Yes, take the extra points to get the next level. I'll give the new feat some thought.

Umm... you have not even 11000 XP. You need 15000 to get to level 6, and 21000 to get to level 7. There was no leveling up here...

Unless, of course, Randall is trying to say that we just earned 11000 experience for killing a few monsters, which would be insane.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Actually that is exactly what I was saying. I don't mind the criticism, it's exactly what I was expecting. I couldn't believe the figure myself, but I have checked it twice and if it's wrong I am missing something big. But I don't know what it is.

heres an example.

you fought 8 wolves with CR 1 each.
thats 300 xp each x 8 = 2400xp
divide the 2400 xp by the 5 party members at that time gives 480.
There was also 5 Ogre Skeletons (CR6). 6 Ogre Skeletons. 2 Assasins (CR6), and the Dark CLeric.

I thought I must have been wrong and it's CR for the whole encounter, but it insists I determine xp for each creature. Since my doubts seemed to be wrong (though I couldn't forget them) I thought I had forgotten how quickly levels can rise. I must admit though that I may have failed to represent the creatures encountered at their full strngth.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Those CRs you have are way too high. I think an Ogre is a large creature, which gives an ogre skeleton a CR of 1. Even if it is huge, it would have a CR of 2. So that is 11 of them at CR 1. Even an ogre itself only has a CR of 2...

11 ogre skeletons + 8 wolves = 19 x 300 / 5 = 1140 exp

What level were the assassins and the cleric?

You are the DM. You can adjust XP awards ad hoc. Too easy? Give less XP. Too hard? Give more. Use your judgement.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

CR of skeletons is determined by hit dice, not size. Ogres have 4, so they would be CR 2.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

CR is determined by size. I am looking at the Monster Manual right now.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

So am I. Besides that, here's what the SRD has to say about it here:

Code:

Challenge Rating: Depends on Hit Dice, as follows:
Hit Dice Challenge Rating
1/2 1/6
1 1/3
2–3 1
4–5 2
6–7 3
8–9 4
10–11 5
12–14 6
15–17 7
18–20 8

Is your MM the 3.0 edition perhaps?

Re: Online D&D Gaming

blech. They really screwed everything up with that stupid 3.5 edition. Oh well. The ogre skeletons were CR 2 then, still not 6.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Aha, so that's what went wrong. It was a CR 6 encounter but that doesn't mean they were CR6 Monsters. I'll recalculate the xp. I got it right with the Wolves though.

New calculation

Sulimo 4555
Lae'nial 2105
Shaorin 4555
Draknor 3230
Rasorow 2105

Well, there goes my level-up. I don't even get to level 6 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif . Oh well, at least it gives you plenty of time to consider my new feat.
