since the war was made big deal in this thread, I am glad to say C'tis and Man have made a treaty for peace.

Indeed - Man returned the lands taken from us in the war and offered a fair settlement. Peace has returned to the southwest! The gentle lizardfolk of C'tis plan to now return to basking in the sun on hot rocks, as is our wont. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Suggestion

I'd like to make a suggestion to all players in the Artifact Game to visit the dominions IRC channel. It makes the game more fun to chat and trash talk with other players. In addition it drastically speeds up and clarifies communication, which is always a good thing. So, everyone please make an attempt to just pop in and say hi see whats going on with the game (is the server down? whos at war with who? etc). If you like it, stick around and talk strat with people or maybe catch a blitz.

server: irc.gamesurge.net
channel: dominions

In particular I want to strongly suggest that all the new players in this game come to IRC regularly. You may not realize it but you are facing off against some of the top-tier dominions players. Come and talk with the other players and refine your strategies before you spend your hard earned gold on what could be a dead-end. Below is a quote from our very own QM on how to connect to IRC for those who dont know how. It assume the use of MIRC but there are many other clients if you prefer something else (I use trillian myself).

Quote:

An IRC channel is basicly a chat room. In the case of a dominions blitz game is used as a place to get organized and conduct diplomacy once the game starts. Getting set up for IRC is slightly involved, but it is easy to use. If you are interested, you can download software to connect to the channel here. Once you install and run it, to get to the dominions channel go under servers and select gamesurge, then connect to it. Once you are connected it will prompt you for a channel, click add and put in #dominions as the channel name. Then select it from the list of channels and your're in.

Re: Suggestion

I'll drop by the IRC channel today and say hello (and hopefully catch up on some politics!) Always a pleasure to chat with other strategy gaming fanatics. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ah, thanks! As expected I completely forgot. I will change to 48hr once the next turn is up, since I see that your turn is already in.

mIRC

Is it worth trying the Trillian Basic (as in, I don't want to pay $20 for mIRC)? I am almost completely clueless about IRC nowadays since the time you could easily hook up via some UNIX connection at school...

I'm actually surprised I'm still in the game, considering all the "big boys".

Ironhawk January 6th, 2006 06:26 PM

Re: mIRC

I used Trillian basic for ages, its fine. Tho I mentioned it only because I was already using it for all my IM needs: it supports MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM. Just so happens to support IRC as well, which is why it was convenient for me to use. If all you are looking for is an IRC client, MIRC might be the way to go? Up to you.

Wow, caine. That was really brave, sending your pretender into the Deathmatch. Certainly he won this time, but what happens next time now that everyone knows where to find him? Thats what always scares me away from sending my pretender.

Yeh - I figure that until someone gets ice devils (or maybe a Firbolg or wraith lord) or elemental royalty, I have a bona fide destroyer of armies. (After all, is not a God defined by the armies trampled underfoot? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif ) And by the next death match, I have a good chance of getting rid of the trident anyways.

Just have to fill his slots so no one can foist a cursed item on him. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Huntsman I will never change the time of a turn while it is in progress. I will only ever change it after a turn has generated, to avoid confusion of this manner http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Well this was an interesting game for me, although I think gatestone as a starting art is a bit overpowered. OTOH Ulm is not so strong, so maybe it just compensates this. Currently I'm trying to show what Ulm can do without gatestone in Frechdachs game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Anyway thanks for the good game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Gatestone is very powerful, yes. But Ulm is sooooooooo weak in the mid and late game that I felt it was only fair to give them a weapon to leverage thier early-game strength.

Thanks for playing Dimaz! Nice to hear that you went out with a bang http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Perhaps you will join us for the second artifact game, when this one is complete.
