And you both are sure you connected to the server using the network command right, not the play an existing game button.

iRFNA February 16th, 2011 12:20 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Oh, and as a somewhat unrelated hint, you can connect to the server, download a turn, play it offline, then upload it. After the turn downloads, just exit, then "play existing game" like an offline game. Finish your turn, then connect to the server, and it uploads it. I have an irrational fear of accidentally hitting the e key mid-turn and finding out I was the last person to the submit the turn...

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

i´m pretty sure i used the network command...But looking at the turn it seems the same thing as the others happened...By the turn number i never played turn 4...So of course i received no messages..My orders were for the turn that i skipped...

Finalgenesis February 16th, 2011 12:53 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Yes everything was done kosher, the X dissappeared over my flag connecting to the server, I played in two previous Mp games using Gandalf's server (I always take my turn offline, then connect to server and watch the X dissappear). As for why I know I staled without getting a "you staled" message:

1. I accumulated 2 turns of gold.
2. I accumulated 2 turns of gems (I kept track).
3. I kept track of the turns and it jumped from 3 -> 5
4. I bid on elephant merc. And when I checked, elephants was won by someone else, with 2 turns remaining only (rather then 3 turns).
5. and so on...

In fact as previous players mentioned, I received 0 messages, but i'm unsure whether I should have any (no battles, no events that I can see...etc).

For mods I have cbm 1.82, one age, and the standards, turn 1-3 went perfectly fine.

It seems a portion of the players in this game suffered this anomaly, probably some server anomaly derecognising the turns we handed in for some reason (no problems with trn file in 1-3 though hmmm). Ah well, the rest of you punks who had your turn without issues need all the help you can get I suppose. Probably something that should be raised to Gandalf to look into.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Well, I don't seem to have had any turn problems. Hopefully it gets sorted out quickly for the affected people though.

It looks like my last turn did not process properly either.

Finalgenesis February 16th, 2011 09:12 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

I've sent a pm to Gandalf, hopefully we can prevent this little monster from rearing it's head again here.

"
Greetings Gandalf,

Referring to the game "noobswithlowselfesteem".

On turn 4 the following players have been confirmed to be the subject of an unidentified time/space anomaly:

NaivePhilosopher - MA Ermor
Torgon - EA Niefelheim
Finalgenesis - MA R'lyeh
Silence0 - EA Tir na n'Og
Hylobius - MA Vanheim
Darkavenger211 - LA Ermor

For all of us, we submitted the turn to server (the X dissappeared over our flag), but our orders were not carried out and we all staled. on turn 5, all of us affected by this anomaly never received any messages at all (you staled..., luck events ... etc) resulting in an empty turn event box, for some of us there were observable events that did occur and should've been shown in the event box. We'd be grateful if you could look into it or tell us how to look into it. To my knowledge as confirm by players affected we all had the right mods enabled and had no problems from turn 1-3.

Let me know if there are any other information we can provide to you to help!

For the games setting: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=47017

Allow us to reiterate our thanks again for your time and effort in maintaining the server for our enjoyment!
"

Let me know if certain assumptions above is inaccurate, and if there are any other observations you have, or if you're also affected but not included in the above list. From the number of us affected, the timing and the message box phenomenon I'd say it's probably not originated from the user-side.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

As a note, I did get my event messages for the turn, however the attack that I ordered didn't occur, and the mercenary squad that I tried to rehire didn't get my bid (I wasn't outbid, as no one appears to have hired them.) My mage didn't start researching, scout didn't move, etc.

Hylobius February 16th, 2011 11:18 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Yes, it happened just as you listed Finalgenesis.

We are playing with new mods that may not have been tested enough, so that could be part of the problem.

Admiral_Aorta February 16th, 2011 11:49 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

I don't think any mod could cause this sort of problem, it's probably some kind of server issue.

Samhain February 16th, 2011 11:55 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

A server issue would be my guess as well. In a previous game on dom3minions, two turns in a row, the commanders recruited from my capital did not show. I am also fairly confident that the gold allocated to recruit the commanders was taken.

Samhain February 16th, 2011 11:58 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

I should also mention, I have had similar issues on llamaserver in the past as well. In my first game, again two turns in a row, a force that was to move to combine with another force for a major battle failed to move. The result was catastrophic for both battles and nearly lost me the game. I consider this rare server randomness just part of the quirks of Dominons3. My opponent, in that game at least, was also affected.

lwarmonger February 17th, 2011 12:06 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Better add me to the list of people who didn't get their turn accepted. I played it, and nothing happened. It was just like before, except I had more gold and gems now.

Finalgenesis February 17th, 2011 12:11 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

For llamaserver I've so far ran into a very rare issue occuring only in this one game I'm in, where the host timer gave me a time later then the actual host time, causing me to stale to catastrophic results, though it's a problem that can be avoided as long as you keep track of host time without relying on the server timer (Once I'm aware of this...). Otherwise llamaserver has been exceptionally stable for me with 0 problems for all other games.

For Gandalf server, the past 2 games has also been perfect and problem free.

I've generally been impressed by how stable the 2 servers have been.

I also look at these as super bad luck events "stale a turn" or "Some of your orders did not go through", which I consider to range from very bad to hugely catastrophic events.

On another note, the worst I've seen was an event that decreases dom on turn 2 (I thought they were all disabled, but apparently there's 1 or 2 event that could happen on turn 2 that hits your dom) causing insta nation kill to a player in this MP game I played. Imagine my surprise when I read a "xxx nation died" message on turn 2!

lwarmonger February 17th, 2011 12:52 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

Well, shouldn't have been too big of an issue... I think I'm doing all right insofar as expansion goes.

I would like to add to your list of super bad luck having your capital beseiged by vampires turn 2 (having an imprisoned bless pretender). That one game true I had taken misfortune 2 but that was nasty.

Since there isn't much of a mention of it, I'm guessing The Doom didn't strike anyone this time?

Finalgenesis February 17th, 2011 12:33 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 1: The Phantom Menace

No problems here, let's hope it doesn't happen again, though in my experience server-side anomalies tend to stick with the specific game it showed up in.

If my past experience is any judge recurrence is quite rare even then, cross your fingers!

No issues (and a lot of success, even though everyone else seems to be snapping up the mercenaries).

They say knowledge is power.

As we occupy a somewhat central position, we see and hear much, we would be willing to sell information at our disposal for small token fees.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Ermor killed four of mmy templars! Four in exchange for 80 (although it seemed like a lot more than that... had quite a bit of PD in that province Ermor?). I'd say that was an exchange that Ermor won.

Soyweiser February 25th, 2011 10:51 AM

Ah, yeah it seemed like you had quite a few more undead there than I had seen (or killed, according to the statistics). If I may make a recommendation though, as Ermor the resource you are horribly short on is money. Other than the obligatory 1PD, I would strongly recommend that you use all of your gold on temples, labs and forts. The more of these you have the more, and better, your spawns will be. And as you can see, even though you get quite a lot of bang for your buck with PD compared to other nations, you have an ever dwindling supply of gold (and you still don't get that much benefit from it, unlike when you build infrastructure).

lwarmonger February 26th, 2011 10:33 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Sooo... I fight my way past more PD and patrolling undead to lay siege to Ermor's home citadel only to find... 15 supplies in that territory. Now, I'm not exactly using a large army here, but 15 supplies? Sadly late age Ulm isn't exactly brimming with nature magic to overcome that little problem early on either. Gah!

Admiral_Aorta February 26th, 2011 10:48 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

And that's why everyone hates LA Ermor. It's like trying to invade the moon, if the moon was full of reanimated corpses that want to kill you.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

My fat cyclops don't get hungry, I think we eat rocks or something, not sure, going to have to look into that.

Also, if you are the last person to take your turn, be the first person to take it on the next. Do turn, turn it in, take next turn. That way, if you have a habit of stalling, at least you will only stall every other turn.
