Have you enabled Threaded view Loser? I know that Tesco has, and he is having problems seeing the SEIV forum...

Been in touch with Fyron on this one. Just wanted to let anyone else, interested, know that this does not appear to be the problem.

I wasn't set for threaded, anyway.

Loser, I think Richard is working on this. Please PM him with a screenshot of what you're seeing if you can.

Also, there's a feature at the very bottom of the forum home page which allows you to view a list of new Posts - you select from new in the Last 24 hours, 48 hours, etc. I'm finding this helpful in this transition.

I want the old order back. The new format is confusing as I'll get out and a pain to click once to open the thread and then on large threads guess which page you need to be at in order to see the Posts you haven't read yet. It should be easy to fix in MySQL...In your query statements just change the sorting order from ASC to DESC or vise versa...

That might cross a line. Some of the template CSS files can probably be modified safely. But the php files might be another matter. It is a commercial product. We might have to wait till the support contract is up before changing those files, if its allowed at all. Especially if someone has to dive in and remember what was done everytime an upgrade is loaded.

Actually it is very easy, making it user configurable will take a little time. And yes we have to do that because as much as the se4 crowd, and myself personally remember that, likes the reverse order it is the number 1 complaint we have on the forum period, since almost no other board I have ever seen does that.

But keep in mind we all like the reverse order, I hate this new way of presentation.

I think he meant, it would just automatically take you to the first page with new Posts. It would calculate which page that is on. If there are 17 new Posts and you have it display 15 Posts per page, you have to do math to figure out you need to click on the 2nd to Last page number. Why not have the forum capable of doing this for you?

Well it could try, if someone wanted to take the time. However it seems likely to be wrong with some frequency. For example, the old logic for this was not checking each thread - just the Last time you visited, and somehow was different for each computer you used to visit the board, and certainly didn't know which Messages you'd actually read in a thread.

Actually the forums already seem to be programmed to do that. Read and unread post status seems to be stored in the database. I am on a different computer than this morning, and the read/unread status seems to be accurate. This is the standard way to handle new post indicators with database backend forums, such as phpBB and this UBB Threads. The old Intel forum software stored read/unread in cookies, so different computers had different markers.

Woot! Richard you rock. It is good to hear that you will be bringing it back.

Of course, once it is an option it will slowly die out, as new members come to the board and do not choose the strange 'senseble order' option. But as long as it's available to those of us who dig it it's all good.

By the way, Richard, I have sent you the screenshot and I'd love to hear if there's anything you can tell from it and, Annette, your suggestion is a more palettable workaround than the one I was useing. Thank you.

It looks like you can do this now. It's in your user prefs and you can have it display newest or oldest post first.

Probably already known by others but I just fond this myself...

Re: Reverse thread replies order?

Yup that works now. At the top of the forum Richard left a note saying that he fixed it...

There is a new configuration in your MyHome that will allow you to select the way FlatMode Posts are displayed. This will allow you to select if you want to see Newest Post first or Oldest Post First. Thanks Richard Arnesen
