If Rex has nothing against it, as usual, I would be honored. I do my best to find an interesting map and place players in an even position. It's very important for me to do this for what I think is the most important game on PBW.

Thanks a lot Slynky!

Rex, what kind of settings you want? I liked the settings I and Joachim had:
-One good starting planet
-No openers
-No talisman
-No ancient
-Geo's balance mod
-Other than that default KOTH

Comments?

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Asmala, please move me up a level. Fire has surrendered to me (turn 15!) and I have the victory.

For anyone who is curious it was an interesting game.
The settings were:
No Intel
No Ancient Race
No events
Large spiral arm
100,000 starting resources
Good home planet value
10 starting planets evenly spread
Low tech
5000 racial points.

We ended up meeting by turn 4 or so and so I started right away with building war ships. I built up before doing anything and we established a few borders and kept running into each other in different systems all over the place with our exploring colony ships. Eventually I build a fleet capable of sweeping 40 mines and so I took the adventure of going into one of his home systems to find less mines then that on his warp points and his small colonies. I didn't attack his homeworlds thinking he had more mines and more defenses then my fleet could handle but it turns out he did not. I had 2 fleets that were about to take action along with the first fleet in attacking Fire. In total I had over 75 war ships with the 3 fleets and Fire in turn hardly had any.

Fire had me worried has he had stealth armor before I could get scanners to see his ships but that advantage wasn't exploited enough to hurt me.

But all in all it was a good game.

I have a small problem, there has been a few days that Rambie has not taken his turn. I just wanted to see if there is some problem that he is having or something. Also at the same time I want to say sorry for missing days myself, when I started this game I did not know all the edicut (misspelled) that you are suposed to use (I do now though).

Congrats to Parabolize. My initial thoughts on the game was that it would be a good (and even) match and at over 100 turns, it sounds like it.

I've heard nothing from Mark. He did respond to the Messages I sent him, but then only played one turn about a month ago. After that, there's been nothing. I think I'm going to pester him a little bit more, and see what's going on here. Well, not very imaginitive (smile) but interesting enough. And a fair playing field. Now all we need is to hope is that the game doesn't put us right beside each other (like it does so many times).

Good luck, my friend!

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

I think I may like to try my hand at being ruthless. Can we specify particular settings for a game like no intel?

Alneyan October 31st, 2004 04:09 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Any settings can be overridden if both players agree; otherwise, the default settings apply (Small Spiral Arm, no ruins, and everything else as default if memory serves). Many players would agree to no intel, as I do not believe there are strong feelings on this particular setting (intelligence has the annoying tendency of simply helping the stronger economy, and nothing else).

If you do want to join KOTH now, feel free to make a proposal for settings; you would happen to play with myself for your first game, unless a game has just ended today (which seems dubious).

Captain Kwok October 31st, 2004 04:17 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Sure, I'll play against you but I can't start until Wednesday due to scholary pursuits. My only stipulation is no intel! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif

Alneyan October 31st, 2004 04:29 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

No worries about starting on Wednesday. My own wishes for settings are as follow:

- No Ancient trait (knowing the whole map and how many colonies the other player has isn't so fun)
- No Stellar Manipulation, or at least no Warp Opener/Closer.
- A Tesco map with set start points, or a handmade map if a mapmaker is available.

I think this is all for basic settings, but as usual, I remain open to wacky settings (*Knowing smirk at Slynky*). Hmm, a random setting generator might be an idea. Or perhaps not.

Slynky October 31st, 2004 06:38 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Oh, now I see how you're going to be buttwipe! I make a few winning maps for you with Lord Chane and I get cast aside like a used prostitute...sniff...sniff.

I don't do mods, as you know, but I do the Balanced map and I do spend time setting starting positions.

IF you'd like, I'd like to repay Kwok for his patience with me during his management of the great tourney.

So....???

Alneyan October 31st, 2004 06:59 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

I wasn't sure if you were available for map-making purposes Slynky, and didn't want to presume you would be willing to make yet another map for my games. Since it seems to be the case, I would certainly like one of your handmade maps; not having to worry about "oops, it is turn 4 and I just ran into my opponent. More exactly, I have glassed his homeworld" situations is definitively preferable.

As usual, I have no specific preference regarding the actual map (quadrant type, size and the like), so I will leave that into your hands Kwok. The same goes for the Balance mod (where all systems are the same in planet sizes and atmospheres). If you have particular wishes, do as you will. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Captain Kwok October 31st, 2004 07:21 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Ok Alneyan.

All your settings are fine with me. We could make it that you have to pick 2 racial traits using only 2000 points!

A random galaxy should be just fine.

Alneyan October 31st, 2004 07:48 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

By racial traits, do you mean the 1,500 point traits (Religious and the like), or any advanced trait, such as Advanced Storage or, let's be crazy, Emotionless?

If it is the former, I would like to remove the Talisman from the picture (though not the rest of the Religious trait), as it would be a fairly obvious choice otherwise.

Captain Kwok October 31st, 2004 10:35 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

My mistake, it's suppose to be two racial traits (i.e. temporal + crystalline etc) with 0 racial points to start. Anyway, we could just make an agreement to not use the talisman.

Alneyan November 1st, 2004 07:10 AM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Interesting. So we would have the following:

- 0 Racial point
- Two racial traits mandatory
- No Talisman
- No Warp Opener/Closer (or no Stellar Manipulation to begin with)
- No Ancient (though that one could be lifted. I see nothing wrong with paying 1,000 points for it when you are begging for points)

Two Last questions I had forgotten:
- Do you prefer an average planet, or a good planet to begin with? I tend to prefer a good planet start myself, if only to save headaches on construction rates for these colonizers.
- Do you intend to join the Ratings system? If so, would you like to make this game rated?

I have forgotten something in the game settings: no intelligence (well, not that kind of intelligence, but simply the whole spying part), as requested by Kwok.

My Empire has just been sent. And do not fret Kwok; while my name shares some characteristics with Asmala (A's are nice, aren't they?), I am not nearly as ruthless as he is. I promise.

Gandalph November 3rd, 2004 10:49 PM

Re: Are you tough enough to be the \"King of the Hi

Gozguy vs. Gandalph
Stardate 2408.2

Gozguy has finally surrendered after I finally glassed his Homeworld with 1 of my original fleets. I found his Homeworld through Crew Insurrection when I stole a ship that was over his Homeworld. By that time, I felt that I had the game in hand and sent both my original fleets directly towards his Homeworld. I also had 3 other fleets doing damage on other fronts.

Gozguy played a good game, and I thank you for that, but I was ready for his fighters and swarmed in as quickly as I could with trained fleets. I have been beaten by fighters before when my opponents fighter tech became too much for me too handle. I went for fast trained ships and intel here, and it worked this time.

Thanks for a good game Gozguy and move me up the hill.
