Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Server closed.... in the middle of a war. Fun times; the gate is breached, "we" hired mercenary companies for support. (expensive, that)

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Yes. I figured nobody would head out to die for 2sp a day, when they could adventure and potentially get 100's of gp. So all mercenaries want a month's wage, in advance. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
(Besides, if I didn't he could have hired 3,000 mercenaries!) Oh, and log is up. |

The specific talk about the economics of hiring mercenaries was on March 12 (log attached).
We settled on 2 sp * level^2 for each mercenary, 6 sp * level ^2 for a leader, food for the duration (5 sp per person per day), minimum duration of one month (30 days); at that rate, a band of 20 level-1 mercs with a level 3 leader ran to a little under 600 gp (6*3*3=54 sp/day to pay the leader, 20*2=40 sp/day to pay the grunts; 21*5=105 sp/day to feed them all, so 162 gp for the leader, 120 gp for the mercenary grunts, 315 gp for the food for a total of 597 gp; rounded to 600 gp for miscalaneous expenses) As a side note, each of those 20 level-1 warriors is getting roughly 6 gp for the action (2 sp a day, 30 days - a month's salary), in addition to getting trail rations suffiecient for the month. As trail rations are 5 sp a day, the food is more expansive than the Mercs, at that level. Likewise, over 1/4 of the money spent is profit for the mercenary commander. Edit: Of course, we are raiding a fortress to retrieve a rather pretty penny for - what was the name of that town - which will presumeably cover the expense, and then some. |

I don't think I gave it a name - Just the City of Clerks.

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Server closed.
One ogre, down to EXACTLY 0 HP, a bandit fortress cleaned out, roughly 25 mercenaries down (after deciding that mass battles are much easier to handle as cancellation reactions....). 100 exp for the mechanii puzzle, loot to be determined in a post on Monday by Narf. Orginize the loot, have Jacob cast Detect Magic on it; mundane armor and weapons given to mercs, rest kept for later investigation. Also, stabalize any mercs (and bandits) that we can. Hole up for a few days for healing via Cure Light Wounds. |
Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Quick update:
It appears that most of the treasury was distributed to other sites (Including some on the surface. Yes, I did notice comments in that direction http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ). Amount left TBD. (Have to balance keeping the player(s)? happy with power level http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ) |
Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
I'm honestly planning on simply turning the gold in, and claiming the reward. After all, it's just metal.
Other loot, though - as I said, mundane armor + weapons (pretty much what the opposing bandits were wielding / wearing) goes to the mercs, as a combat bonus, say. The rest, though.... For amount, you could just figure the remaining for the CR of the Ogre (3, if it's the SRD cersion) by standard methods, and assume that the other bandits didn't have much (they were what, CR 1, individually?) that didn't get passed out to the mercs as mundane equipment; perhaps a few coins and some gemstones, but nothing earth-shaking. |
Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Party change of plans noted. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
With the previous party composition, the exact details of what would happen after were...Sketchy. Any comments on where you would like to campaign to go? |
Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.(Edit
Methinks "Shady" is a bit more applicable than "Sketchy".
But hey, the people that were wanting to be very greedy have wandered off..... I might be inclined to further investigate that odd anklet picked up early on - it resisted magical identification, so it is likely either a psionic item, a minor artifact, or an intelligent item; as we have come across a university in our travels, that might be a good place to ask about (or find a Psion with Identify - which should be much less expensive than the magical variety, lacking the Material Component). Push come to shove, he could just try it on; he's got a pretty good will save, after all. |
