After beating the British forces near Gazala, it is time to take the prize that eluded Rommel in 1941: Tobruk
The city is defended by several ex-Italian fortified posts, now occupied by South African forces. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
although reports earler stated the english were already beaten at gazala the battle is still going on. the british commander has be reached by the frst german units trying to storm a ridge in the dessert. meanwhile the allies get more reeinforcements trying to beat back the axis battlegroup.
a huge amount of vehicles have been lost after only 30 minuits of fighting but it it looks like KG Huaser might once again be victorious. knowing that they are to continue and take tobruk only makes them push harder since they hope to surprise the defenders of the harbour. |

here the situation at tobruk right now. things are still relatively quite as the infantry moves in for the attack. most heavy fightimg has been between the artillery and air units.

elements of KG Hauser have reached the outskirts of the Tobruk while capturing the fortified positions guarding the road. The Italian company is currently negotiating the surrender of the south african Battalion HQ with the last platoon of Matilda tanks driving around in the desert cut of from any friendly unit. their surrender might come soon ,too. enemy air activity was quite heavy and 2 Flak guns have been lost and 2 tanks damaged. since we have total control of the battlefield repairshould be no problem. AD has to be improved but unfortunatly no Guns have been captured so far maybe other units had more luck. Surely there will be lot of AD guns in Tobruk itself. Losses have been moderate with 32 men injured 3 mia and 13 kia. 154 Prisoner have been taken. The KG ist still comabt ready it needs some help in the AD department though if total air superiority can be guaranteed. |

Welcome back!
After the fall of Tobruk, British forces are falling back towards Egypt. It seems a bunch of them are conducting a rearguard action near the town of Mersa Matruh. Take the city. |

As the KG closes in on mersa matruh Stukas attack the city in a prelimanery bombardment showing a garisson devoid of any air defence but full of tanks and infantry. Damage inflicted by the 20mm guns is limited but the pilots' reports show that there is a serious fight ahead. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
Welcome back to you too hehe. During summer the advance is slowed down a bit as you can imagine :)

Mersah matruh was nothingmore then a speed bump. the only losses were 2 trucks and 2 tanks as well as 5 kia 2 mia and 10 wia. Mainly due to the persistant raf air attack which returned again and again even after loosing 3 of the 4 planes in the area.
The luftwaffe had a little sucess damaging various allied vehicles and destroying 2. 300 men were taken prisoner of the infantry that couldnt retreat on time. the tanks move on further to the west. |

The British have retreated into Egypt, taking up positions at a bottleneck at El Alamein. We will have to break through their lines here, if we want to advance.

Arriving at the gate to egypt Hauser receives the questionable honor to be the first to try to break the uk defensive lines. He decides on a plan that relies on a fast and concentrated blow along the coast since the units are short on almost everything far from their supply bases and cant afford to slug it out slowly against the allies sitting close to their main supply port in alexandria.
First all available planes will attack followed by smoke to block of any view on the motorised units rushing to the front line. its a one chance attack if the situation gets unfavorable itll be dificult. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
Ts4Ever, is there a chance you could do similar thing for me? I don't know though how to attach scenarios for campaign and move my core forces. If this is a problem, standard save to scenario conversion is fine for me.
I am interested in French Infantry Company (or Battalion) long historical campaign since 1940 till end of war. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
half an hour after the start of the attack the advance is still going steady. The fighting so far has revealed stronger british army positions than ever encountered before. Itll be quite the task getting through especially KG Huaser isabit short on engineers.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
sastroop you have to go to the campaign screen. then you choose an empty campaign slot and edit campaign. then you can add scenarios as you wish. The first one should be a short one just to buy your units. the next one could be designed by ts4ever then. if i get around to it i will prepare something next week. i can also make some setups for you if ts4ever is to busy.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
Could you specify what do you mean by "setup a campaign"? Should I simply buy my units, name then to my wish and send you a save of first battle?
Which size would be better for you, Company scale or Battalion scale. It will surely affect opposing sides in defence and offence. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
I mean setup a campaign with the campaign editor. I can then send you the scenarios for it. Just read the beginning of this thread. We should make a new thread for this btw so we don't spam this one.

sastroop it should be enough to unzip this attached files to the campaigns folder. i put 500 points for thestarting core you can change that by using the edit campaign button.
once ts4ever has prepared a scenario just unrar it into your scenario folder then add it to the campaign using the campaign editor. i might also join in even though there is barely time for the other campaign right now... |

KG Hauser keeps slogging on against the thick defensive lines of the uk army. finally a gap in the barbed wire has been created (took 10 minuits...) under intense artillery bombardment by the enemy. now the advance along the coast can start. unfortunatly a company of grant tanks has arrived and the raf is still in the area as well immobilising 2 armored vehicles so far.
it is still possible to break through but time is not on our side. hopefully now that a gap in the defensive works has been created things will become more fluent. i am still not sure how to best clear barbed wire it takes ages compared to mine clearing. |

after 90 minuits of fighting breakthrough has almost been achieved near the coast. The British commander is already burning documents in his hq as nearby explosions shake the building. The Tank companies he had in reserve have been comitted to battle. the rest of the one tasked with beating back the breakthrough in front of the HQ positions can be seen burning a few hundred meters to the east.
the RAF keeps strafing the advancing enemy but they just keep advancing covered by the smoke of burning vehicles. also small company seized forces are reported further south moving through the minefields. After the secret documents are all destroyed the commander decides to go move into the trenches with his staff since his transport has been destroyed by artillery and he has little chance outrunning tanks so he might as well stand and fight. as he leaves the front he sees a dramtacilly different picture. instead of the german infantry storimng the trenches in front of him all he can see is the rest of his defense works covered in flames and the remains of his tank company but no sight of the enemy at all. just as breakthrough has almost been achieved he seem to have retreated. http://resources3.news.com.au/images...nq-alamein.jpg |

Re: campaign scenario setup help
Just as the enemy lines were broken came the bad news. the attack had failed on other parts of the front and now with with everything comitted and a dozen kia and more then 50 wia hauser had to order a retreat. luckily the uk units in this area had been beaten quite badly so they didnt have the strength to mount a counterattack.
still all units had to retreat in order to consolidate forces and prepare a defensive line. some replacements had arrived as rumors of a planned allied offensive. air attacks by the raf have been increased and some scout groups have been picked up. something is up for sure. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
Somethingwas up and it materialised in the form of a tank battalion supported by an infntry battalion attacking our the axis lines. artillery and air support was also avialable but in the end only one point of the line was breached and but mainly due to the 88 guns running out of ammo. in the end counterattacks on the flanks by italian and german armour encircled the few britsh survivng tanks and they had to surrender.
the italians lost 2 tanks and the germans one mobile AD. These losses could be quickly replenished with captured british equipment. we are still waiting for that tiger tank to arrive but fo the time beeing we have a churchill 3 which is the next best thing regarding armor. also awailabae now one sherman and a rebuild crusader whith a 37 mm aa gun and open turret since it was badly damaged from artillery fire and couldnt be kept. all in alla rtillery mainy immobilses the brith tanks but is very weak in inflecting any damage especially the 15 cm sig gun is a big dissapointment. the raf lost 2 planes to kg hauser flak but also amnaged to destroy one vehicle and immobilise the hq tank of the pz kompanie. luckily it could be repaired. other wise losses were almost nonexistant with one para cathcing a bullet in the shoulder he might have to come back to the frontlines since there is no good connection to the backward units for now. otherwise ammo is low but morale is still high. still an attack seems difficult so for now kg hauser is fortifying its positions. just sitting here and waitng cant lead to anything good though.... |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
i didnt put any pictures in but i finished the last battle also as i tireid to explain the allies didnt manage to create a breach on the lines they only manged to destroy 3 vehicles of mine and to clear some mines but it cost them lots of tanks and my 88s destrozed around 20 tanks each.
would be nice to get a tiger though to have a mobile 88 but so far no luck... |

Re: campaign scenario setup help
so far the mission is on time the ami has nothing that can stop the tigers. only air power is hurting KG hauser. So far after little more then 30 minuits the crossroads and the village guarding it are almost cleared. now a counterattack has started likcley to produce moch more destroyed american equipment. losses so far are a Flaktank destroyed and one immobilised by air attack. one truck shred to pieces by an air cobra machinegunning it. luckily the crew could escape.
also the bulgarian mortars and the 75 mm gun captured in france suffered from air attack. there was not so much cover available this time whic h led to very effective attack by allied air units. the stuckas and me 109 are hunting also taking theri share of halftracks but its a dangerous hunt since the amis have tons of aamgs. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
the us army was trashed profoundly but we also lost around 50 men and some a few mgs and tanks. But the battlefield was full of vehicles and 50 cals to build a nice AA vehicle for the tank platoons. also the tigers will be a very welcome addition to the force. now that we firmly hold the whole area what will come next? first we try to fortify the area against air attack.

Re: campaign scenario setup help
so after a long hard battle kg hausers troops managed to push the us rangers and infabtry of the ridge while destroying at least 2 companies of tanks in the process. the french legionaires also had to retreat as the 2 tigers moved to capture the vilage just behind the ridge.
the obejctive of the attack a road junction 2 km behind the ridge couldnt be taken according to the timetable but as night fell the slovak scouts reached it and found it empty.desrted by their defenders whiuch panicked as they saw the frontlines on the ridge crumbling. us air attack was heavy but valuable experience was gained regarding the use of smoke and cover to protect against strafing runs which was paid for dearly. still 80 % of the artillery as well as 90 % of the taks are in running order. infatry strength is at 80 %. heaviest losses have been taken by the anti air guners which lost 2 vehicles and almost a whole gun crew. the night provides cover and rest for the unit as they digg in at the ridge and newly conquered villages |

Re: campaign scenario setup help
So far so good as the alarm of paratroopers incoming sounded half og KG hauser set on to clear the area allocated to them. the rest stayed behinf to guard the units rest area and artillery.
most paras were taken prisoner as they landed with one panzer taken out by a para half squad that while sourrounded suddenly recovered its spirits and put a piat into a pz 3. still the city in the center were secured and the area around it are almost cleared. unfortunatly some local partisans mined the approach to the 2 bridges and now the advance has slowed down waiting for the mineclearing troops to come forward. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
1 hour into the operation both bridges have been crossed and most paratroopers are taken prisoner or well....
KG Hausers southern advance lead by the gebirgsjaeger company+ tanks is approaching the village were the uk hq is probably situated as well as the artillery base of the paras. The operation has shown how dangerous the piat can be which took out a tank and an apc who got to close. otherwise losses have been acceptable even though the bridge crossing in the south was quite difficult with one end of the bridge destroyed by artillery fire. |
Re: campaign scenario setup help
interesting scenario al in all defending against a paradrop. most difficult was the low visibilitz but the lack of at weapons and air attack made up for this problem and the tanks had an easy day as long as they stayed away form the uk paras more then 100 m.
some crazy rally from a routed sourrounded unit cost me a tank its important to keep the safety distance ALL the time hehe. now a panther will replace one of the older tanks and the romanians with ther me109 e will get some fw190 as they have been flying their messerschitts to bits by now. |

Re: campaign scenario setup help
After repelling the britihs paratrooper landing oberstleutnant Hauser gotinto a heated argument about the acons to take in the future which lead to him beeing send on leave due to "fatigue" now with the situtation critical hq has send KG hauser back into the battle to save the day.
Hauser sees the supply situation is dire and rhe allies have air superiority. he wont hold ths position for long but he will do all things possible to help his kameraden retreat savely. |
