Vanhiem had the horror spamming artifacts. Thats a serious loss for him to lose them - they were quite powerful when used together!

War with Man!

This turn, Man attacked the peaceful and serene lizardfolk of C'tis. First belief that this was an honest mistake were shattered by the revealation that it was a pre-meditated attack! The lizards are now at war with the dastardly Man!!

As for why you choose to provoke an early war with C'tis (of all nations??): It was suggested that you have never fought them in MP. If so, consider the next couple of turns your lesson. First time is a freebie http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

the only exposed area i have is the area directly bordering ctis and its being reinforced because im a paranoid teenager. because of my current military (and magical) set-up out of all the people who could attack me ulm are near the bottom of the threat ladder

heheh. that sounds like a challenge ;p

really, I don't think you should have Ulm at the bottom of your threat ladder. that's almost... insulting... and kind of becomes like an incitement http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Mictlan\'s Pretender

It has been brought to my attention that Mictlan is using an illegal pretender: The Smoking Mirror. We agreed in the thread (on page 2-3 for me) that shape-changing pretenders were not acceptable because they were a little too tough and only available to a handful of nations.

In retrospect, I realize that I did not officially post this decision in the top post of the thread. So I can see how it could have been overlooked. But still it does give Mict's pretender a slight advantage over others in the game.

archaeolept January 1st, 2006 07:33 PM

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

ahh, balance it by engendering hatred against him :p - though i would say it is a significant advantage...

i'm also a bit concerned about whether the jots are using the skratti... just because their god seems to be so good at killing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Jotuns are not nearly as good at killing as Pangaea's druid. Have you seen him in action? Very impressive.

on the subject of the smoking mirror, I think its to late to restart, and in all honesty I am not to bothered by it, though I imagine mictlan's neighbors are a little more troubled.

The rules said "1) All pretenders were once human servants of the Old Ones and therefore must be mortal humans (tho they can be mounted). "
My pretender is a human mortal as specified by this rule. Of course I wasn't aware of the discussion saying otherwise. I think it's common that game rules are posted and updated in the first post.

Anyway, How do you guys wish to proceed? I am not interested in having "unfair" advantage. Since the game is early I don't mind resigning.

archaeolept January 2nd, 2006 10:45 AM

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

ehh, it was a mutual error. I don't mind; resignation is surely too drastic.

Morkilus January 2nd, 2006 04:57 PM

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

I figure if someone can have the Freak Lord, some shapeshifting guy shouldn't be that different. Don't resign! This is a fun game. I'm a neighbor and don't see any problem...

Cainehill January 2nd, 2006 05:09 PM

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

Eh, Freak Lord is explicitly a human pretender, usually regarded as being in the "trash" category : 1 dominion (*), 10 point magic paths, HPs comparable to all the other humans. Smoking Mirror : 20 point paths, 2 starting dominion, shapeshifting into a form that keeps all its magic but gets 41 base HPs, 2-3 times as many as all the other human pretenders.

That said, I don't see too much of a problem with it - not like when I ran into a Shedu in a supposed human-pretender only game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

* : Base game, all the humans had dominions of 1; Conceptual Balance mod has tweaked that a bit over time, as the archmage at one point had 2, as does Pythium's Divine Emperor.

I'll sell bows of accuracy to anyone else who wants them, for 10 astral pearls and 50 gold or 5 air gems and 50 gold.

WraithLord January 2nd, 2006 06:29 PM

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

This is beside the point but come to thing of it, the rational that pretenders with some advantage that are only available for some of the nations should be disqualified might apply to some more human pretenders.

For example the alchemist. Alchemy by itself is a clear advantage and he's only available to a few nations.

I guess it has to do with wether the idea behind having human pretenders is thematic or for balancing. Because for perfect balancing we might as well have all taken the same pretender. but that's not fun imo.

The game is fun and for sure I'd like to continue playing. I take it that this advantage isn't considered as a problem by fellow players, so I'll happily continue http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The discussion behind no-shapeshifters centered more around the fact that shapeshifters are significantly more durable than the humans which were available to other nations. The Skratti also fell into this category.

Morkilus January 3rd, 2006 11:43 PM

uh oh... mod issues

Perhaps one of the experts can help me on this... I might have just screwed up my turn because I turned on the 5.2 CB mod to make a God for another game, then forgot to switch back to 5.1 for this game. Does anyone think this might be a problem? I logged in with the right mod and sent the turn again, so it was the same as before... ugh, I feel sick if I screwed up the game...

Cainehill January 3rd, 2006 11:55 PM

Re: uh oh... mod issues

Nope - as long as you have the proper mod installed, it gets turned on when you play the game, and you'll get an error if you don't have the required mod installed.

The thing to be careful of, is when you have been playing with weird mods, and go to host / start a new game : the mods from the game you were just playing, are still turned on by default.
