Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
And the individual gameCompanions look like this (These aren't needed to run the game but they give you more info and options, it's recommended that one use them) http://ruatha.homelinux.org/080_5.jpg :

Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
suggestions:
first: check box "retain old turn zip files " function saves a copy of each turns zipfile in a subdir of savegame called turns second: entrybox "im host maintain turn backups at interval of # function downloads and saves a copy of each turns host data zipfile in a subdir of savegame called host turns third: function to auto scan old turns and auto add all old events to current file in order (good for starting at turn 48 of a pbw game) reasons 1st: i like to have backups 2nd: backups are nice for doing turn rollbacks if needed or going manual if the server goes down etc why pbw doesnt have a function to auto mail each turn to host once all files are uploaded i dont know plus it could eliminate the need of the pbwserver to retain more than 5 turns of zip files 3rd: besides being a good feature for exisating players in long games it will also be good for a new user who just discovered the program and maybe he got to turn 10 or something before he found the program |

1.If one uses the PBW on-line download mode right now it doesn't download the zipped turns, only the actual files. But I could make a backup function that zips the files. 2. A problem there is that the turns currently executes when all has uploaded their turns, there is no way that I can get the info that the turn will execute now and grab the files before it executes, so I can never get the complete host files for each turn, there will always be some players missing. And I f I tell the app to download the hostfiles before the deadline, well if everyone has uploaded before the turn will already have executed, so for no 2 there is a no go, sorry. 3. a no go here too. The Savegames are encrypted and I can't extract the events from them, one has to write one's own events in the event editor, sorry. But the first suggestion will propably make it to ver 0.9. Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
Finally, the boosts to my ego that I've been fishing for http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif , thanks!
Application is finished. So far I've found about 15 minor bugs in about the same amount of minutes of testing! Will fix those tomorrow I hope and search for more, tweak it some and make minor adjustements and hopefully get time to start the Dogscoff plug-in pack. Beta release 0.8 sometime in the far away part of next week I estimate. Atleast before friday the 13th to enable easy access for all to the #se4 chat with Aaron! (Easy access means pressing the OK button a few times while setting up the IRC settings in the Companion, no need to fill in anything, just accept the pre-defined suggestions.) Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
Thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Praise is what's get me going! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
The current package is now compressed 1.6 M. The main exe is uncompressed 800K. These are the known issues (seems the plug-in pack won't be done in time to release): THINGS TO DO: ============= // More plugin parameters // make way yo access PBW settings from settings page //earlier Versions of exe and savegames/Gam files BUGS: ===== // sometimes dosesn't count players left to upload correctly? // OSD blurs text if underlying form is moved. //Sometimes if failed to access web page too many times, the PBW scan button might not reappear until app restart. // All mail Messages aren't displayed with full content. //Sometimes starts another individual game companion than requested //Sometimes doesn't always unpack files, gives a file the name "XXX" when on-line download //Sometimes shows disabled mods at upstart. Now off to work! [ August 06, 2004, 07:23: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
I won't have much time to work on this during the weekend, now I'll work from lunch (12.00) to tomorrwo morning (09.00), hopefuly get some sleep during the night.
Tomorrow we'll be buying a new floor to a room and on sunday I'll be putting down that flor and perhaps get some time to scrape some paint and repaint some doors and windows and kill some of all these ants around the house. And the weather looks good so we've got to go and bathe some too. Here's a picture of why development of the companion sometimes is slow (But release is still planned to next week). (Married on midsummers eve half a month ago. 15 years since we met, so we thought it about time...) http://ruatha.homelinux.org/brollop2.jpg [ August 06, 2004, 08:46: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
Congrats Ruatha, You have a great looking family. (although your son looks like he's a wee bit mischivous.) LoL But I guess all boys at that age are right?
Have a great weekend, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
It is always nice to see what the actual faces of some of the members here at Shrapnel look like.
But congrats on the marriage Ruatha and we know the family comes first before the companion so no worries. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Congrats on the wedding. As I discovered myself Last year, being married ain't so bad after all, is it? |
Re: The SE4 companion - Why the long wait?.
Nope, it's quite good.
First we thought about doing it purely for practical reasons and becourse our daughter is 7 and her princes dreams are at a height... We didn't think it would change anything for us as we already knew that it was the two of us, as it had been for 15 years and surely will be forever. But it became something more and it feels really good! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
