Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

If there was any plan behind the repeated wishing for our chalice not hardly as many as Mictlan. :D
As we are on the topic how's Aegyr? It's emberassing but we really have no idea.

Another thing: It's turn 70. Could we switch to a 76h hosting interval?

Aegyr?

yeah I'll bump it up to 76 after this turn.

WAAAAAAAGH! a good turn. a skratti kills a tart, and i let the stolen skratti that mictlan's evil lord had corrupted rest in peace.

That will teach me to double check my scripts before sending a turn file. Stupid weapons of sharpness on PD....

Um, sorry to say it the skratti is still there.
I think you are thinking of the werewolf you killed? That was mine, seems our spells have cancelled each other out. :)

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Well, considering the discussion about "kingmaking", I wanted to ask here on how you feel about this.

I wasn't really intending to really stick it out in the long run, just trying to be a gameshaping power and then give the game up for "thematic" reasons (like Zukkekon doesn't care for belief of feeble mindless mortals and will leave the despoiled rest of this world to whoever has proven worthy and set out for the stars with his select followers with the items he has acquired).
R'lyeh is stronger than it's province count suggests. I have no idea if I could win in the end, if everyone played perfectly most likely not, but my actions will certainly have a big impact on who survives.

Also I think I have become to experienced for this game. When I joined it I had two real games finished, and one I practically gave up at turn 10. However now it's more like 5, and I don't really feel unsure about the battles anymore. I guess the battle for Mictlan is far from finished and the next turns might prove me terribly wrong, though the last turns have gone too smoothly for my liking.

That said I have several options.
I can play on like I planned or instead of giving up hand it to a sub.
I can try to line up a sub and let him take over the nation.
I could also play on and hand my nation over to someone who's been eliminated, when I go out.

I apologize to any player who feels hurt (though I wouldn't have played the turns differently, especially I had to take action against Mictlan if I was looking to stay in the game longer, with all that "accidentally" clashing of SCs and wishing for artifacts. No hard feeling from my side, it was all good in game action and I was feeling really cornered, hope you agree).

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Honestly Illuminated One, i feel like i am in a very similar boat, i wouldn't consider myself a noob anymore, but i don't think any of the players here really are anymore. you are in a very powerful position, but its not like it was unfairly won. stick it out, and lets just see how it goes.

Fakeymcfake September 19th, 2009 01:26 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I really didn't consider myself a "noob" going into this game. I certainly wasn't a vet by any means but I understood the basics of what to aim for as far as early/mid/late game as well as some more advanced tricks as Lama has seen. Anyhow, I still learned a lot in this game, as I'm sure we all have and I think that not one of us who has made it this far in the game could be reasonably considered a noob at this point.

What it comes down to Ill, is if you're bored with the game or don't think you've a reasonable chance of winning, then do something to make it interesting for you again. Themactically, have your pretender go nuts and set yourself up with crazy goals and grand, over-the-top plans of attack. Use this game to experiment without having to worry about winning or not, it'll give us all something unexpected to deal with.

Illuminated One September 19th, 2009 07:19 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Well, it's not that the grand picture is not very interesting in this game, it's very tense. I don't think I don't have a reasonable chance of winning, might be might be not, although I will have some catching up to do.
It's that I'm really annoyed of how much "menial work" I have to do if I want to take the chance. Really if 10% of the game is decision making and the rest is just making clams, watching over provinces, checking that the scripts/equipment I made are equal to those I envisioned...
Well, enough whining, I guess I can indeed do some crazy stuff and suicide over it, but that wouldn't be to far from what I originally envisioned.

Alpine Joe September 19th, 2009 08:00 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Yeah this game has convinced me that gem gens ruin games. I will be playing only non gem-gen games in the future, the micro is just too much.

Illuminated One September 19th, 2009 08:22 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Well, as the never dying advocate of gem gens I have to say that they are really not a micro problem for me - only that I'm forced to make as many as I can sucks hard.
The one battle against your archdevil took me 5 times as long to execute as all my clam stuff while the plan was laid out in 5 minutes.
And still I forget to not put my best caster into a spot where he is killed by friendly fire. :(

Illuminated One September 23rd, 2009 01:02 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Well, since there are so many players who don't like when someone throws the towel I'll try to line up a sub.

Have you tried fever fetishes? The definition of micro.

Hello everyone,

I'll get you set up after this turn hosts Executor, interested to see what you'll make out of this game.

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I always wanted to try LA R'lyeh, well I'll give hell to anyone that challenges me.
Will it be a problem that this is a noob game?

Illuminated One September 23rd, 2009 04:37 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Executor has offered to sub in.
Would be cool if you could get his email set in time for the new turn.

Good luck to all the other players.
It was a good game, but they are checking my medications better after the incident and I can't concentrate long enough for the turns.

Err ... I mean
Zukkekon will have changed his mind. About what you ask feeble mortals?
What 'about' he asks back? His old mind is weary. Nothing he had found on this world the starspawn called him upon that is worthy.
The mortals?
They see the world yet they don't perceive it. Faced with the truth, faced with the beauty, they have to deny it, to declare it invalid, void, to not recognize their twisted state, inventing values, rationalizing reasons, making justifications, unlogical, unintuitive, to explain away that they are merely the tools of powerhungry pretenders, and harly worthy of even that. Even with their limited sentience they multiplied to fast through disgusting rituals revolving around tentacles and orifices to be taken lightly.
The starspawn?
They at least understood the basics and used their tentacles correctly.
But they didn't grasp the plan. The littlest details he had to engrave into their mind. He couldn't take it any longer.
A new mind is what he needed. Would his new mind feel the same, act the same? Even he couldn't know, for he could only know his mind.
There might be great changes, there might be none. He didn't care for anything but sleep now.

I wouldn't see it as being that much of a problem. Everyone who is left has been using more advanced tactics and strats and if worse comes to worse we'll just gang up and dogpile you.

Anyhow, the email has been switched and I've delayed the game another 6 hours so that Utgard and Gath have a chance to get their turns in.

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

People, I think I'll have to drop this game, in fact, I'll probably have to Dominions all together, I'm the phase of moving and currently I practically have no internet access.
I have no idea if I'll settle in a week or a month, or if I'll have reliable internet access even when I finally move.

Sorry to bail right after taking the game but I have no other option. I really think R'lyeh could win this game.

Illuminated One September 28th, 2009 05:10 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Lol, that would be the 4th R'lyeh player then.
Zukkekon has many minds to be sure.

(edit: Nothing against you Executor, it's just funny.)

Fakeymcfake September 28th, 2009 07:26 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Alrighty then. Ill, you good to find yet another replacement or should I put up a thread? Either way I'll delay the game until we find a replacement.

P3D September 28th, 2009 10:13 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I have to say I lost all my interest in Dom3.
Just don't have the patience to spend hours to figure out how to make battle scripts effective or just plan forging a few turns ahead - and that's essentially what it needs to be a good player.

I got about zero fun from the games I played lately. :(
Just getting a turn done late and in a very short time.

Fakeymcfake September 28th, 2009 10:20 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Yeah, I kinda enjoy the early/mid game a bit more than the late. But I am enjoying this game and have figured out a lot of the mistakes I made earlier on because of it. If you want to find a replacement feel free to do so, you're in a strong enough position that you should be able to find someone fairly quick.

Frozen Lama September 29th, 2009 09:24 AM

i assume we will have a delay on the turn for P3D to get a sub right?

Illuminated One September 30th, 2009 02:33 AM

Ok, Pelthin has said he would sub.

Fakeymcfake September 30th, 2009 06:08 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Arg, totally didn't mean to stale on this turn. I got swept up into an impromptu birthday celebration and by the time I got home I was in no condition to do anything but sleep and the next day I had to be at school at 8am so there goes that.

Anyhow, it depends what P3D says, also I just switched the emails for R'lyeh.

P3D September 30th, 2009 06:40 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I do not want to submit any further turns.
There was one interest to sub but that's it.

Fakeymcfake September 30th, 2009 07:25 PM

you have an email address for this guy?

Fakeymcfake October 1st, 2009 10:43 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Alright, it appears that P3D has left without getting a replacement lined up so I guess I'll put out a posting for someone. Hopefully it'll get grabbed up quicklike.

Oh and I'm pretty much going to be incommunicado for the weekend, so I'm going to delay the game until monday.

Fakeymcfake October 4th, 2009 12:09 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Alright, still haven't gotten any interest on someone stepping in for Gath. I'll give it a couple more days then we might have set him to AI. Do we want to keep delaying the game or just proceed?

Frozen Lama October 4th, 2009 12:24 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

well squrrelloid told me to ask him monday, since he wasn't sure yesterday. lets delay the turn a little, and if no one materializes by tuesday, we can give up

Fakeymcfake October 4th, 2009 12:41 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Sounds good.

Fakeymcfake October 5th, 2009 11:23 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Any word on squrrelloid? Also delaying the game another 24 hours, if no word by then we'll proceed with Gath set to AI.

Frozen Lama October 6th, 2009 11:54 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

well squrreilloid said no, but to tell the truth, i REALLY don't want Gath to go AI. they are arguable the leading nation right now, and going AI is just horrible. Also, frankly it basically means Mari gets to double their gem income for free since they have all the armies in place to take the free provs the AI will give them. I think we need to just wait a little longer. put a thread out and bump it repeatedly, call in a favor or something. honestly, i think this game is basically ruined if Gath goes AI

Fakeymcfake October 7th, 2009 09:50 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Oh I agree with you Lama, however we might not have an option if we can't get a replacement. Anyhow I bumped the post I had for looking for a replacement so hopefully someone will respond, everyone else bug your buddies and see if you can get someone to fill in because I'm not really willing to continue to let it stale/have the hosting time delayed.

Frozen Lama October 9th, 2009 11:53 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I know you don't like it, but could we delay the turn a little to see if anyone responds to my Mists of time offer? if you didn't see it, i offered to sub in there if one of them would sub here.

Fakeymcfake October 12th, 2009 04:55 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Alright, it's staled another turn (and I staled too so the war hasn't gone anywhere) and I'll give it one more turn to see if anyone responds to Lama's offer. Otherwise, in the interests of proceeding with the game, I'll have to set Gath to AI.

Fakeymcfake October 13th, 2009 08:12 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Alright, we have Ferrosol picking up Gath, I've delayed hosting until friday to give him time to familiarize himself. Hopefully this will be the last of the interruptions.

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

I will be traveling without internet acess from Oct 19th-24th. i know the game has been delay way to much lately, but i'd like to ask to delay the turn for me since most likely i would only need a sub for 1 turn.

thanks

Fakeymcfake October 15th, 2009 05:10 PM

Re: Noob LA Game: Cataclysm - And Begin!

Sure. Just make sure to get your turn (whichever one we're on) in before the 19th and I'll delay the next one until you return.
