Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
First I put your pic in a frame, then I did a quick search for Sea Monkeys on the net and made these other pics for the sake of variety!

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Very nice! Thank you. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I will use this one. If anyone else wants to claim one of the other Sea-Monkey icons, go right ahead. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif [ February 06, 2003, 20:44: Message edited by: Sea-Monkey-Pirate ] |
Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Oooo. Very nice stuff, David. I just picked it out of the gallery today, but I wondered what my new "inside the brain" avatar would look like "shined up".
In case you're really bored, what I REALLY think would be cool is some M.C.Escher avatars. Reflective sphere, geometric shapes, impossible figures, etc. |
Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
First, let's satisfy your curiosity..
1044575127.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1044575127.gif ..now about M.C. Escher.. This self-portrait of his turned out ok, but all the 'drawings' I managed to try shrinking had way too much detail to survive the process. So I guess you're out of luck! 1044575142.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1044575142.gif Cheers! |

I did a little searching and came up with a couple of Eschers that may survive the shrinking. Let me know what you think: (Book cover) http://images.amazon.com/images/P/08...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Probably the most likely candidate, as the shapes are already fairly small. I like the sphere or the knots. Here's a better Version of the bottom knot: http://www.dmi.unict.it/~nicosia/images/escher.jpg (3 Spheres) http://www-rocq.inria.fr/i3d/i3d/peo...res.escher.gif If we pick just one--the left one would look cool, and I'll bet you'd still be able to recognize the center one, too. (Dewdrop on Leaf) http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~runnion/...es/dewdrop.jpg A close crop of the center drop would probably work out decently. (Close up of eyeball with skull) http://btr0xw.rz.uni-bayreuth.de/cja...p-escher10.htm Now THIS one would be VERY cool. You'd have to crop the center pretty close, but I bet if you cropped it right around the iris you could still see the center detail. |
Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Tried to do a bit myself with my amateur photoshop skills. How about this?
http://webpages.charter.net/tinabrad/escherAvatar.gif Found a colorization someone had done at www.worth1000.com then shrunk it down: http://webpages.charter.net/tinabrad/colorEscher.jpg http://webpages.charter.net/tinabrad/colorEscher2.jpg Which looks better? Full frame or eyelid over the frame? [ February 07, 2003, 06:14: Message edited by: MegaTrain ] |

This is for Pax, if he ever drops by and only if he likes it!

The b&w eye looks good, the colorized one seems to be missing the glare/reflection seen in the b&w one. I like both Versions, but would probably shrink the eye a bit more to fit it within the frame for the sake of consistancy. ..I'm going to try a few more escher stuff and see how it turns out. If any make it through the shrinking process, I'll post them. Cheers! ..Edit: Here are the results so far.. 1044621525.gif 1044621540.gif 1044621552.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1044621525.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1044621540.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1044621552.gif ..the dewdrop did not shrink well and neither did the twisted gear! Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
That's pretty cool. I'll have to give that sphere a try.
(testing, testing, 1,2,3). That knot looks pretty cool, too. It is still pretty recognizable as Escher. |
