Great idea, GT. Lets all brag about V-day. I kicked my Last lovely to the curb, mere days before xmas. I spent most of the day thinking about calling up an awfully cute friend of mine, but decided that I would rather keep her as a friend, than abuse her as anything else. So I spent the evening on a pub crawl with a mate of mine in a futile effort to cheer up the single most reclusive bastard that I know. It didnt work.
[edit: reclusive = him, not i] The closest I came to anything nearing romance, was raising a pint with some lonely thing who was drowning her sorrows at one of the taverns I crawled into. but no regrets. while far from triumphant, I cant say that i had a bad time. This is as good a place as any to warn people about this:
If you get an e-mail saying that someone has sent you a valentine from "valentines-ecards.com", don't run the "card.exe that" that it asks you to download. While technically not a virus, what the .exe does is install three spyware programs on your system, without asking for any permissions. |

Hey peopel, I'm partially back, my system got a nasty worm and I lost everything, had to re-format my drive 2x to finally wipe it. Just a warnning, in cking it out, I found it is a fairly new worm, less then 3wks old, doesn't even have a name yet, it is designed to bypass firewalls and virus protection and it starts by very slowly eating files, starts with audio, hi-memory then drivers, It got all my drivers and hi-mem, spent hrs trying to repair but ended up having to re-format, no other way, it also would lock up the cd tray once in awhile, so be aware and make sure all virus updates are up to date. Its taken me days and many hrs just to get back here..... UGH http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Ahh, the brewskis sure tasted good, tks, when i talked with Dell tech they didn't know a name yet for the $&^%&^(&^9 worm, supposed to be new, I don't know if go back would have done any good, it wiped out the hi mem, all drivers, audio, etc, even if you went back, it could still be in your system as it got around a firewall and my virus protection, I'm thinking of going to Black Ice or ZoneAlarm, any one have opinions.
David G. is it possible to put a avatar on the cantina header? The doggone worm interrupted my most studious research into the sexual orientation of the underwater creatures of Rambunktious IV a most forsideious endeavor. From what I have learned they have incorporated something similiar to the "Gryphin Position" with a CTW twist... I have three middle names, of which one is a family name and one reflects the fact that I was born in the tail end of the 1960's and I am sure my mum was on some illegal pharmaceuticals... Question 2 - Ebay - can someone tell me why whenever I bid on something, irrespective of how high my max bid is or otherwise and how close to the end of the auction I log on, someone always beats me without fail. I have been trying tobuy a boardgame on ebay for about 2 months now and I have never yet one!! |

GT, the 'chat' room is one of two places. First is IRC (SE4), the other is Yahoo. Both are live. It is fun. About ebay; I have developed a pretty good way to acquire item's I want. Some 25, at Last count. 1) Find the item you want. Check the bidding history. If there 'have not' been any bids, don't make one, just track the item. 2) Wait until about 15 mins before the auction is about to go off. Re-check the bidding history. Notice if there have been repeat increases. This well be a tell if someone has placed a 'maximum bid'. And ebay is placing bid's for that user. 3) Now decide how much you are willing to bid. In 'Word Pad' (or whatever text editor you like) type in that amount. Now split the difference between 'your' top bid and the current bid. Bid that amount. Load a second browser window. Go the bid page. You are going to use this one to update the page. At the end of bidding, this is done every 5-10 'seconds'. OK, you are ready to kick *** on all those wanta bee bidder's. Using this method I have only lost out on 8 items I wanted. 3 went past what I was willing to pay, 4 never made the minimum bid required (this is what I think you have witnessed 'David') and one I lost to a bidder quicker than me. I do like to think I am a bit of a salty sea-dog who likes to make people have a lick of the cat! Ahaa m'hearties, splice the mainbrace and call the cat a bastard I am the first of my line to be a lawyer. My father is still getting over the shock.
