Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

Anyone heard anything from Mauxe yet?

I've taken the liberty to extend another 48 hrs, I think it's time we call this deadline firm, no further extensions are planned unless Mauxe request for more time to sort out his 1st turn.

Mauxe January 16th, 2011 11:26 AM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

Sorry for the silence.
I've been taking in the game thread as well as some pm's - and working through a rather involved map.
I was getting on this morning to ask for that 48 hours.
I'll be dome with my turn sooner -by tonight is the plan - I just don't want to get caught.

Thanks for allowing me in btw. From what I have read so far it has been quite an interesting game.

Myself (ryleh)
Awund (Chelms/Man)
Minko (Pangaea)

Everyone please update your game to V3.26 patch for Turn 83!

A brilliant stroke Agarthans  All the while I've been doing the rare small time maneuvers you've been setting up a big stroke, and boy does the stroke hurt. we'd admire your mastermind if we weren't on the receiving end :hurt:

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

It just occurred to me how far ahead you Agarthans thought it out and it was meant to be right on target (I thought I was unlucky) on the first hit rather then relying on slow attrition and luck!

Damn! That's one brilliant trick! I'll consider my loss a tuition fee. I'd never thought of that!

You're giving sansanjuan too much credit here. I'm not saying he isn't a good player, he definitely is. However this has nothing to do with Agartha.

I think I was the spankie last turn.

The llama server timer is killin' me here, I manage to stale again trusting that timer, this is getting really tiring and discouraging to get screwed multiple times like this.

It seems out of my few games on llamaserver this is the only game that gives me false timer, it's probably going to keep happening.

I don't really want to (or plan to) look at the new turn after another wonderful stale *sigh*. Anyway I think it's a sign.

Edit: I'll try to look for a sub, you may need to pause this unless you don't mind an AI.

Final,
That stinks. I'm away from home but the score table says the turn went well for me. If you want to reroll the turn say the word and I will vote with you. You have been singlehandedly fighting ... almost everyone and, considering your resources,... doing CRAZY well. Superb tactics with not a penny or gem wasted. Art. I for one would be sorry to see you go because of a bad server clock.

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I've staled as well the last turn, so of course I wouldn't mind a rollback. However I knew the when the deadline was, so the stall really was my own fault. As such I'm fine either way, if we continue it's ok for me too.
Finalgenesis: You've been playing really good, so it'd be a shame if you left this game. I really hope my recent actions had nothing to do with that.

Finalgenesis January 23rd, 2011 04:41 AM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

Awund, while your hit really hurt (applause :o ! Though I still suspect a puppet master ;)) I would never bail out from losing and always fight to the last to the point when I can make no difference as an AI. I do derive some small bit of satisfaction from exacting a price from my malefactors.

The problem is I can make good on my commitment against humans, but when its the server kicking your @$$, there's nothing I can do, no matter how good I do and what plans I have in progress, the server can (and did, and probably will continue to) screw me at any time. I can handle it once, but now that it's shown itself to be a persistent problem there's no point in playing this game against the server. This stale KILLED me (I don't even have to look at my turn), and it just pisses me off when I'm on the ball checking server time, doing diplo, planning, grand plans half in motion and generally playing a decent game, then get ****** by the server, again, with more to come down the line. It's like playing chess with a lunatic, who throws the rules out the window and shoves it's king up your *** while screaming "CHECKMATE! CHECKMATE!" (pardon my analogy).

Luckily the timer issue is just for this game (I have no timer problem on the other games), so I figure I can just drop this bugged game and cross my fingers it won't happen to my others.

I appreciate the free server llamabeast provides and am impressed how stable it is. Inevitably these little hiccup happens (that's why it's called bugs, impossible to exterminate :bug:), this hiccup in particular makes this specific game frustrating for me.

I realize I could keep track of the hosting interval myself, and I may have to go with that here if I continue (and sometimes I forget the last hosting time, or not sure when exactly it was hosted...). I rely on the timer at llamaserver and I really do use most/all of the time available planning diplo and planning moves (I have a gemflow forecast and spreadsheet for Gluttony for god's sake). Thus having a bad timer is a killer on me. You could say I'm whining and probably be half right, but the fact is a bad timer makes it hard for me to play and supremely frustrating given the effort I put in.

I did pm llamabeast about it, hopefully he can pinpoint what the problem is. If this problem can be fixed I'd that'd be great, I have no qualm getting my behind handed to me by humans, just not the server.

I didn't consider rollback actually, as it seems by general consensus to be a bad idea from what I read from the vets. I'm not sure what problem can come from rollback, so do tell if anyone knows... But if everyone is good with it though I definitely would want it to be honest. Meanwhile I'll see what luck I have in fixing the server timer (maybe impose on one of you to post server host time you see in forum? :( As it sometimes don't show up right for me).

If I recall rollback issues can sometimes manifest due to unit ids somehow getting out of synch. I've been through one rollback with no issues many moons ago. Perhaps llamabeast might comment. I will PM him and ask if he might comment.

No word from Llama so I posted in the main thread. If we still don't get any direction I say we give it a go. I did see the turn but will submit the same assuming that others that did not stale will do the same.

FinalG- Is there another form of compensation we could arrange for your lost turn? A cease fire for a couple turns and some gold/gems? Let us know.

PS Can you extend this turn 24 hrs?

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I've extended things another 24 hours while we work this out. I have no objections to a rollback, assuming that's workable. What do we need here?

Finalgenesis January 25th, 2011 09:34 AM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

It's okay, I'm not looking for compensation. It seems from replies in your thread that I can't get a rollback without the risk of ruining it for someone/everyone, I'm satisfied with the verdict, thanks for your efforts sanj! It's just not meant to be.

Should I look for a sub or are we okay with me turning AI? If AI I'll use 1 turn to pay back (or try to) what I owe before going AI, I won't be do anything with the turn except send out gems/items, so feel free to pick over the lean carcass and grab some freebie provs.

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm bailing out here, I am more then happy to fight a doomed war to the bitter end and get some good bruises from human players (and hopefully give some), whereas putting time + effort into a game that stales me out of the blue (twice) due to a bug is too painful to put up with and continue investing efforts into, I hope everyone understands. I suppose now that I'm aware of the timer bug for this game I can compensate in various ways to prevent future server screws if I stayed, but the damage has already been done and I can't find the will to pick up the pieces for a second time.

Edit: no reply from llama regarding the timer issue yet, but anyway it should no longer be one once I'm out of this game.

Best wishes then FinalG. I'm not in to spankings but I greatly enjoyed your cunning mischief. Also, mightly Volt is a still living legend. With the Aegis.. well... nuff said. (though Bob the Vastness is far more dear to me and Agartha looks forward to his return from the void with sweaty palms and palpitating hearts).

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

Indeed, Volt with Aegis is one thing I wanted to try out, unfortunately he's probably dead due to the stale. I guess I'll catch a glimpse of the horrific state of the catastrophic turn when I check in to settle the repayments and stuff.

Just to check, is 15:33 Jan 27th the hosting time people are seeing on the server now? It would be funny to stale another one again as a farewell gift from the server.

I screwed up my timing this turn as well - kind of stupid as it's even posted above but I guess I was in a hurry.

Doesn't look like I will make it to either one of my Dom machines prior to hosting.
Sorry - I don't want to be a staller. I guess I need to start jotting down the deadline in EST so I don't screw up again.

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I may or may not have extended the turn. That is, I told it to postpone hosting, and it said it would, but the server still lists the turn as being due Sunday, and the admin log doesn't show the postponement. So your guess is as good as mine on when it'll host.

Finalgenesis January 30th, 2011 09:49 AM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I'm seeing 16:35 GMT on Sunday January 30th as the host time, but I smell another timer glitch so don't trust that, someone else can confirm whether this (new? I don't recall the original host time) hosting time matches what they see.

On another note, after finally checking my turn and doing it with just tying up loose ends and other commitments in mind, I ended up doing the turn with some diplo correspondence on the side. I'll skip to just say that the mad dreams still call to me and I'll shamelessly stay, There is also a new loose end requiring payback to ensure we settle all our debt.

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I've turned quickhost off, this is so I can submit a proto-turn before a finalized one. In case I get screwed again by the timer I'll at least have a half done turn submitted.

Please don't turn quickhost on! I'll force host if all the turns are in before hosting time (Unless you also submitted half-turns, in which case please post here to not force host).

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

Caught your message just in time here, as the game's scheduled to host in 15 minutes or so. I delayed it by 24 for now, if you need the full 72 we can probably do that.

Stepping back a bit, I'd also like to take a look at the long view here. It seems unlikely that any one player is going to destroy everyone else in the near future. And aside from that, do we have any real victory conditions? I freely admit that I'm a bit out of my depth at this point in the game, and I don't really know if there's a way things are usually brought to a close.

Finalgenesis February 6th, 2011 10:30 AM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I presume usually there's a clear front runner (and usually beating any last real alliance facing them) that everyone accepts as the victor if there is no will to continue.

In this case that has yet to happen, I'd think of it as the best is yet to come. Aside from Agartha (and well, Ryleh defensively) everyone is sitting tight, I assume if one of the sitters makes a move the pace will really pick up. Of course I'm sure this game dragged on for longer then most of us thought, it would be perfectly good to find a sub if you're tired of it.

I'm finding this game the most educational in endgame tactics by multiples compared to any other game though, maybe it's because I get 10x the action compared to those other games. Things I picked up here is really serving me in other games...

Mauxe February 6th, 2011 06:50 PM

Re: Gluttony - LA Game - Running

I will freely admit that this is deep-end end-game 101 for me.
Definitely a but overwhelming to come into an empire like this as a sub and maintain any type of momentum.

I'm working through it all though and I'm hoping the game continues until the point of Armageddon.

My PMs to Awund(Man) and Mauxe(Patala) have not elicit a response yet though I have seen Mauxe post in another thread after I sent out the PM, I will extend turn by 24 hrs and post a sub seeking thread around when the turn is originally supposed to host.

I believe we should put the game on hold until subs can be found for Man and Patala once we're sure they really are silent quitting by tommorrow.

My apologies to FG and all. I thought my last PM to you was just prior(within) this current turn. I do not keep a sent copy so I cannot verify that. Although I did see your PM early this morning I had in my mind that I would be finishing my turn today and would address it then.

Sorry again :(
