a similar game in the future too :)

You have multiple forts still in your possession, a live pretender, a bunch of mages, and you're going AI?

I have forts yes, but almsot all are besieged. I have mages true, but no troops to protect them (and you know Marverni druids need a meat shield as they are ultra-fragile) as the troops will desert now (no money to pay for upkeep). I have a live pretender, true who has has been hit by quite a few seeking arrows (and while he has recuperation and will eventually get rid of his afflictions, he is of absolutely no use now).

I am sorry, but the Marverni situation is totally hopeless as far as I can see.

Squirrelloid November 2nd, 2009 11:34 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Summon some meatshields? Surely you have gems?

rdonj November 2nd, 2009 12:16 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Taking a look at the score graphs, you do still have quite a few troops left. And, to my understanding, troops don't desert that quickly from lack of gold. Is there any way we could convince you to stay on for just one more turn, just to see how badly desertion will really hurt you? With that many troops remaining it would at least be worth searching for a sub to play out your final days, I think.

Isokron November 2nd, 2009 01:13 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

I dont think the marverni position is that hopeless, sure I think I will win the war in the end especially after last turn but I still have no good answer to his main army although it luckily have a bit of a problem keeping up with my thugs.

Jarkko November 2nd, 2009 02:47 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Very well, I'll stick around to the end then. Not that it makes any difference, the charts sadly do not reflect the truth here (like say, my druids being in an army, while the militia from two events are far far away, or the fact that most of my army is actually mercs, who will wave goodbye now (if you check that, you notice they all leave after this turn)) :(

rdonj November 2nd, 2009 04:31 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

I don't mean to force you to play, it just seems from the sidelines that there's still a play or two for you to make. Maybe there really isn't, and you're about to really get trashed next turn or so. Well, at that point I won't complain about you going AI. I would just prefer to have a player at the helm while there is still maybe some potential in the nation to wound its attacker.

Ulm is still looking for Fire and Astral gems. Can offer Earth and Nature stuff mostly in return, but that's not everything.

Ulm apparently wants to die. That's ok, my armies are going to be free for such a task shortly.

So, Baalz is staling out? After his good player pledge? Seems a bit contrary.

Frozen Lama November 4th, 2009 11:59 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

that seems a bit uncalled for Lingchih. i have not seen him post in a while, so i'd guess that something beyond his control is keeping him from acessing the internet

Trumanator November 5th, 2009 02:57 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

A temporary delay seems called for in that case.

rdonj November 5th, 2009 08:49 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Baalz is looking pretty close to staling in overlords too, where he is doing quite well for himself.

Burnsaber November 5th, 2009 11:33 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

I took the liberty of giving 12hour extension to get the thing sorted out.

Lingchih November 5th, 2009 08:36 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

My apologies to Baalz. That comment probably was uncalled for, since his position in the game is now most untenable. He does seem to be accessing the internet though... I see he did his turn in Overlords. But yeah, I haven't seen him around in quite a while either, here or on IRC.

Stretch November 6th, 2009 01:00 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

I took the liberty of storming Hinnom's fortress that I had sieged for the last 2 turns and slaying all inside! I think that this might be a moot issue next turn, although his last fort is outside of my jurisdiction. His two remaining forts have been under siege since before he staled. I would guess that he had left orders with his mages and just forgot to submit turns. Barring some kind of screwup on my or another nation's part he wasn't going to break the siege.

rdonj November 6th, 2009 09:12 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Eh, his shedu is back. It's within the realm of possibility that he'll survive the siege. Not much more than that though.

Illuminated One November 7th, 2009 08:42 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

As said ingame, if you need an item Ulm is happy to forge it for you for a slightly increased cost.

+2 gems for 5 gem items (4 to 7)
+3 gems for 10 gem items (8 to 13)
+4 gems for 15 gem items (11 to 19)
+5 gems for 25 gem items (17 to 30)

All items will be made as cheaply as possible. In the brackets you can find the possible prices. Prices for boosters and hammers have to be negotiated. First come first served.

*sigh*

Oh man, why did you have to go and take away my global?
It's not like I'm going to get anywhere with these 7 sites (not counting those nice supply or resource bonus sites...) I have.
Ah, now I have 8, but still.

rdonj November 8th, 2009 02:50 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Sorry about that. But I'd had designs on that global as well, and I couldn't think of a better opportunity to claim it. Besides, I'm not exactly swimming in sites either. Couple this with the fact that I'm caught in the middle of most of the great powers in the world... I need all the help I can get. Also, the complete and total lack of death magic that TNN has access to makes us the perfect nation to own the mother oak. :)

And great that my turn didn't get through.

Lingchih November 10th, 2009 01:53 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

And how did your turn not get through? I've been watching the board all night... you could have asked for an extension and gotten one. I assumed you were staling out.

Seriously man, Llamaserver is rock solid most of the time. And it is running well now. I can't believe you could not get your turn in, except if you were slacking, which I assumed you were.

Yeah, I was, but I still managed to send it in 10 minutes before hosting. I know that's dead late but 95% of the time the email arrives before the next update.

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Oh people of this world, look upon this new day and rejoice! One of the greatest threats to the peoples of this world is no more. Hinnom, the great devourer, stands at last defeated by the brave and noble warriors of Tir na N'og! The songs of our victory shall ring throughout the halls of every tuatha stronghold and bring hope to the oppressed.

And he staled how many times?

rdonj November 10th, 2009 10:34 PM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

I have no idea. I wasn't paying attention. However, in all honesty there wasn't a whole lot more he could have done without the stales. Anyway, I am not proclaiming my brilliance. Just the defeat of a very scary nation.

Trumanator November 10th, 2009 10:43 PM

Indeed, the defeat of the cannibal giants is a great day.

Stretch November 11th, 2009 12:23 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

He staled when his forces had been reduced to a few pitiful remnants hiding behind castle walls. Hinnom did not die sleeping, but alive and whimpering.

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Ok, since Ulm's last offer didn't get too much interest lets take it to the extreme. Ulm is selling a ring of wizardry. Price 25 Astral perls + the best offer in any gems gets one. Be aware - if you don't make an offer one of the superpowers might (or the other super power). We're really drunk and don't know what we do, you can't let us screw the world by handing them out for so cheap to someone else but you, can you? 3 turns before it's sold.

Frozen Lama November 12th, 2009 09:34 PM

Hey Ulm. Lets be reasonable here. Vacate the water (ok, leave the stupid tritons to get killed) and swear peace with us already.

Are you really going to bring a bunch of plant-men and land troops and fight a UW power while suffering from the poor amphibian tag? How much gold and gems are you willing to throw away doing this? How many resources and men can you waste before your neighbors decide you look tasty? Fighting me is just going to be a blackhole that eats resources without accomplishing anything.

I'm not sure what should be the improvement over the status quo in that for me? I might consider to accept a peace while keeping the province, though.

I'll put a slight delay on after this turn hosts (since it looks like you are already in), unless Burnsaber beats me to it. Probably just 12 hours.

You must be joking. Let you keep a province adjacent to my capitol? No way.

Niefelheim does not relish attacking the brave armies of Mictlan. But, if we are to be a power in this world, Mictlan must be conquered. If we die in trying, so be it.
