Re: Online D&D Gaming

Then plan on part of the time figuring out how to use cleric outside of the Goddess' traditional influence, though I need to point out a cleric without their Diety is a d8 HP fighter. Spells, turning, insight all of that is based on their Deity do if possible can we resolve that first? PLEASE? Also can we come up with a standard way of dealing with the issue or we will bump around each time we handoff DMs.

Thanks

Rasorow (please note 1 a, 2 o )

PS yes I will stick with Ehlonna - it is just better that way...

PPS Of course, the forest god on this world could be nice and extend travel curtesies.

PPPS BTW How many post scripts were in Gandalf's letter to Frodo at Bree?? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Why don't we just stick with the same world and not change every time we have a different DM?

Cyclop September 20th, 2004 04:37 PM

Re: Online D&D Gam

I doubt we will be changing DM's and/or worlds any time soon. Randall requested taking over as DM and I don't mind a bit.I can easily see this campaign Lasting much longer than our past adventure, especially since he will introduce the world and set up a longer campaign. I skipped some of those details knowing that he would take over when the time was right.

My understanding (and maybe I missed something) is that we are meeting tomorrow but we will be divvying up treasure, and if Randallw can make it setting the scene.

As to memorizing spells, will the game start with the assumption that we have been in the world long enough to do so, or am I, to paraphrase someone else, going to have a 5d4+2 HP fighter?

Re: Online D&D Gam

Yes, meeting tomorrow but we need to keep Randall in mind for the goods to be divided (or you can tell us what items you would prefer Randall).

All levels, spells, HD, etc. will occur during transit. It is a 10 hour flight to the next world, so no meal will be served. Just the usual one sip of Coke and a small bag of 3d6 peanuts

Yes I can make it. I saw the doctor yesterday and had blood taken today, but won't need to see the doctor until after the session in 2 weeks.
Ok we need to discuss some things. First off I chose my world simply because I want to have the pleasure of developing it. As always though the enjoyment of the whole group is paramount, if we want to stay where we are until we are more familiar with the game then I don't mind. I have while planning my campaign had the persistent problem that if I finish up and return us to Cyclops world and he takes back control what will we do if I become DM again, transport the whole group back to my world?. We'll end up with the group being bounced from one world to the next like a.....bouncing group thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (which is bad as my world is different to the normal settings, its not like travelling from Oerth to Toril to Krynn). I can see that it may be annoying. Tomorrow when we meet to share the treasure I suggest we use some of the time to discuss where we want to go. As a DM I favour a free approach. I have the general plot worked out but like the idea of not setting everything in stone so that we can progress as things develop and as such havn't wasted time writing down everything. If it is preferable I'll place us somewhere on Oerth and change the evil parties and npcs to having Oerth allegiances not my own worlds.

Player: "aha, I killed the evil sorceror"
DM "...um, he survives having his head cut off." damn I need the sorceror to be the archvillain in the next 5 sessions

If the group feels they do not wish to make things complicated I can freely leave my missions on Oerth (Cyclops world). In the future we could start a new campaign using my world if we all agree.

I have considered the limitations of clerics not having their god, and did have a fix that can apply to Rasorow since he's only 3rd level, as well as including the problem as part of the campaign (I see problems like "how can my cleric cast spells?" as an oppurtunity to add a subplot). As for getting more spells, I wasn't going to drop the group into a fight (well maybe a little one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif) but get you introduced first.

Re: Online D&DeAmpD

We haven't even really seen much at all of the current campaign world. A mountain pass trade route could probably be incorporated into your campaign world Randallw without much effort. Just forget about the names of cities mentioned previously and replace them with cities in your world. Don't even need the teleporting. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

The problem is not so much switching worlds, as it is switching worlds a lot, as you mentioned... Might as well play Planescape or Spelljammer if that is going to happen. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Randallw, how are you going to handle weird, wacky house rules, such as ignoring the basic principles of the combat system (ie: the action system)?

Rasorow September 21st, 2004 01:29 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD

LOL I wondered Fryon how long it would take you to ask that question.

In all honesty, if speaking about gods who is to say that the gods/goddesses of Oerth are not the Gods/Goddesses of your world Randallw? It was really generic in the Deities presented. Your Deities could be the Deities of Oerth also. Or they could be the Old GODS, and the documented Gods could be the new Gods.

I appologize about being a little gunshy of the swtiching Gods thing but if played and DMed properly a cleric loses all powers if not in contact with their god. If that contact is tenous then the cleric is weakened. Confronting a Evil in their own sacred shrine is difficult enough (bonus to all evil critters minuses to good clerics and Pallys) without already suffering from Dietius Absentus.

We can discuss it tonight in detail and decide then.

You left too early!

Did we ever get to open that treasure chest in one of the middle rooms? I think it was where the orc captians and their mates were... We sort of glossed that room over in the hustle to move on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Cyclop September 22nd, 2004 08:36 AM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Ahh, the forgotten item. I assumed the small chest was left behind. No one opened it, since it was locked then it was forgotten about after the goblin came into the room.
I reviewed and re-reviewed the log and I couldn't find a statement saying the item was picked up and taken. It was rather large so it wouldn't fit into a pocket.
Let me know if anyone reads anything in the log that implies ownership of the item. View Log

The best I could find is Fyron searching the room for the Last time (right before leaving for dinner).

I could assume that Sulimo was holding it or kept it when he was searching for traps. Give me your feedback as I feel the item was left, due to the rush the characters seemed to be facing. At the best, someone has it (probably Sulimo) and it's still locked. I could picture Sulimo all cuddled up in a corner while the group is asleep, trying to pick the lock to see what goodies lie within. Looking over his shoulder seeing if anyone else is trying to claim the prize.

As a group we need to keep all our character actions in the ** Grull takes item and places it in back pack ** as well as OOC: All elves smell funny and I didn't draw those lines on the map. Sulimo is right when it comes to keeping the format, makes the DM's job slightly easier.

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Noone ever opened the small chest I am thinking of. I was in the process of doing skill checks when Cyclop decided to throw a goblin into the mix, which was not funny at all... Noone did anything with the chest afterwards, even though I said this:

Quote:

(3) Sulimo Mandrallorn: OOC: Time for dinner... make sure to search this place for items before heading out... esp. that chest that we never resolved... back in a bit

This would imply that Sulimo was still dealing with the chest...

Also, is Search the skill that is used for finding traps, or Spot?

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

"Search" skill if you are actively looking.
"Spot" if you are about to fall into or see a trap, enemy, item, etc.

I recall someone searching the small chest and not finding any traps but not being able to open the locked small chest. It actually has a wizards lock on it so a pick lock attempt will not work. I know the contents of the small chest were not given out since this is the item Thom was requesting and he had the ability to open it (or any wizard with the proper spell).

If Lae'nial can open it, your in business. If not I will send the content information to Wulf for later use.

I didn't think to get knock, but since a spell can counter itself - do you mean Arcane Lock? I couldn't find a Wizards Lock. I have arcane lock; could I use it to counter or override the one on the chest?

Fyron September 22nd, 2004 03:10 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Doesn't countering only work when the spell is being cast, not on an existing spell? You need dispel magic for that.

Cyclop September 22nd, 2004 03:19 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Correct, counter spell only on a caster not object. Only way to open it is with Dispel Magic since it was a magical lock (not the name of the spell that locked it, just the state).
Now the real question is ... are the contents worth more than the Dispel Magic Spell? Thom thinks so...

Fyron September 22nd, 2004 03:21 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Well Thom is in a differnt world/dimension and we can't get back to him... Not a very good way to end the adventure, getting cheated out of all our payment and all... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Isn't there a rule somewhere about overriding an old spell with a new spell?

Or we could go with Douglas's suggestion.

Cyclop September 22nd, 2004 03:45 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

People get cheated out of payments all the time ... but think of it another way, could the contents be worth more than the payment for the retrieval of the item? Most would think so unless the item has personal value.

I had dispel magic as the only way to open the item. Knock in my mind would open a arcane locked door and I feel could be applied to the lock of a small chest. This could be my Last decision as a DM to allow Knock to open the chest ...

narf poit chez BOOM September 22nd, 2004 03:56 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Knock suppresses an Arcane Lock locked lock for ten minutes.

^ Look! Three in sequence without breaking sentence structure!

Arcane lock is permanent.

douglas September 22nd, 2004 04:06 PM

Re: Online D&DeAmpD Gam

Knock targets allowed: "One door, box, or chest with an area of up to 10 sq. ft./level"

So, the only question is whether the chest is locked with something more powerful than the 2nd-level Arcane Lock spell.

Here's my new character. I've decided there's no need to extend ignorance of his race beyond the characters, so, he's an Elan Psion Kineticist who has taken a vow of poverty. The small amount of money he has is strictly reserved for beggars and other miscellaneous charitable works. As far as the other characters can tell, at least at first glance, he's just a poor human wanderer on his way to nowhere in particular. All his stuff - what little there is of it - looks a tad bit worn, but his crossbow is definitely in good condition.

I've found a miniature I'd like to use, but I can't get it to work in OpenRPG. http://rivendell.fortunecity.com/spe...ds/mage1a1.gif
