Well I'm a year older now.
What's with all the late August early September birthdays anyway?
I know more Virgins (virgos) than any other star sign.

Growltigga September 13th, 2002 05:25 PM

Re: OT: How old are you ?

Askan, the gestation period of the average human female is 9 months.

September is the ninth month of the gregorian Calendar and falls, 9 months after the Christan festival of Christmas.

If you are a Virgo (as I am), who have to come to terms with knowing that your existence is down to the fact that your mother got drunk round Christmas and, ahem, your dad GOT LUCKY

Askan Nightbringer September 13th, 2002 05:27 PM

Re: OT: How old are you ?

I always thought it might be New Years and not Christmas that is the explanation.
Christmas is always spent with my family...New years I always make descisions I regret (well thats if your mates find out..otherwise there is nothing to regret)

listen Askan, we do not want to know about you copping off with ugly birds on New Year's Eve.

I have to spend my life knowing that the so raison d'etre for my being is my folks engaging in drunken unprotected hedonistic alcohol fuelled cavorting!

That can really impair a man's self-image

I'm a male chemical engineer, 33, married, no kids, employed for the past 10 years at an aluminum factory. My wife says I play SE IV too much. (hey, I look just like everyone else here - is that the Twilight Zone theme playing in the background ?) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I started out playing AD&D back when I was 13 and played RPGs (and a few board wargames) until I graduated from college. Then I moved to a small town with NO gamers whatsoever. My best gaming buddy has been my computer ever since. Some of my favorite computer games are the X-Com series, MOO1, MOO2, Stars! and MOM (I also enjoy roguelike games - my favorite so far is Cthulhu Angband). I also play X-Wing Alliance, but only for research purposes (to find out how the various Star Wars craft perform in combat so I can pick their stats when I transport them over to other games). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Oh yes, my nickname is the name of the race I created for my first SE IV solo game - they look like the Fazrah but are a race of scientists, with Temporal and Organic technology.

Happy Birthday Trajan.

What this forum needs is a bit of software that keeps track of all the Users' birthdays. Then, each day when you log in it would tell you whose birthday it is (if anyone's) next to the bit where it tells you who is currently logged on. Or maybe have birthday ppl's names or avatars displayed differently or something...

I don't think there's enough of us to have a birthday every day of the years, but I should think we could manage at least one a week. The bar bills in the Cantina would soon be outrageously high from birthday parties...

I am 34, bearing down hard on 35 (April), and have spent the Last 10+ years in the Air Force. Computer programmer by trade; currently doing mostly web database stuff, and trying to avoid documentation. My first computer was a Trash-80 CoCo, complete with the chicklet keyboard and 16K o' memory. I had it hooked up to this sorry 19' TV my dad fished out of the local dump. Ah, those were the days... ...lapses into wistful memories...

I'm 53,a Viet Nam vet and am on disability. I was an electonic tech for 25 years. You name it I repaired it

Got my first computer in '93. Took about a year for me to get serious into gaming. Now I have between 150-200 games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif (many of the Sharpnels http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

Altho I've had SE4(and now the Gold) for a long time I'm just now starting to play it. (and getting my butt whipped I might add).

I live out in the boonies in the suburbs of beautiful downtown Hogeye,Ar. A town so poor our hog can only afford one eye. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hi, I'm 28, previously a computer game programmer (Sega's NHL 2K2 for the Dreamcast) but gone back to school because i can't get a job http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I taught myself how to program on the Atari 800 way back when I was 9. Been hooked on computers ever since, learning C in High School and recently enrolling in a Game Programming class at Palomar College.

My first strategy game was either Perfect General or Empire Deluxe, can't remember which was first, but I had both. I also can't remember where I found SEIV but I'm glad I did. I hope to take a crack at PBW as soon as the server is back up (Go Schmo!). I also play RTS's and FPS (shooter or sneaker (Go Garrett!)) but my fave is space flight sims (cut my teeth on Star Raiders).

I also enjoy roleplaying games, such as Champions and V:TM, but my favorite system is GURPS (although not really a RPG, I also love Car Wars)

Many Victories!

EDIT: Can't believe I left "strategy" misspelled for so long.

Am 41. Employed by USAF in Texas. I make programmers do documentation. Played board wargames since the 80's (Started with Tactics II?) and still think hex maps are neat. Played more SPI then Avalon Hill games. Wish I still had all of them (even the really bad ones). Subscribed to Strategy and Tactics for years till board wargaming and SPI gave way to pen and paper games. (Dungeon and Dragons, the original 3 pamphlet Version. Could not understand it at first. No map or counters, LOL http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif )

Played computerized Versions of D&D and board wargames for years after that along with D&D. Friend showed me SEIV when a new MOO? came out and read reviews that SEIV sounded better.

Still have my Everquest account but currently spend more time in SEIV.

Computer history: Started with TI-994a, still have it, then an Atari 400, an Atari 800, Commodore? 64, and then an Emerson 286 was my first Ibm Compatible.

Am 34 to be exact.
A doctor, graduated -99, now in my first year in the radiology department (will take 5+ years to become radiologist).
Have two kids so I only have time for turn based Strategy. Plays other stuff on occasionally LAN parties with friends.
Got my first computer around 83 I think. A Sinclair ZX-81, for you americans that would be a Timex.
Later on I imported a Amstrad CPC-486, went three years in school to become a computer repairman. Changed my mind, worked in a shop as an assistant for a year, made my military service and worked after that in the health care, thereby dooming myself to becoming a doctor.
Lives in Sweden with a wife who doesn't enjoy computers whatsoever, doesn't understand Sci-fi at all, but she puts up with my indulgances!
Got the game late spring and has played initially with friends and now PBW, don't play the AI.

I'm new player, got my SE4 only about month ago and I haven't yet played any game to the end. I have five PBW games going and only one has over 100 turns played so I don't have much experience. Perhaps I should have trained against computer a little before join PBW games but IMHO the games against computer aer very boring (I have started many games but none of them exceed 100 turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

The first computer I ever used was a Commodore pet. It had a small green monochrome screen and a tape drive. It took forever to load programs from the tape, but it was so cool! It came with some simple programs for word processing and math and so on, and it had a few cool games: Space Invaders, a racing game, a labyrinth monster game, and a mining game. You could write your own BASIC programs in it, too, but back then I didn't know how to program. (Much later, I first learned how to program in BASIC on the Apple IIE.)

No drives at all, you saved your "stuff" to a common tape on tape recorder and loaded it from the tape recoder.

The keyboard only typed in capitals.

IIRC, it came in 16K, 32K and 48K memory. I splurged big time for the 48K. And later, I did an upgrade to 64K.

I made so many modifications to it, that it took years before I bought my first Macintosh.

And the original cost was more than the price of most personal computers today!

But it was a marvel! I too learned to program in "Applesoft basic" which is a modified form of Basic.

I also did some machine language programming. It was all done directly and by hand without any of the aids which are available today.
