so being new I only know figured out the concept of registering at the websited to claim my spot on the server. So having created an account at mosehansen I find that pythium is claimed by a user named jottpe. I have played all the turns for pythium so ... I just found it odd is all.

This game is being hosted by a server provided by Esben Mosehansen, which includes a nifty web front end that Esben wrote to specifically support Dom2 PBW. On that front end, when you look at our game, your position shows up as "anonymous". Here's what you do to claim the position on the mosehansen server:

1) register on mosehansen at: https://www.mosehansen.dk/cgi-bin/dom2.pl
2) Then go to: https://www.mosehansen.dk/cgi-bin/do...erun_Pirates_2
3) You'll see your nation listed as Anonymous, check the "That's me" box.

Probably no harm is being done, but that can likely be changed manually, if Catquiet asks Esben to do so.

Umm. Is it just me, or does the C'tis placement on this map really bite? I've got a Son of the Sun with a huge army and a fortress right next to me. Just south of me Orion and his knights hold a province with a few hundred troops, and I can't even go to sea since there is another SC out there. I can defend myself, so don't go wailing on me because of this post, but my capitol production bites because of this. Is it the same for all the other nations?

Re: MP Game - Faerun Pirates

Linglich, the problem here is that the game was by the looks of it started on an older Version of the map, which had several problems.

The C'tis starting location is one of those, when I made the map I just slapped them in Mulhorand (thematically most appropriate) without checking the number of neighbors. One of your problems can be solved if you just toss a scout into the City of Shadows (if there is a castle there, that is) and the Horus-Ra and the other troops will just retreat into the fortified city, leaving you in control of the province and its resources and income. If the game was started with the revised map file, there is no castle and you're out of luck.

If this is indeed the first map file Version, Abysia is another nation that suffers from a sucky start location (Calimshan), if therevised, they're in Thay. I'm playing Vanheim, and no kidding about the comment that the start location is not good! I noticed that all the neighbor assignments in my start location are screwed up and hence my start sucks worm-infested donkey balls, but them's the lumps and I'm glad it's me getting them.

There are also numerous other problems, mostly just incorrect or missing neighbor assignments all over the map.

In any case, next week there will be a complete update of both Faerun maps, the targe files have had province borders added, and consequently movement options will be much clearer. Adding them has also allowed me to eliminate the incorrect and/or illogical neighbor assignments that are rife throughout the map. C'tis start location has also changed one province southward, so that they will have some resources available and don't have to contend with Horus-Ra right off the bat. Other changes include removal of most ready castles from indie provinces to prevent the kind of abuse that was possible for e.g. C'tis (taking income control of a pop 50000 province with a scout right off the bat, for example).

Actually, I would call that an exploit, and I was intending to ask about that. I've not done that on the location near me - do other players think that's a reasonable tactic to employ?

I haven't done it myself - seems cheesy to do, at least / especially with a scout.

Sending in a proper army is imo different.

Re: MP Game - Faerun Pirates

I think it's cheesy to do, which is why I've removed most of the castles from the map in the revisions. I'm actually rather surprised that we're using the old map file, since there has already been one revision which did just that and addressed a few other problems as well.

That said, I used the scout tactic on the two indie castles in the Moonshaes (for a while, I've already conquered one and breaking down the gate of the other), but what with litle neighbors, atrocious movement possibilities (even with Vanheim) due to [censored] up neighboring and most provinces being <6000 pop, it's not as if there is going to be any impact on the game. Callidyrr and Corwell are hardly Waterdeep or The City of Shadows (which are both pop 50000), and I'm dead Last in almost all graphs. I can fend Atlantis off if they try anything now, but by the time I get off the islands, everyone else will probably be so far ahead of me that I'll get crushed like a bug despite taking advantage of the exploits on the Moonshaes.

I wouldn't do the City of Shadows exploit, that's just so...cheating. I have some honor in games after all.

Thufir, if you're talking about the Great Rift, I think that had a population of around 15000 or therebouts, so it could be considered cheating. it's not as if the place is overly tough to take over, except you'll need more men than usual to break the gates down (Guardians of Ulm in defense). It's no Hellgate Keep for sure.
