great thread iron giant.

Perhaps this can be evened out for the next game.

The cost of a fighter. Never ever did I think about it. As I have used the carrier early in games to do some damage.

I always felt the problem with fighters was that they did not evolve with the game.

If you think back to the beginning. The max units and ships. Fighters were in the balance then. But the game evolved and units were kept at the initial level of strength.

I am a fan of the units. Sat's and fighters and mines and wp's. They never got their true strength. Would have been a great counter in the games of rock paper cutting things....

Starhawk's last post was clearly referring to a mod.

In the unmodded game, PDC has a +70% accuracy advantage on top of combat sensors and training (which fighters don't have, in addition to their ECM being worse than ship ECM), and like all to-hit mods in SE4, it ADDS - 70% is an enormous extra shift.

Auto-targetting generally means PDC get more shots in, and concentrate on moving PD targets as they come in, and generally have greater range than fighters, and incoming fighters fire at the end of their movement, so a fighter stack gets nailed by all enemy ship PDC in range before it gets a shot off.
