Latest update:

The meeting between the phone company tech and DSL tech at the CO that was supposed to occur today did not occur today. Now it is supposed to occur tommorow afternoon.

On the bright side, I got a new harddrive today thanks to a generous donation. I will be making a duplicate of the PBW harddrive and sending it to another generous soul. This should allow us to set up a backup PBW site in a different location. If all goes well we will have the backup site up and running by this weekend. That is assuming that the DSL is not up and running tommorow afternoon.

So PBW hopefully will be back up tomorow, or this weekend.

Finally some good news. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

The DSL is back up and running. We are able to connect to the internet. You will find you still cannot connect to PBW. The reason for this is that during the initial troubleshooting one of the things they had me do was default the router configuration. So when I get home this evening I have to set that back up. But once that is done PBW should be back up.

So you all have a few more hours to say your goodbyes to your wife and kids before returning to the depths of your addiction. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

If they stutter and pause during the explanation, you can be sure it was because of something simple they forgot to check some other time... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

And they didn't check the simple things because it was easier to blame the guys from the other company. Therefore you needed a meeting of both of them just to make sure they *really* started checking everything.

Okay. Server is back Online. Everyone is free to use it now. A couple things though:

RTC may not work. I have to check that out. I am not sure the router is configured right for that yet. Please let me know if you can get it to work.

If you use the graphic UI some of the buttons wont work right. You will et the PBW down screen in the window. This is because we used absolute links instead of relative links in some places. That will clear up once teh DNS is set back to the server instead of the PBW down page.

Auto turns will remain off for indefinetly. I will let you know when they are gonna be turned back on. Game owners can force turns if they want and turns will run if all .plr files are uploaded.

Please report any other issues that you find.

Thanks Geo for all your hard work!

For those of us who ran some turns during the PBW hiatus....

I believe we should not run our final turn manually and then upload the .gam, .log and .cmb files as a zip file to the site.

At any rate, I just did this and my players all received email from the site with the newly uploaded files. I test downloaded my turn, and it looks correct.

If you only upload the .gam file directly, your players will not be able to view the current round's combat, so a .zip is better.

Question: My game turn is listed on the site as 2408.4, but the true game is now at 2408.7 because I ran three turns manually. How do I correct this?

Thanks,
Merry

Congrats to Geo, you're back in business. I'm not gonna clutter up the PBW today, as I'm sure everyone's clamoring to get to their turns. Re: PBW Down? - Back up!

PBW Hosts: Games can be incremented by repeatedly uploading the current turn until it is right. However, your players would probably not like it if they get their mail box overflowing with redundant attachments.

I'm telling my players to just cope with the turn counter off. I'd rather see Geo do something more important. Of course, my group only did 4 turns or so. We waited two weeks before we took up the game off line. It was nice to have a break during the summer. Can we plan on one of these outages next summer? A little advanced warning would be nice so we can plan vacations around it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

It appears the DNS has propagated back to the server now. You should be getting the intro from the server rather then the alternate site now. The forums should also be working properly again on the graphic side.

Anybody had a chance to try RTC yet? Is it working for you?

The turn in 2024 hadn't executed when the server went down (or Geoschmo has already fixed it so it looks like it hadn't executed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ) so there's no problem with that.
