In fact, limping units are *good* for morale, because they will still be alive when everybody else is taking damage, so your survivor bonus for morale checks will be marginally higher.

Yeah who cares about a handful of guys who are limping? Or lost thier arms or whatever? I mean... maybe if like 50% or more of the squad was afflicted or something? But usually if a squad is taking damage like that they will just die outright vs. whatever caused it. So overall, no you really dont need to worry about afflictions.

The only time you actually care about wounds is when you are talking about your high value units. Mages, low-quantity/high power elites (elephants, vans, etc), and SCs.

Yes, Max, and if I can manage to get my limp percentage up to 50% I will achieve great victory through not routing! This is why Fomoria always wins. But with other nations I need to sort through my units to find enough limpers to put in my army. The unafflicted can stay at home doing something useful they are more suited to, like patrolling.

Ironhawk, all my units are high value. :( Even the limpers. :snif:

I would be a much better gamer if I could stop caring about my pixels. But I just can't betray them! Okay that was only somewhat related.

[Embarrassed cough] Actually, vfb, I thought I was responding to somebody's post saying that limping hurts morale, but I guess I imagined it. Limping is not as nice as having an undamaged unit, obviously; I just don't see a need to try to kill limping units off. (I'd call a limping unit somewhere between 80% and 90% as effective as an unafflicted unit.) Larger squads are better (for morale purposes, not necessarily vs. arty mages) so I also wouldn't split limpers out just to keep my lines straight.

Are you still joking around about affliction squads, or have you transitioned to making serious points? It's hard to recognize irony on the Internet.

Ironhawk, I guess you might also care about afflictions if you don't have enough leaders to move your whole army, and you want to pick the creme de la creme and leave the chaffiest at home. (Don't forget that 'E' on the army setup screen selects units with 2 or more starts, 'W' selects those with afflictions, and 'S' picks out those that are starving.)

They have fought well for their god. They deserve to be left behind in a nice province where they can be PD until the end of their days.

What? You mean the devs put in keypresses to make it easy for us to seperate Experienced, Wounded, and Starving from our armies? I guess they liked the idea also.

A L for limpeds and a C for crippleds would have been of great help too :D

Aggh, Max, you have forced me to be serious!

It depends on the nation and forces I am using, but sometimes for critical battles I actually will look at afflictions, and if I need bodyguards on mages then limpers can do that instead of being accidentally in some "attack rear" squad. Or limpers with shields can be in the front as arrow decoys, on "hold & attack" or "guard commander" or "attack closest" depending on where I'd prefer the opposing army to shoot, assuming at least some of their archers are on "fire closest". It's only diseased units (and militia etc) that will get orders like "attack cavalry."

I'll make sure that if the first archer in a row lights up that he's not diseased and still has all his important appendages. If I see my enemy has been shooting my archers then I'll use the 'W' key to make some groups of damaged archer archer-decoys.

Or if I have healing available, I'll pull out the units with non-trivial afflictions and send them to the hospital.

For critical battles I will also use the 'E' key to make elite squads.

There's not much point in doing any of this if my army is so afflicted that they'd be better off just begging in the streets, or I have overwhelming forces, or the opposing army has overwhelming forces.

Yeah, that's why Llamabeast made the "Good Guy" version of the Final Sacrifice mod. ;)
