Re: PBW RACE TO SEV TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
At any rate, 48hrs would get us through 100 turns in 6-7 months. So there's a chance we could finish before SeV comes out. At least the first round. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: PBW RACE TO SEV TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Perhaps a medium tech start with medium tech cost will speed things along a bit?

Re: PBW RACE TO SEV TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Not that I mind 6-12 month games Geo, but I guess it will be hard to committ to the tournament once SEV is out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
My suggestions are: 3 Planets and Medium tech cost. Think that would make the games a lot quicker, having a clear winner in 80 turns or so. |
Re: PBW RACE TO SEV TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Imagine you are in a game to win a copy of SE5 and the game comes out. And people are scarfing it up and talking about how great it is. Could you wait? And if you went ahead and bought a copy and then won, it would render the prize a bit redundant.
Having said that, I haven't even read when it is expected to go into Beta. And Beta should take 3-6 months, shouldn't it? Anyway, just running my mouth. I'm still in no matter. |

If tech costs are high, and everyone will on average have access to five systems, how are they going to afford to research mines without risking being rolled over by someone who researched, say, DUC V? And if they can't, then the mid-game is not going to lock up the way it normally does, is it? So we could be seeing eliminations and a resolution pretty quickly. Bringing tech costs down to medium might bring mines within reach, and actually slow the game down. And a low-tech "cavemen in space" brawl might be sort of fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Or if people really resent High tech cost, why not ban mines altogether? Re: PBW RACE TO SEV TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Same here as Renegade, I don't think I will be able to play either (and, as you can see, I shouldn't start yet another game when I am currently lagging behind).
If I can however give my two cents, mines are actually very cheap to research even with High tech cost, since it only affects later technology levels while the first one costs the same. So Mines will cost 100,000 research points to get as usual with Construction, which is certainly not too difficult to get. And if you can get a lot of trade treaties, you may very well have so many research points it isn't even funny (basically, gaining 200,000 research points isn't so uncommon in most games). I guess, however, that the early game will see the destruction of a few Empires and hopes, but it should go back to a normal game later on (ten systems are enough with treaties and good planets, if you can get the said treaties obviously). |
