A new map editor would be helpful esp if they start adding new ingame features and perhaps new planet, warp and storm types.

About those arbitrary point generation abilities... What happens if you use them on a facility? Is the generation affected by happiness? Population? Planet value? What happens if you use this sort of ability to make some minerals as well as the normal mineral production ability on the same facilty? Would it keep on producing if the planet riots, though just from the "arbitrary" generation ability?

Also, can you provide the specific names for these abilities, so that people could start work now? The format for the comma separated lists for Vehicle Type and Target Type would be great as well.

Using them on a facility would be interesting ?

They should be influenced by all 3 factors you mentioned ie happiness, population and planet value.

Producing through a riot - perhaps they could have their production values cut by 75% if the planet is rioting ?

Fyron February 25th, 2004 04:45 AM

Re: Post 1.84 beta history

Actually it would be rather bad if they were affected by those things. We already have perfectly good resource abilities that are affected by them. A second set would be redundant (for facility use).

Any new suggestions ? then perhaps a new value to affect these orbital intel and research facilities ?

Old savegames do not load so maybe a new thread of transitioning to the new Version would be worthwile?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Savegames are convertable to the new Version. The savegames will work, but as with any time you change data files, a turn will have to be run as host first before the players can open the turn using the new Version.

Ok, so, to transition to the new Version, all the players need to send in their turns with the old patch, install the new patch, host installs new patch, then downloads files, runs turn manually on their machine, then uploads files to PBW and voila new patched turn is sent out...?

thanks,

Alarik

For some reason I had to re-install in order to get the patch to work.

I got an error saying my Version was invalid...most odd!

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That would work, yes. Although it is actually uneccesary for the host to download and run the turn offline. They can have us change the Version of their game on PBW (once we get the new Version setup) and it will be run on the server once the players upload their .plr files generated with the old Version.

OK, just to confirm what I think you said:

I set the PBW game to NEW verison, Players send in OLD Version turns, then the turns they GET BACK will be NEW Version turns, so they will have to upgrade to NEW Version before they can open them? Izzat correct?

Thanks, sorry for pestering, just want to make sure I get this correct...(the logistics of figuring out and keeping straight which games are which Version is not something I am looking forward to..)

thanks again,

Alarik

Ok, just d/l the new patch. How will affect the mods I play? Will I have to wait for patches to the mods, or can I play them as is?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">[/QB][/quote]That is correct, EXCEPT, currently the game owners do not have access to change the game Version once the game is created. You will need to post a message to the admin requests forum on PBW and one of us will switch it for you.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">*Probably* they will be ok. There is nothing in the new Version I am aware of that breaks any mods. In fact he tried to be careful about that specifically. However, it's always possible that some change will have unintended consequences. It was difficult to beta test all the changes in the stock game. It's impossible to check all the mods out there and guarantee they are 100% compatible as well.

Try it, and report any problems immedietly to the modder in question so they can get a new Version released.

Grrr...

Stuck at work for another ten hours. Working fourteen hour days means no time after work for anything but sleeping. Must. See. New. Patch. In. Action.

I need, at least, to see the new data files... just to look at them...

Can't install the patch without the game, fair enough, so that means....

I'm going home early today.

It's of course nice to see a new patch released, but since this is the Last I hoped it won't be released yet. Too many unfixed bugs which I've posted to MM.
