I'd rather be in theirs than ours given the choice.

Re: APC Development and related topics.

I hate to provide a post that's all milk and no meat, but I felt like sharing this funny 'APC development'. A friend of mine has a friend (Yes yes, one giant game of telephone. This one, I promise, is legit) in Ukraine that's been part of the TDF since the war began, and recently his unit managed to snag hold of a Russian T-64(?) tank that had a busted turret and a wonked up drivetrain. Since the turret was worthless and the drivetrain was too messed up to use as an ARV they went for the next best idea possible. They tore the turret off, mounted a sort of casemate to the ring with a DShK mount and are using it in a 'Kangaroo' role. That is to say it's rolling about with the M113s, humvees, and assorted other equipment in their unit and carrying infantry around. Apparently from what I've heard the Russians don't like it all that much.

It's amazing what happens on the battlefield when you're at war, huh?

Interesting

If it was Russian that's the first T-64 I have heard reported. it if was a 64 it is more likely Ukrainian BUT...... I have heard that Donetsk and Luhansk have some and that is where the fighting is mostly

My question is ( and I know you don't know .....)if the " drivetrain was too messed up" to use as a ARV how is it working as an APC ?

That said it really doesn't surprise me though it is unusual the Ukrainians have shown a real talent for improvisation.

They build companies worth it might be worth putting in the game. A photo would be interesting

T-54 converted into an improvised APC. Rebuilt/modified by the Israeli Army who quickly passed them on to the South Lebanon Christian militias. The turret is replaced by armour screens around the turret ring and armour shields are fitted to either side of drivers hatch. Known as the Tiran or T-54 APC, it has a five-person crew and carries an unknown number of troops

Found a photo.........

Both the Stryker M1126 APC/M1132 Stryker ESV are operational at this time. We do not know how many they actually have but they are there.

Brings back memories of the vehicles we had during Desert Storm.

Apx. 20xHMMWV with a mix of M2 HMGs and Mk19 AGLs, 1x5-ton truck for general cargo (mostly concertina wire to construct a POW compound), 1xCity bus outfitted as a mobile field kitchen, 1xT-55 to tow the bus when it got stuck, 2xSazuki Samurai "liberated" from the Iraqis, 2xKLR motorcycle (messengers).
