Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Does anyone know if I log in on another computer to check if the round started again, and it hansn't, do I have to play my turn again?

What I mean is when I log onto a different computer, it obviously doesn't have my saved moves on my other computer. So when I click to do my turn I have to start over.

But do I have to do this if I only check to see if it's my turn or not? As in just look at the starting screen with the flags, and not actually hit play turn?

I ask this because I check periodically on my laptop to see if the round played through, but if it hasn't and I previously played that turn on my desktop, I feel like I need to redo my turn because it will upload a turn in which I did nothing.

Does anyone know what I mean here?

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

you'll be okay as long as you delete your .2h file in the corresponding game file within your save game folder.

So if you're checking with a laptop after already submitted a turn on your desktop, make sure there's no .2h file inside the "newbswithlowselfesteem" file on your laptop before you connect to server.

For reference, .trn is the turn data while .2h is the move data (moves you made), which the server scans for to upload if it exist.

I understand, but don't know.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I'm not sure whether or not you'd have to redo your turn, but to avoid the confusion in the future Gandalf recently put up an excellent page here: http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/privategames.cgi

Just go to that page on your laptop and look up the game name.

Good luck trying to get in Abysia. I have at least 250 points of def there. And a lot more next turn. I will lose this game. But you will never defile the halls of Lanka! Got to love those ghouls.

Anybody willing to trade a +50 supplies item? That way I am set for a long time.

lwarmonger March 5th, 2011 05:58 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

If I had a +50 supplies item I would be using it to crush Ermor... I think this is going to have to be a team effort guys. Between the supply problems, the Prince of Death and the clouds of undead chaff, he's too tough for us to take down alone.

Soyweiser March 5th, 2011 06:13 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I stopped attacking Ermor actually. Blame Abysia. I tell him Ermor is next to my lands, and he declares war.

Ermor I hope you win! :D

lwarmonger March 5th, 2011 09:32 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Ermor is very thoroughly contained given everyone's hostility towards him... finishing him off is going to be a real bastard though.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Well, just hold him off until he burns all his freespawns. Put him in a box, if you will.

Fortunately, I don't need to actually attack to beat you. I may end up fighting ermor once I'm done with Lanka. I'll see.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Don't get me wrong, the only territory I can conceivably lose to him is territory that is already empty of people... it's just that the bulk of his spawning grounds have me crossing some very empty terrain, so I'm starving should I try and conquer it. Ryleh on the other hand can take those territories continually if they try..

Finalgenesis March 6th, 2011 03:16 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Fishies are people too, and they starve just like land lubbers.

I view Ermor as a land problem that should be taken care of by land nations, with water combat penalty sufficient barrier to Ermor we're happy to watch from the side while preaching out their nasty dominion.

Your continuing attempt to instigate events between us and Ermor has been well noted.

Admiral_Aorta March 6th, 2011 03:28 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Seems like the best things to use would be constructs, undead or demons that don't need to eat. Just hold the line until then I guess.

Soyweiser March 6th, 2011 03:49 AM

Well, you do understand that all my mages can also preach right? And if you start preaching at my cap I might have a few surprises for you left. All those lovely cap only flying demonbred.

Who needs to instigate? You attacked him before I did. I'm just trying to make sure that we crush a problem before it becomes a bigger problem.

I agree that undead are the way to go in this instance... however early on for Ulm it is leadership for them that is the crunch. Alone I can't do anything other than containment. With a partner or two, we could crush the undead hordes without too much difficulty.

You'd think he'd at least have the decency to post in this thread and explain why he's late all the time.

lwarmonger March 7th, 2011 12:58 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Especially since he is always the last one to take his turn... you'd think he'd have the courtesy to take his next one immediately afterwards so at least we'd only have to wait for him once every other turn instead of every single turn.

Finalgenesis March 7th, 2011 07:52 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I vote for reciprocation, swap him out for a sub now, otherwise he'll just play the line out to achieve maximum grief. We've given him every chance to elaborate but it's pretty clear what he's after at this point.

Etiquette to the polite is etiquette.
Etiquette to the guy ****ing with you is ****ing yourself.

Soyweiser March 7th, 2011 09:23 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Well swapping him out without talking to him is just rude. Did he reply to any message yet?

iRFNA March 7th, 2011 10:56 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

No, he hasn't replied to anything yet. He also hasn't been logging into the forums, but if he's griefing as finalgenesis suspects, then he could easily log out and view the forums anonymously.

Soyweiser March 7th, 2011 11:07 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I have send him a ingame message and a pm.

iRFNA March 7th, 2011 11:13 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

But are we willing to let him stale again? He's going to get eaten by me and pythium pretty quickly at this rate, which isn't really fair.

Soyweiser March 7th, 2011 11:15 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Did he stale the last few turns then? I thought he still played his turn, but always took at least the max amount of time. If he is staling, just find a sub.

iRFNA March 7th, 2011 11:21 AM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

He didn't stale the last turn, but he did stale the turn before. Looks like he's going to stale this turn.

We talked, a lot, he was even logged onto forum a few days back when we were politely asking for status(in thread and pm).

It's not possible to be polite to someone who is rude, it's called weakness.

We've made more then reasonable queries, the time for more talk is well past, it's time cure this infection before it gets worst.

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I've asked gandalf to kill the timer for now while I decide on the next course of action. I'm stuck in a limbo that could accurately be described as between soyweiser's and finalgenesis's opinions on the matter. I really hate to sub someone out when they are still "playing", but on the other hand it is possible he's simply griefing at this point. Or maybe he isn't griefing and this has just snowballed over time with us asking him to play and him avoiding the forums more and blah blah. I honestly can't tell which it is, but I do know (from experience tehe) that a good griefer never leaves the zone of plausible deniability.

Soyweiser March 7th, 2011 01:12 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Yeah, I'm also worried he is in the snowball category. Esp as a lot of dom3 players can be rather, serious about the game.

Play your turn! It is serious business!

iRFNA March 7th, 2011 01:23 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Ya, that's why I'm very reluctant to just sub him out, as in a way that'd possibly be victimizing him even more. It can suck when you plan out some strat for dom over a long period of time, with visions of strategic glory, the lamentations of women, etc. dancing through your head, then things fall apart on liftoff. Throw in the pressure on someone who is fairly new, and it makes them pull away more. Which adds more pressure. Then things start to get hostile, then he disappears for good.

Torgon, just play, it's fine!

bbz March 7th, 2011 01:37 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

check if he played his turn in the other game. If he has and has read your message then sub him out if he hadn't replied

Share the burden of the decision by going democratic; put it up to a vote. My vote is to find a sub and get on with the game. If Torgon wants to clear his name, he can do so in another game.

The Crippled what? Is this some sort of slang for your period?

Hate to be a jerk about it, but waiting drives me crazy. I understand things in real life making you take a long turn every now and then, but this is too much for me. I vote to replace.

That one was a bit of a stretch

My vote is to wait. I get the feeling that's a bit unpopular, I know, but I don't want to turn a newbie game into a mob to chase out a potentially put-upon newb as well. In any case, if he doesn't have the courtesy to respond to PMs or ingame message or something in the near future, though, that's another thing entirely.

Admiral_Aorta March 7th, 2011 02:56 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

I'm inclined to wait, even though I'd like to get on with the game. Torgon, if you're reading this, then post here! Do something!

Well, you'd be eating him regardless of any alliances, now wouldn't you?

Peacekeeper March 7th, 2011 03:47 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

id be eating him exclusively with one.

bbz March 7th, 2011 05:18 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

So, how long do we wait for?

Hylobius March 7th, 2011 06:11 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

If he is consistently staling and not responding to messages then find a sub. If he has only missed a turn or two and usually waits until the deadline then he should stay in.

iRFNA March 7th, 2011 06:33 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

That's just it, this would have been his second stale. The majority is getting quite impatient though, for good reason. I'll give him a few more hours then ask for a sub, in my limited experience a sub usually materializes quite quickly.

Thanatus del Dragos March 8th, 2011 04:22 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Can you just set him to AI?

bbz March 8th, 2011 04:26 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

If he is about to be eaten anyways, or just let some of our game use it so that it can damage hes neighbours mostly(so that they can pay for their territories)

Samhain March 8th, 2011 05:27 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

Considering that it is a giant nation in the early game with little territory and few options I doubt it would make much of a difference if you just set him to AI.

iRFNA March 8th, 2011 05:46 PM

Re: NewbsWithLowSelfEsteem - Year 2: Attack of the Dead

If the majority wants it. I think he's pretty badly broken, but pythium would know better than I do.
